Knipex Cobolt Review 

I happen to own one of these, bought it a couple of years ago. There's a self-opening variant available for only like $4 more. I highly suggest buying that one if you're planning on doing lots of cutting. For those complaining about shearing: yes, it's a bolt cutter, we get it. Side cutters can't slice through almost 4mm of spring steel with ease, this can.

I agree, this is a great tool. One thing to pay attention to during use is to make sure not to twist while cutting as this may chip the cutting edge. Could be that my first pair was defective, but I'm very careful now not to make any twisting motion at all. I think this weakness is a bit of a drawback to the tool since sometimes you need to use it in tight conditions where it's really tough to get a solid, square grip on what you're cutting, but in spite of this weakness, it's still the best tool out there for what it does.

The mechanism at work here is called compound leverage. The central pivot applies force through the cutting edge pivots so the force is multiplied twice. The consequence is more movement at the handles for a small movement at the cutting edges. Not rocket science just basic physics but the execution makes all the difference.

I only have room in my service bag for one pair of daily use cutters. What do you suggest? Knipex cobolt cutters or angled traditional side cutters?
