This capelet would keep my neck and upper body warm while not having to put on a full sweater. Using your yarn of choice and working in the moss stitch make a swatch that measures 8" square or so. Count how many stitches per inch you are getting and then you can tell how many stitches you will need to go around your neck and your shoulders comfortably (keeping in mind that you need an even number of stitches). You will need to do a lot more increase rows than with this bulky yarn. Have fun!
