I discovered a new way lately for middle of the row or at least one stitch in. Placing needle in next stitch is necessary as if to make next stitch I reminds me of a bit of a dance , the results are no tension difference, no extra thickness and two tails hanging down next to each other | | on the back side , holds nice until tails can be woven

Thank you i do this too but it took me a couple years to land on it because no one ever explained what to do with the resulting hole afterwards . I didnt know that you were supposed to use the tails to close it. Lots of times i dont bother dropping the extra loop because without picking at my stitches i cant see it. Also for non superwash wool i spit splice whenever possible

I'm a big fan of the spit splice method, too, when it's non-superwash! Great point!
