One of the problems this show had was that they gave Kitt too many abilities (basically overpowering him). Shame too, because I watched the pilot movie for the sequel series and liked what I saw, only for the series itself to be nothing like it.

KITT was a modified '83 Trans Am T-top… At least, when the series began. Its front bumper, rear end, and most of its interior were customized to make it look more unique.

This video alone justifies about 93% of what went _wrong_ with that TV series... the product placement alone is enough to make me choke.

I don't understand why people hate the idea of KITT being able to turn into different vehicles. If they could have done so in the original series they probably would have, and then everyone would have been all for the idea.

I really hate the idea of KITT transforming, but at least they pulled it off well. The transformations are cool, well-animated, and surprisingly believable for 2008 CGI.

Continuing from last post: point is, like everything else, you have to make it a bit better than the original. You can keep a few familiar things, but I liked the transforming effect.

You are totally right with the description. The audience who watched the show in the 80's are pretty old now and they wanted something more feasible, it really looks like a Hot Wheels commercial. The first episode was really good, nothing fancy but a good A.I. and some really strong bodywork which is mostly feasible. Even changing colors is not bad, we have that technology. But when they introduced Turbo Boost and attack mode crap, it really sucked and went back to a nice TV show. Too bad cause the self driving cars are almost here, and the show would have anticipated that so well :)

I liked the 2008 series but the original was way better KITT had more personality this KITT has a transformation ability that stretches suspension of disbelief to a whole new level and KARR was underwhelming as a supposed to be final villain of the first season

The transformations were my main bugbear of the show, at least with the original K.I.T.T was kinda plausible (can't believe I'm saying this about an 80s show), a supercar that did stuff, the 2008 show was just something that played the nostalgia of the classic show. I did like the theme remix though and Justin Breuning was a good choice to play the 'Knight Rider', a Hasselhoff/Casper Van Dien Hybrid...

If only I had a car that could turn into a variety of things. Going off road: switch into a truck mode, on a joyride: switch into race car mode, need to drive my family around: switch into SUV mode, want something classic: switch into an older model, and maybe if I work for the police force: switch to pursuit mode.

The episode where they go "old school" and KITT turns into the 1967 Mustang would have been a great opportunity to turn into the Trans Am model but we all know that 15-seconds of a 30-year old car would overshadow the whole season and draw way too much attention away from Ford's wonder car. I hear that's why Ford was hesitant about a second season. Hasselhoff was planning to come back in the Devon role and would go into the field in some episodes with the real KITT!
