If you're following the pattern you're doing it correctly. Small holes are normal, and they disappear after you machine wash and dry the dishcloths. The look of all of your stitches will improve after washing and drying.

You're more advanced as a knitter than I can possibly hope to be. I am new at this and even have a bit of trouble sometimes with beginner patterns. I love these shaker clothes and I hope to be able to make one someday. You are a real pro. I really admire all your designs.

This is just the best lesson ever!! Even if one is not into knitted or crocheted dish cloths this is invaluable as a lesson. So many facets of effective knitting is covered here, even including the perplexing problem of weaving off the stray bits so they won't unravel. Thanks so much - one of my favourites.

Hi Kathy - yes, and yes. :) I agree with you...I find 100% cotton yarn to be stressful on my hands. The yarn I use in this pattern (Knit Picks Comfy Worsted) is easy on my hands, and absorbent as a finished dishcloth. In fact, I prefer the cotton/acrylic blend as a dishcloth, too - not just as a knitter.
@verypinkknits

This video is made to accompany a written pattern. It isn't confusing when you use both the pattern and the video together. In fact, Ravelry users have rated this pattern as "easy".
@verypinkknits
@verypinkknits 11 лет назад
Kathy - thank you for the note! That is a mistake, and I've corrected the pattern. You should get a notice that the new pattern is available for download to you. Instead of "19", it should read "11". The entire line is "Begin working these 12 rows a 12th time, but complete 11 rows only."

I watched all sections of the video through just to familiarize myself with the processes involved, because this is coming up in my que! If I ever get through my first lace project that is. It didn't come with videos like yours do. Lesson learned :) I've been dealing with cognitive issues for a while now and have a hard time retaining information, so it takes a lot of time before I finally "get" something. The additional support of visual instruction to supplement the written pattern really, really helps!

Yes - using another device (like a mobile device) will get you around that. But the instructions I gave you to go to Ravelry directly will bypass my website, and not trigger your antivirus software.

Linda - you always want to make dishcloths that can be machine washed and dried. If yours are "shrinking" - the shrunken size is the actual size they are after they're washed and blocked (in this case, machine washed and dried). If they're smaller than you like, you may want to make them bigger, or use a bigger gauge. For this pattern, in this yarn, the finished dishcloth is over 8" in diameter, which is a good size.

Hi Sandra - yes, the brand of antivirus software called Avast is currently giving false-positive virus warnings for my website. There is no virus, and I've gone around and around with the company trying to get this fixed. I don't know what else I can do. But you can still get your pattern...just go to Ravelry and search the patterns for "Shaker Dishcloths". You can get your pattern straight from there.

No, gauge isn't really important. I list it in the pattern for these reasons - with the correct gauge, the size of the dishcloths/coasters will be as listed in the pattern; and the yardage needed will also be accurate. Different gauge will require different yarn amounts, and will create differently-sized dishcloths.
@verypinkknits
@verypinkknits 11 лет назад
It will work, yes. But your gauge (stitches per inch) will probably be different than I have in the pattern, and so the thickness of the dishcloth and/or diameter will be different.

Hi Ethel - you could make this dishcloth the top of a beret, but it would take more than modifying this pattern. You would actually need a whole new pattern to turn the circle into a hat.

I can't picture exactly what you're describing, but if you're working stripes in the round, you do want to correct the color change jog (knitting into the stitch below on the second round of the new color is a good way). You can see it demonstrated in my video "Knitting Help - Correcting Color Change Jog".

Thank you for the note, Sonia. My website is up and running fine, but if you are using Avast (AVG) antivirus software, you will see a false-positive virus warning. There is no virus, and I have tried and tried to get the company to remove the warning, to no avail. You can still follow me on Ravelry, Facebook, and RU-vid. Or if you like, you can send a trouble ticket to your antivirus software company, encouraging them to fix the problem.

Really neat. I've made a bunch with a similar pattern that had 14 points but is cast on without the provisional cast on method. seaming up the ends leaves a ridge and the center hole is larger. I'll give this method a try. I like to use them as washcloths so I always use cotton yarn. I'm curious if you did felt your wool yarn sample and if so how it turned out. Thank you for the tutorial video, very helpful and informative.
