Knitted by Whitney Podcast Ep 23 -- Surprise! I'm in my 💖 pink 💖 era!
Welcome to my channel! I'm so happy you're here and I hope you enjoy! I started a knitting podcast because I didn't see many podcasts hosted by plus size knitters and wanted more representation for us, so why not make one myself?

"Blighty" is an English slang term for Great Britain, often specifically England. I definitely have trophy skeins of yarn, that I don't think would look as good knitted up. The pink hair looks amazing, and your chicken is so cute.

That's my favourite P&P version too. I love the Jennifer/Colin version too but I find the movie so soothing. And I love that scene in the rain!

My fiance and I call yarns that look better in the skein or hank a "hank job". So if there's a variegated yarn we link in the hank but don't want to wind it up, say, "Oh yeah, it's a hank job."

Love the pink hair, glad you are in a better space. I knit the emotional support chicken and love it. I was thinking about making it using dk weight for tiny chickens for my friends with toddlers (: great idea to use mini skeins! I have come fully around on the 2005 pride and prejudice movie. I loved the 1995 mini series in high school and had an irrational dislike for Kierra Knightly. I recently had a girls night with friends who had never seen any Jane Austen movies so we watched the 2005 and I was surprised how much I loved it. Amazing how things can change with time. I just read bookshops and bonedust, the prequel to legends and lattes. Both are amazing d&d inspired cozy reads that I highly recommend!!

Trophy skeins! This is the perfect name for this phenomenon. There is one popular indie dyer that makes GORGEOUS variegated skeins, but the yarn when knit or crocheted just doesn't look as pretty to me. I have learned I'm not a fan of their particular style of dying variegated yarn so I have since stopped buying variegated from that shop. And while I may not like the look of the knit fabric, when I see the photos of the skeins each pre-order I am just in awe of the beauty.

i love your pink hair. Since cancer my hair ist white and i look a little bit like a old lady. I think i make the experience of pink, because my hair is very short, if i dont like it, i cut it again :) And i love your stile, your friendly charakter and i like so so soooo much, that you show knitting things in big sizes. I never find someone else like you in germany. Thank you so much for that.

Your hair looks lovely, pink is just the best. Blighty is a reference to Britain/England, it think it was used mainly during the 1st and 2nd world. It’s funny how my favourite book, Anne of Green Gables, originates from your home and Jane Austen was born in mine, England. Favourite books are always a blessing during tough times, you are in my thoughts 🙏🏻

Thank you! Hahah it's so funny how books become popular in different places. Anne of Green Gables is hugely popular in Asia (similar to the Beatrix Potter books!)

I’m sure you gave Google a ramp up on searches for spoilers for that book.😅 I personally have not read any vampire or werewolf romances yet, but I plan to. I will not start with this one. (I haven’t googled the spoiler either.😉) your spirit was really naturally bright in this episode. Happy knitting!💛

I've wanted pink hair since 1999...but I've always had very long hair and don't want to dye that much bair. When I say long, it used to be around tailbone length back then but I've been at or around knee for most of the last decade and it's never been above bra strap length since I was about 12. 😂 That length is incredibly short for me, even though that's in the realm of long for most people. My hair is also very very fine, but I've got way more than you in terms of thickness. My ponytail is around 4 inches when my hair is at its fullest. Not as thick as some, but for my texture, that's really thick! So yeah, I can't afford to have that much hair dyed and I don't really wanna do it myself....so I'll stay dishwater.😂 Anywho, I need an emotional support chicken really bad. 😂

I'm just catching up on a couple months of podcasts, and I'm so happy to see your genuine smile again! I'm sorry for your loss and the difficulties you went through earlier this year. It sounds like you and hubby have been taking care of each other, which shows how much you two are a team. I love, love, love your pink hair! We also share preferences for floppy books and the 2005 movie adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. 😊 Knitting question: do you ever find you need to modify patterns to include bust or tummy darts? I've been trying to figure out how to do that and could use some direction to resources.
@knittedbywhitney
@knittedbywhitney 2 месяца назад
Thank you so much ❤️ I haven't done any bust shaping yet, but I'm seeing it come up a lot in patterns these days. I can think off the top of my head the follow designers who have done bust shaping in their patterns: Jennifer L. Parroccini, Andrea Gaughan, Lydia Morrow, Jacki Badger, Ysolda Teague, and Rebecca Clow's revamped and re-released Tolsta Tee and new Tolsta Tank patterns. Also, Nerdy Knitting has a video called "Knit & Chat: NINE bust shaping HACKS!

I 💕💞💖 your hair! It looks perfectly natural, like it’s always been pink. I’m right there with you on treading the thin line of light and drapey vs looks like it’s melting off your body. For me, any multicolor (marled, speckled, variegated, striping) looks better in a skein, except tweeds. I’m not a big color or pattern person, though. I do use variegated and self-striping for socks, though. I am apparently not bothered by obnoxious socks?
@knittedbywhitney
@knittedbywhitney 3 месяца назад
Thank you so much! I feel like socks are more fun the crazier the colours are, but I don't love the same look for my clothes. I'm finding myself drawn to crazy coloured yarns when they're in a skein, but when it comes to knitting I prefer tonals or solid colours.

That Romance Cardigan is exactly the pattern I was looking for!! I don't love how much positive ease the Petit Knit Balloon Cardigan has, but I'm not experienced enough of a knitter to figure out how to make that one. Did you say what yarns you're using? I was thinking about using a dk weight.
@knittedbywhitney
@knittedbywhitney 3 месяца назад
I'm using a discontinued DK yarn from Michael's so it's not available anymore, but I made my bridal version of the cardigan in Drops Brushed Alapca Silk. Romance is such a wonderful pattern, I HIGHLY recommend it!

Hi Whitney! Just wanted to ask if you washed your swatch for your tee to see if your teal stripe would bleed? I have made dish cloths with cotlin and remember some color coming out, anyway just wanted you to be sure. Blighty is a slang term for England, there is a podcast called Back to Blighty. Becky is amazing!
@knittedbywhitney
@knittedbywhitney 3 месяца назад
Thanks for the tip! I haven't yet, but it's on my list to do before casting on the tee. If there is bleed, I'm going to wash my teal yarn a couple times on its own before knitting with it. Hopefully this will keep the colour from tainting the white 🤞🏼
