Hi Hayley from Perth WA. So happy I just found you. Going through all your podcasts & Vlogs. Love that you knit with Spotlight yarn!!! I have too. Also loved how you put all yarns used in description of all you knit in 2023. So helpful. Thank you.
For in person yarn shopping in melbourne Maker Maker in Brunswick is great. For online but based in Australia Yarn Trader (in Adelaide), Skein Sisters (in NSW) and Little Woolie (Mornington Peninsula) are great. I would love to do a day trip down to the Peninsula to browse at Little Woollie in person. Thank you for the podcaster recommendations! My sister and I have a fibre arts podcast too - mostly knitting but also some crochet, sewing and embroidery from time to time.
Good morning Hayley, thank you for this knit and chat, it was so lovely to catch up with you this morning! Thank you for the shout out too, you’re the sweetest!
Yes, Yarn Trader is the best. I live in Adelaide, SA, so whenever I can, I drive down to Port Adelaide, to peruse their store and have a look at some of their yarns. I loved going to Morris and Sons as well and I went there last year when I was visiting my sister (my sister came as well and she had a full on discussion with another knitter about AI?). I would love to go to sunspun yarns next time I am in Melbourne. On another note, I love your videos and your channel, It feels quite homley and comforting. I have kinda lost the joy in the knitting community over the past couple of years so it's nice to see some new knitters revive that joy for me and makes me want to pick up my own knitting projects myself. Currently, I am gauge swatching for the Novice cardigan and I hope I can finish it, as I tend to start sweater projects and just give up due to my own insecurites, so I am excited to start it. I have so many projects myself including two shawls in progress. One crochet and one knitted. Like yourself, I started to learn how to crochet when I was a kid, but didn't pick it up until 2013. From crochet, I then learnt how to knit and from there learnt how to sew. ( I have way too many hobbies). - Ranjita aka choclatesandpasta
thank you so much for watching and all the kind words 🥰 you definitely can finish up the novice cardigan! I found as a beginner it was really difficult to let my perfectionist tendencies go but once I did it was so freeing and I found myself getting more creative and adventurous with my crafting 🫶
Hi from the UK 🥰 I’m currently sat here wearing my porcelain sweater knitting my second cardigan no. 9. I’m also a nurse and have been following you for ages, your videos are so cute 🥰
Hi Hayley, I'm in Perth WA originally from Scotland, been knitting for about 6 years now and there is always so much more to learn. currently casting on my Salty days for the KAL :) and looking forward to completing it with fellow knitters. I just finished re reading ACOTAR and started TOG, I work at spotlight and its very dangerous for my pay check, but also love buying from local hand dyers, rainbow and sprinkles plus stitchcraft and wizardry (Yarnia). always had a lovely experience with Yarn trader and The yarn bowl.
I need to start TOG!! I’m nervous to delve into that series cause it’s so big! thanks for the yarn store suggestions! spotlight is great but definitely lacking for choice at the moment 🥺
Your knitting story is so similar to mine. Learned to knit as a kid, didn't do it for YEARS. Taught myself to crochet because my daughter wanted to learn. I still love crochet but I've been knit-fluenced by my SIL lately
@hayleys_space well... there's a flax sweater for my daughter, a tonight top on my 3mm and then a (modified) mayball wrap cardi on my 4.5mm. Oh and and socks. Please don't ask about crochet wips because it's not much better 😂😂📝 I am not a monogamous knitter or crochete
Hi Hayley, love your channel. Im just working my way through your pods. Two more brilliant Aussie podcasts for you are. "purlfect Pairings" and" Two Purls in a pod"! Love all your knits and yes, I think one really needs Wool with "bones" in it to activate the beauty of the Salty days sweater. I must say I really enjoy Kutovakika's patterns, especially the ones that have tutorials. I've just finished my third "Darling Cardigan" of hers. Ah, yes and another gorgeous wool shop in Melbourne is "Little Woolie Makes". It's in Hastings on the mornington Peninsula, it has an online store but the shop is crammed with all manner of beautiful wools...Im salivating at the thought! I've been buying a lot of wool from Wool warehouse, its so so good, I can't believe how quick the wool arrives!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the episode! I have heard of both of these podcasts but still haven't got around to watching them yet! I do agree a nice wooly yarn would've been the better choice for the salty days but alas we live and we learn haha I've been meaning to go to Little Woolie as well! everyone is always saying such amazing things about it!
Hi Hayley. I’m knitting on my Alma cardigan while I’m watching this. 🐚 while I’m not going to knit the salty days sweater I actually cast on a Salty Days-adjacent pattern - the Storm Sweater by petite knit It’s very similar and your KAL gave me the push to cast this on as I’ve had it on my list forever. So I’m joining in ‘in spirit’ 😉🤭😂
I love that you’re joining in spirit 😂 we feel your support! I’m actually so keen to knit up the storm sweater at some point! I’m excited to hear your thoughts on the pattern 🥰
Hello! So nice to hear some more from you in this format. I tried to see if anyone else mentioned them but Two Purls in a Pod is such a great knitting podcast from two knitters in Melbourne - their channel is great! If you are in Canberra again a store that some may not know of is The Markets Waniassa it is a very diverse store with the aim of being a market so stock all sorts of gifts, handmade things but the owner is also an avid knitter and crocheter so there is so much yarn etc! There is also so many catch ups in Canberra if you ever post there - everyone is so friendly! Your KAL sounds like heaps of fun, I’m not on insta so will follow along here to see it made up :)
my friend who lives in Canberra just went to the markets waniassa and got so much beautiful sock yarn!! definitely worth a trip next time I’m in Canberra for sure 🥰
Knitting on my shell cottage socks enjoying a cuppa and your podcast. Another podcast I really enjoy is Gayann from Purlfect Pairings. Have a great weekend
I worked on a test knit beanie while watching. 🧶 Thanks for answering my questions! 💜 I watched so many of the Aussie podcasters you mentioned. I already knew 6 of them. And I'll check out the others.
Hi Hayley 🤍 I just discovered your RU-vid/instagram last week & love following you for some cosy knitting content :) as I was watching this I’m working on the Lodge Sweater by Ozetta. I have a bachelor in Musical Theatre, so I think we have a very nice common interest! Love what you’re doing x!
thanks for watching!! have you pursued a career in musical theatre then?? in another alternate dream reality I have pleasant sounding vocal chords and live a life on broadway 😂😂 I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos 🥰
@@hayleys_space Yes, I do! I’m from the Netherlands, so the professional musical theatre workspace is quite small. I’m also a singing teacher 🎶 do you have a favorite show?
Hi Hayley from a fellow nurse and long time knitter. Currently enjoying knitting Westknits Glittering Snowscape shawl. Controversial knitting terminology 'backwards knitting ' refers to lefthanded knitting, which is perfectly natural for some of us. A better description is 'mirror knitting' . Other Australian podcasts you might enjoy Mindful Making
Loved listening to your path to knitting. I’ve crocheted a little off and on but was heavily into cardmaking and taught classes. Sadly this stopped due to COVID (fellow melbournian). I went back to crochet but crochet socks felt uncomfortable so learnt to knit from you tube. I’ve knit many pairs (9” minis are my favourite) and a few Musselburgh beanies. Yet to crochet/knit a garment though. Would love to one day visit Sunspun or Morris & Sons. Little Woolie makes near the peninsula and Spin a yarn are my local stores now after Loom and spindle sadly closed. @Lovebirdlane is another Aussie RU-vid/hand dyer, @twopurlsinapod (Melbourne ladies) and @yourknittingbestie. Love watching your videos also Hayley.
thanks for watching and for the podcast recommendations! good on you for learning to knit socks from RU-vid! they can be such a challenge for beginner knitters so good on you 🥰 thanks also for the yarn store recommendation I’ll have to check it out!
Hello Hayley!, just want from you to have a good day and know that I really love your videos so much. I wanted to join the salty days kal knit along but unfortunately I have school :( . I was planning on making the sweater with a light blue that almost resemble Morgan's yarn but I guess school won't let me do that. Anyway, love you, all love from UAE💐🫶.
thank you so so much 🥰 your kind words mean the absolute world to me thank you 🥰 a shame you don’t have time for the KAL at the moment but I’m sure you’ll be able to knit up the sweater in the future and I look forward to seeing it!
Hi from Perth WA. Love Aussie you tubers (still trying to build the courage to start). I am a nursing student (47 years old) and I can't wait to start the KAL on 01/09 as I have had the pattern and yarn for ages @sewcialliberty 🐚
hello!! another Perthian 😂🥰 let me know if you do start a channel I would love to watch! It’s definitely one of those things that you just have to start and then once you do it all becomes much easier and a lot less scary 🥰 I’ll add you to the KAL chat on instagram now!!
Hi Hayley, I'm loving yours and Morgan's content. I'm a crocheter from WA who aspires to knit and your journey inspired me. I love Kutovakika's designs but am not quite ready for your knit along (yet). Two other Aussie podcasts I have been enjoying are Two Purls in a Pod and My Knitting Bestie.
your knitting skills will grow so quickly with your background as a crocheter! you’ll be knitting up a storm in no time I’m sure 🥰 thanks for the podcast recommendations!
