A Look at the Knight 2000 Voice Car by Kenner Toys 1983. From the TV Series Knight Rider 1982 - 1986, a Toy For Children to Recreate the Adventures of Michael Knight and K.I.T.T.
Wait, it cost HOW much in 1983?! And my parents STILL bought it for 5-year old me for Christmas, even though we were dirt poor???? Thanks, mom and dad, for your sacrifice that year. Talking KITT was my favorite childhood toy 😭😭😭
I was a big fan of Knight Rider and when I saw this at the toy store, I flipped. They sold out for Christmas 83-84 which was crazy because they were so expensive. I finally got one for my birthday and played with it to death, I lost one of the doors and the voice mechanism stopped working. I wished I’d kept it, coolest toy I’d ever got at that time.
I had one of these as a kid, and kept it in pristine condition. Then, at age 14 I sold it at a garage sale for a few bucks. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRG.
I had this as well, it was my holy grail back then. For being a toy designed for children, the car itself was amazingly detailed and accurate, even now looking at it with more discerning eyes as an adult with more serious collectible experience it still looks fantastic.
I had this toy. I loved it. I got it for Christmas, and I flipped out. The doors could come off and they were the first thing that got lost, but other then that. I loved this toy.
Very cool masterpiece 👍😊 , those good old days from the beautiful time in the 1980s are unforgettable indeed, especially for us as our generation grew up while watching such lovely series on Tv in the absence of internet, satellites, dvds and mobile phones... My dad had a black 1982 Datsun 280zx with a gold line during that time and I had always imagined myself sitting on the back seat of Kitt while riding in it 😊
I had that toy. I didn't put the 'KNIGHT 2000' stickers on the side because it wasn't accurate to the way the car looked on show. I always hated when toys based on movies/shows added extra decals with branding that wasn't accurate to the way stuff looked on the show/movie.
Did you ever send away for The K.I.T.T. Kit? I thought, for some stupid, little kid reason that they would send the parts too. Only blueprints, though.
This toy was one of my childhood dreams as a child. Every prick that I knew that had one would never let me touch it. This, Optimus prime, g.i.joe killer w.h.a.l.e hovercraft, and full size voltron were the toys I would never get as a child!!! Got them all now at a 500% markup!!
My cousin had the Whale and the kid down the road had the USS Flag. I did have an Optimus Prime, though. Was never much on Voltron. The robot was cool (the lion version) The thing that threw me off on the whole thing was that it was an Asian cartoon dubbed with American voices and the animation didn't line up. That annoyed me as a kid and caused my dislike.
Full-size Voltron was EXPENSIVE! My mother only got me 2 of the parts -- I think an arm and a leg. Never got the rest, so it all defeated its own purpose. I can't remember what year I got the Jabba the Hutt Playset or Castle Grayskull... but I remember Michael Knight showed up with KITT in Eternia a few times to battle He-Man. I don't remember who ended up in The Sarlacc Pit though.
@@lt.danicecream If you go back and look a little closer, He-Man was gay propaganda from Japan. A character named Fisto and another one named Ram Man? C'mon! Smurfs were Communist propaganda. They've been trying to destroy America for a long time... and it looks like they've suceeded.
Aww man. The nostalgia! I got this for Christmas, in 83' I think. Was a neat toy but it had its issues. The voice box on mine broke within six months and I think the windshield was also warped just like yours. One of the worst, in my personal opinion, was actually the Knight 2000 stickers on the doors. They really detracted from the image of the television K.I.T.T. and if I'd had to do it all over again I would have taken mine off immediately. Sadly, I grew up and the car was sold. Now I wish I'd saved it. --- Thanks for the video, John.
Well that is true. My view is that the car was such an icon, with it being nearly all black and having the red scanner eye, that it didn't need to be identified. Anyone in the U.S. born before 1978 knew that car during the 80's. Removing those stickers today would be seen as devaluing the toy. I just see it as respecting the source material. - Regardless of my opinion, I do respect your view on it and I would never recommend anyone remove those stickers today.
I got this talking KITT and Michael Knight figure back around 1985 or 1986. It was one of my favorite toys. I have no clue what happened to my original one. I don't remember ever getting rid of it. Fortunately, I found another one with the Knight figure a couple of years ago and have it in my collection now.
@Robert Anthony I gotcha buddy I have the ds model the Kenner one is good as well I collect model cars I have plastic ones as well but don’t build them anymore they have gone up in price anyways cheers buddy have a nice night 😎😎😎
I bought one on ebay in rough shape im planning on restoring it so far I got Kitts voice box to work its full of scratches I will figure a way to revive it like many people here on the comments I could never convince my parents into purchasing this toy at the time when I was 11 in 1983 but now I got one many years later it takes me down memory lane especially when the show was new and revelant
I didn't have the voice car when I was little but I had the whipshifter knight 2000 car from kenner..i got it for Christmas back in 1985 when i was eight years old..tore it up a year later but I made up for it back in 2017, I bought me quite a few of them off EBay the past three years 😊😊😊
It would have been perfect without the “Knight 2000” on the doors. But the greatest month of my childhood was when my best friend let me borrow his KITT for that time. My parents never had that much laying around for one of their six kids.
I have to agree with you that G.I.Joe and HeMan had my attention also. But now I really see what I missed out on. Great toy and it comes with it's very own Hoff!
I wanted this toy for Christmas that year and it was sold out ended up getting it for my birthday months later and for years I played with it til it fell apart.
i form Rocky Mount north Carolina I have the knight 2000 myself the voice box feature doesn't work any bit it's great collector piece for any knight rider fan . like me and fans all around the world
this is great! there is a gentleman at a local flea market selling this in box (box is damaged) for 90 dollars. wasn't sure if that is a good price or too much. I love knight rider and would love to get this
BrendanTheGent Good price considering the ridiculous price it's going for at ebay. In the box and brand new? Hope you picked it up. Would've been a steal.
I got this as a Christmas present when I was only 5. I loved it. Unfortunately I left it in the floor and my dad stepped on it in the middle of the night. I've been wanting to purchase one but hate to pay the Ebay prices.
I took mine apart to see how it talked. There's a little tape recorder in it. Theoretically you could record over with your own responses, hmmm I wonder if anyones done that? "Michael I love the way you push my buttons" Michael I detect an unusal oder in here, did you fart? etc.
Some small nitpicks are the doors writing knight 2000 as if we didn't knew which car is this, and the other that they didn't include light up feature for the scanner in kitt! Other than that i believe it was the ultimate kitt toy car back in the day when the knight series shined! Playmobil also made a pretty nice detailed kitt i believe, without the writings on the doors and a light up scanner! 😉 Nice review thanks for sharing,if that was released in greece back in the day would made the best sales i believe because in greece knight rider was really big in my region!
I didnt know this existed. Hard to believe something that detailed existed at that time. Its a shame they ruined it with that horrible captions on both doors.
Just having this great vehicle is awesome. Wouldn't it have been great if Kenner produced the Tractor Trailer for KITT to ride into. Thanks for watching.
amigo aonde voce consegui comprar esse modelo gostaria de saber aonde voce comprou por favor sou colecionador gostaria de adiquirir um modelo desse do kitt 🇧🇷😄👍
Hi, can you tell me how to open the battery compartment for Kitt? I've tried with coins and all I'm getting is leaving faint scratches on the slot and the plastic seems to go almost white-ish on the spot it would open up from the hinges. I'm scared I'm gonna break it. I just found one of these at an antique show and the guy selling it was the owner all this time and he said he too couldn't get the voice thing to work. I'd like to know truthfully first by putting a battery into it. It still had the box somewhat worn out, box innards and instructions in a plastic bag all for $60. Micheal Knight figure was in prestine condition too. Thanks.
I also have a brand new in box never played with knight rider car but I am the original owner since I was 13 years old. I only displayed mine on a shelf its whole life I still have all the paper work and bag and cardboard that holds kit in place in the box , I give the box a very good condition rating but i purchased it that way. My Kitt is mint condition no scratches anywhere, the wheels never touched the ground . Looks as it did in 1983 , never used the voice feature . I will never part with it ....and mine being brand new worth a bit I'm sure.
I got this toy and I was at my grandparents house with my cousins and I thought it was like show and picked up a brick and threw it on top of car and shattered it into pieces I started crying and my dad had to go to store to buy me new one he wasn't that happy
I had one but sadly he met a sad end, I jumped him off a ram on to some rocks and forgot to bring him inside and a a rock slide happened when he was still outside. My dad the next day bough more rock. When I dug him out he looked like the juggernaut attacked him.
It says different sentences from the real one. But body and rims proportions are much better on this one than in the 1/18 Hot Wheels Elite. Obviously IMHO and with all due respect.
Derwin777> when the kenner toy company came out with the knight 2000 toy cars back in 1983 the knight 2000 across the sides of the doors was the trademark back then..the only one back then that didn't have that across the sides of the doors was the mpc plastic model kit of the knight industries two thousand(k.i.t.t.). 😊😊
I feel bad for Edward Mulhare and Patricia Mcpherson. Michael (David) and K.I.T.T. (William Daniels) got all the attention. There were toy K.I.T.T. cars and Michael Knight figures but I don't think there were ever any of Devon and Bonnie. It's difficult to believe no one tried to sell FLAG Mobile Unit playsets with Devon and Bonnie. They deserved a bit more respect due to their contribution to the show and sci-fi in general.
Yes a FLAG Mobile Unit playset would have been great. I wonder though how much of a market there would have been for those figures. What about a Goliath? Now that would have been awesome.
