Unlike a standard pair of pliers, the Knipex Pliers Wrench has a totally unique design that has far more useful applications in the real world.
The jaws are perfectly smooth & will not damage/mar/indent the surface of the fastener that you are working on (such as brass, chrome, or plastics). The unique camming action allows the jaws to close perfectly evenly & the pressure is the same the entire way across....this really helps preventing slippage or rounding of corners.
Another great feature is the ratcheting action that occurs by slightly loosening your grip on them, rotating the pliers, and reapplying pressure. There is no need to physically remove & reposition the pliers in order to turn a fastener effectively.
Check out the video to see them in action!
Thanks for watching!

Even if the fastener is tight those pliers will work just fine. I've used my 300mm set up to 100ft pounds, I know for sure. They didn't even flinch. I also have used the 250mm and 300mm as a squeeze for flush rivets on aircraft. These are the only tools I tell everyone that if they are an adult they need.

Thanks for this great video! I just recently got a pair and your reviews were some of the most informative and influential. I haven't used it much yet but it's a big upgrade over an adjustable wrench. I never really liked using adjustable wrenches. The pointed part of the lower-jaw channel of a 12" one even hit me in the forehead; fortunately not my eye. I was working under a deck and it slipped while I was pulling hard. The only advantage I can think of for an adjustable wrench is that it can be used like a nut driver. I wouldn't want to use the pliers wrench like that.

These are nice, well made tools. Not sure you need them for your applications. You could use a ratcheting socket wrench or a ratchet wrench to tighten down the vice. You could also use that vice to straighten up that piece of sheet metal. All superior to the Knipex tool you use in the video. I appreciate the video though.

Just bought a pair myself There are a few setbacks. Firstly they will not work with a pipe if you need more leverage or you'll tear the handle rubber. The bigger issue , They are not as easy to set the size with one hand as the adjustable even with practice. Which if you think about will come up if your using them for anything that isn't in a fixed position. Great tool just don't throw away your adjustable.

Great review! Those Knipex pliers have alot of really cool innovation to them. Amazon lists them at $59.99 though, so probably not going to see the inside of my tool box until either my Irwin adjustable or Channel lock pliers fall apart on me. Also, and yes I know it's pretty nitpicky of me, but I was a bigger fan of their old solid red design. This new coloring would just make me think "Oh, need to get the Disney pliers for this one." Looks like a good tool though. Thank you for uploading!

@andrewkim6037 3 года назад
@@em0_tion For myself, the Knipex pliers wrench is two tools in one. I'm not sure if I can remember the last time I've user a regular pair of pliers or an adjustable wrench. The Knipex does the job of both tools and it's easier to carry too. The Knipex especially shine when you're working with a material that you don't want to scratch or mark up. The price is higher than some other tools, but I think it's worth the price considering it replaces two other tools. Plus the quality of Knipex means I won't ever have to replace it. It's a high-quality tool that has stood the test of time and offers good value for the money. Hope that helps, good luck.

Plastic coated or comfort grips... which do you prefer having used both?
@RenaxTM91
@RenaxTM91 7 лет назад
Depends how and what you use it for. I keep mine in the pocket and then the comfort grips are too large and uncomfortable and makes it harder to get it in and out of the pocket. Also if you have a nut in a wall the comfort grip is larger so you'll need a angle on the nut, but with the standard grips you can put it flat against the wall... For if you only ever carry them in a toolbox, and work a lot with pipe fittings and such I'd consider the comfort gripped ones, but the cost more and doesn't offer anything but a bit more comfort. The standard grips isn't that uncomfortable either, I have many times used them with all my arm-strength without it hurting my hand like some narrow wrenches would..

Hummmm corect me if I'm wrong. I can't stop but thinking about that wracheting motion. If you let go the force on the handle, the jaws will slightly open, allowing for a free reverse/wracheting movement. If you let go the force on the handle has you're tightening, should not the jaws also slightly open? If this is the case, it means that you will have to hold both handles with a good grip to prevent the jaws from opening as you are tightening or loosening, something you don't have to do with a regular adjustable wrench. If you're in a bad position where you can't hold on both handles or need a lenght of pipe on the handles for extra tork, this won't work. I can see this tool replacing a regular channel lock plier, but I would keep my adjustable wrenches. Does this make sense?
@urbanfireblade
@urbanfireblade 8 лет назад
+John Lucic I understand what u mean but i think in practice if you can grip fully on an adjustable wrench handle then i can't see why the same wouldn't apply to the Knipex one as long as you have the tool so the front handle is where your fingers are, if you can only get the Knipex tool on but in a reverse position so the front handle is in your palm instead of your fingers, this is where your theory might be true as you will not be able to keep pressure on the Knipex's front handle to maintain closing force on the jaws. But i think in practice this situation will never occur.
@sompka1
@sompka1 7 лет назад
unless using on its outer bounds of adjustment, if you adjust it correctly the handles get pretty close together, enough to wrap a hand around both. I keep this tool in my upper chore becuase its so damn useful i wouldnt even compare it to a crescent wrench. The gripping seems to completely eliminate the rounding of fasteners with only two surfaces.
@meyer097able
@meyer097able 7 лет назад
I see what your saying but that's not how they work, Because of the pivot point you barely have to squeeze the handles . The pivot point provides a 100:1 pressure ratio , So just by holding it like u would do a normal set of pliers with your thumb and top two fingers around the two handles and having your bottom two between the handles its very easy to squeeze>turn>slightly release >turn back> repeat... if that makes sense..lol.. Trust me there an amazing tool ... :-)

I'd never heard of Knipex before your videos, now I can see how excellent they are. I do have a question: What are the pros/cons/differences between the Pliers Wrench and the Raptor? Would you consider doing a short video on the differences and which would work better for different applications? Thanks, Subscriber Michael
@RealToolReviews
@RealToolReviews 8 лет назад
Thanks Michael! Nope, no scripts.....just a lot of various scenes to cover all the relevant info/features. Glad you like my style. The Pliers Wrench & Raptors are both excellent pliers, but aside from the smooth jaws they are completely different. The PW is designed around a cam-mechanism that will squeeze (10xs force) evenly across the surface of the jaws.....where the Raptors will create force on specific points of the jaws only. For rounded bolts, the Raptors are a better choice. For general use with all fasteners, the PW would be ideal. Interesting idea on a comparison, I had not thought about that.....but I will see what I can come up with. Thanks!

M Kusaev Pliers can grab things without having to slip over them, so in many cases the Pliers Wrench would work where a normal boxed end on a ratcheting wrench couldnt slip over the fastener.

ugh, absolutely not. Just as one doesn't reference Wikipedia in academia, one does not buy based off of Amazon reviews.

Nothing really new about these... they've probably been around over 20 years now. A little pricy, yes, but considering their forged construction not bad. They're very much more versatile than they appear, open up a lot of doors, and grow on you with time... but care must be exercised for use on softer and/or thin wall fittings... they have much more compressive mechanical advantage than other pliers and can crush or deform delicate stuff. (Especially the larger pairs.) I lost one pair, and replaced them through that online 'prime' gimmick outfit. The replacement pair had a 'tight' spot in their adjustment that didn't become irritating till after the return period expired... went to the Knipex website, jumped through a hoop or two and they replaced them. It's been a while, but if I recall correctly, I did have to pay to ship the tight pair to the midwest. The 10"(250mm) pair is by far my most used, next the 6"(150mm)... have two pair of those, one's dedicated to my desk. Have a large pair as well, 16" or so, that doesn't see a lot of use, but has 'saved the day' on a few occasions. Pretty sure they're also made in some other sizes... but those 3 well suit my needs; as always, your mileage may vary.

@saikspaik 5 лет назад
Are you a linguist or definitely not? I guess second. It is not silent, you can check how germans pronounce "knipex" on official channel.
@NickleJ
@NickleJ 5 лет назад
Somewhat ironically, the study of linguistics is one of my primary pastimes ;) And I do know that German pronounces its _k'_ s in its _kn_ words, just like English used to and some other languages still do. I concede that I may have been somewhat wrong in my comment. But in my defense, you can see how the _English_ pronounce "Knipex" on that same official channel (example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MrXSjawLyL0.html). But, on that same channel, you can also find videos of English speakers pronouncing the _k._ You'll also find the _i_ pronounced as a long _E_ (as in the english double _e_ in _meet)._ And you'll see a various other difference throughout their video catalog as you move between languages and dialects. Pronunciation is a variable thing; it's only correct when the majority of people around you understand it to be correct. In many contexts, you'd be correct. In some, I would be. Lastly I'll add that how the Germans pronounce the name is basically irrelevant, with in the context of the English language. I'd guess you don't pronounce the _overwhelming_ majority of names of foreign companies the way they do in their homeland.

Mark Newburn You guys are both right just depends on what the manufacturer wants to do. In English we wouldn't pronounce the "K" but since Knipex is a German company, they will pronounce the "K". Same reason why their pliers are sized in millimeters instead of inch. Lol

You will note that this reviewer simply fixes on with the Knipex without any demonstration of the horrible adjustment procedure. He has already adjusted in advance to avoid showing the main disaster of the Knipex mechanism. The massive travel of the jaws makes closing the handles impossible for optimum use. You then have to slacken off the jaws and simply guess the final lock position of the handles whilst placing a sufficient grip on the fastener. Knipex pliers wrench is not a solution. Poor.
@RealToolReviews
@RealToolReviews 4 года назад
You will note also that I have no problems with the adjustment mechanism.... obviously boils down to user preference.

Great Guy you can compare it with other words that begin with kn if you listen to how they pronounce other words with KN, but oh I must be wrong with my pronunciation of all words beginning with KN, just because they pronounce it like that doesn't mean that is right for everyone, I don't have a German accent or pronunciation so I don't pronounce it like that, I studied German too, also Knipex UK pronounce it as Knipex not Ke-nipex You say it how you like and believe what you like, I know what is right.
