Hello, and welcome to the forge! In this week's video I forge an EDC(everyday carry) harpoon point hunter from a piece of 5160 and finish it off with a set of gorgeous acrylic scales from Texas Knife Supply. I hope this video inspires you to go out to the shop and create something awesome. I appreciate you for watching.

Beautiful knife and I really enjoy watching you wordlessly forging it out. Your channel is becoming one of my ASMR favorites along with Texas Road Agent Leatherworks.

That is one awesome looking knife . In my opinion the hammerd finish on a legit hand made blade is where its at. Absolutely gorgeous. You put a beautiful edge on her 👍👍

Very nice! Whenever I use brittle material (like mammoth tooth), I always glue a liner onto both sides before drilling. That prevents blow outs.
@Mysticmountainforge
@Mysticmountainforge 2 месяца назад
Great tip! I will do that on future builds using this material. I appreciate you watching.

I'm dreading it, but I do have a large evaporative cooler that is in the back where the shade is blowing through my shop, and in the summer, I open the front up even then it gets pretty warm. I appreciate you watching.

If that handle material is brittle, it doesn't make sense to use as it can easily break! Although it is nice looking! 🤔😱

It's not a knife that I would want to drop that's the truth, it sure is pretty material though. I appreciate you watching.

Epoxy is a lot tougher than you give it credit for. Nearly all knives use the material in some capacity.

can also use painters tape to stop the chipping or sacrificial glue liners, two drops of super glue, to it as well ahead of time which will stop it too, then pop them off

You are a very skilled blacksmith, that's for sure. Keep up the work, my man. I do have a question, where do you get your steel?
@Mysticmountainforge
@Mysticmountainforge 2 месяца назад
Thanks! I appreciate you watching! I got several stacks of brand new leaf springs wholesale awhile back so I have been using them for quite awhile, I also purchase a lot of my steel like 1095 and 1084 from Pops knife supply, and Jantz Knife Supply.

Your anvil has a really high pitched ring that comes through the audio. Ever thought about using a magnet to dampen it? Great looking knife as usual!

As a fellow Okie, amateur knife maker (not blacksmith) and leather worker, I would always regret not having one of your knives. I know you are not taking any custom orders. Do you have any knives for sale at this time?
@Mysticmountainforge
@Mysticmountainforge Месяц назад
I'm hoping to have some ready for fall, but I have been considering making a few up before hand and posting them for sale. I appreciate you watching.

8:25 Can you explain what that tool does for the people that aren't in the knife making but still like watching it. Every time you show it I look to see if there's anything I can see it doing but i'm using my cell phone so it's a tiny screen.

No problem! It is called a height gauge, you can find it at www.grizzly.com/products/igaging-0-6-digital-fractional-height-gauge/t21576 I use it to scribe a center line that helps me keep my edge straight as I grind in my bevels. I appreciate you watching.

How much $$ for a knife like that with antler grip? Would it be good for deer skinning? Will that grip material break if knife is dropped? Thanks
@Mysticmountainforge
@Mysticmountainforge 2 месяца назад
I am currently not taking any custom orders at the moment, This knife style works well for skinning, This handle material would be fragile, I would go with something more robust for a working knife, like antler, wood, or G10. For a knife like this with an elk antler handle I charge 175 with a leather sheath. I appreciate you watching.

The arbors for your buffing wheel did you just buy some all thread or is there a specific thing you purchased? How fast do you run them too. I want to do the same with my drill press.
@Mysticmountainforge
@Mysticmountainforge 2 месяца назад
I just bought some regular long bolts, put a washer, then the buffing wheel, added another washer then the nuts. As for the rpm i'm not sure, I have a vfd on my milling machine but the readout display doesn't show up, I would think it is in the area of 2500-3000 rpm. I appreciate you watching.
