Knitted by Whitney Podcast Ep 24 -- I'm not out of the woods yet with the mistakes in my knitting 😬
Welcome to my channel! I'm so happy you're here and I hope you enjoy! I started a knitting podcast because I didn't see many podcasts hosted by plus size knitters and wanted more representation for us, so why not make one myself?

Good for you, we live in such a body conscious world, and as long as you are healthy in your weight, and happy, that is what life is all about!!❤

Fun to hear all about your knits! I don’t knit a lot of cardigans, but one solution for the buttons might be to anchor your button by using a smaller, flat button on the inside. I believe this is a tailoring technique in garment construction. I hope this makes sense!

Oh thanks for the tip! That sounds really helpful 😊

Agree. Even a small, coordinating piece of felt would help with the anchoring.

I totally get being terrified to rip stuff out. I've never had much success with a lifeline either. What I do is find a stitch that I want to rip back to, usually an edge, put a marker through one leg, and then rip to about one row before the marker. Then I take needles a few sizes smaller and rip oh so carefully by putting the needle into the stitch below and undoing the stitch above, if that makes sense. It's tedious, but has never failed me, from socks you sweaters. New viewer, love your channel!

That's what I do too! If it's really slippery yarn, I even use a warning needle with lace weight scrap yarn to pick up instead of a smaller needle, since you can pull the yarn through and not have the extra strain of the needle on the surrounding stitches. It is tedious, but definitely worth it!

Girl! SOOOO excited for your publication and interview! I got the goosebumps and that lump in your chest when you feel pride for a huge accomplishment of someone you care about! That is beyond exciting! Truth: I started your video at night and I ended up falling asleep - it happens ALL the time when I watch without knitting. This morning, I remembered your first few projects wanted to go back and re-watch the rest of your video to hear your exciting life news. I am SOOOO glad I went back to rewatch. That accomplishment needs to be in your tag line!!! In US but will try to both read and listen. Congrats again and again. Oh, and will absolutely go watch your video on patterns for men. My son and grandson commented that I make things for my DIL and granddaughter all the time. It's time for me to surprise them with some knits. My son is extra large, so size inclusive is a must.

I use matching yarn to add buttons. I just thread it through and then tie the knot on the back. That way it’s easy to change out buttons. I always give a tiny ball of yarn with the gift.

You inspire me- not in a "wow so brave" platitude sort of way. In a like, I see myself in you but at an earlier point in the process and I'm so thankful you are further along so this content exists and I can learn and grow and find myself in the process. One of the scariest thing for us "big girls" can be to really embrace "fat" as a neutral descriptor, but it's so empowering just to be like YEAH WHAT ABOUT IT!! Anyway, I think you're just great and I sent your article to my anti-diet dietician to talk about how thrilled I was to see this extremely relevant, niche content.

Awwwww thank you SO much! That is such a kind and empowering comment ❤️ I'm SO proud of you for being on that journey, even if you're at a different stage. I meant what I said that the journey is definitely not linear and it never truly ends. The best thing we can do for ourselves while we're on this journey is to give ourselves grace to feel the downs as much as we feel the ups, and to just be proud of ourselves for whatever achievements we're currently making 🥰

I echo the sentiments of @nadiamaple. I have been on my own journey with learning to love my body just as it is and have always valued your candour on this channel. I’ve learned so much from watching your videos about how to knit for my body that I finally managed to knit a sweater that actually fits! I was weaving in the ends as I watched this video, and it felt so serendipitous to be doing so as you told everyone how you were featured on the CBC sharing your own journey with knitting and learning to love your body. Thank you for all you do to make the rest of us feel seen and help us find patterns that will make us feel comfortable and beautiful in the skin we’re in. ❤

Hi Whitney! It's always fun to hear all about your projects while I relax knitting on mine, and today was no exception🥰 The little cardigan you made is so cute and the magenta top by Emilie Louis is turning out so so nicely (the color is stunning!). I also really loved how you talked about your journey of acceptance and self love. I'm not a plus size person but your words really resonate with me, when it comes to the accepting and self love journey I started a couple years ago - especially regarding my anxiety and mental health. Before that moment I've always thought that I was the problem, cause I felt nothing like the other people my age and that I was strange and wrong, and for that I always found myself wishing to be someone different. It wasn't until I pause and - with a considerable amount of psychological help - reframed the situation in my mind, that I started truly believing that parts of me I hated so much weren't the real problem. And that I could have been happy, fun, brave and beautiful exactly as I was and that I could love myself and have adventures, despite my anxiety and with my anxiety❤ I will happily read your article and listening to your interview, cause I'll never get tired of hearing about others self love journeys! Thank you for inspiring us all with your honest experience🫂

I just love hearing about all you’re doing. “Came for the knits, stayed for the chat” situation, for sure. You are just amazing. I can’t wait to see the lovely magenta tank. That’s going to be fabulous with your hair. Just a thought on Kofi… most of the creators that I see using it use it as a tip jar “buy me a coffee” type thing. I think that’s how it started. I don’t know anyone who uses it like Patreon, with additional content, etc. (Many actually have both.)

There are two creators I know who use Ko-Fi and the payment model has changed in the past 6-12 months to mirror Patron more and the default option is monthly subscription fees. Not sure if it's the only option though. I'll look into it eventually if it's something I want to pursue ☺️

Beautiful!!! All of it! You, your hair, your projects, your interviews, but especially your energy!!! You give so much advice/ honest feelings and you seem like you’re thriving! That’s what excites me most on your podcast! Ps… I love 03 Cami! I made it last year! It’s wonderful! I would advise one thing with it as an edit I would make for myself when I make it again… I wish I connected the center sooner as I feel like the center rib makes my boobs look wider… so essentially I feel like I wish I would have connected when the middle rib was over my nips😂💕 I hope that makes sense and I still LOVE the pattern and fit and product I made, just wanted to share!❤

I love stories with a "reverse age gap". Ingrid Bergman, 45 at the time, played a 40 year-old woman who was the romantic interest of Anthony Perkin's 25 year-old character, (Perkins was 20 at the time). The movie was made in 1961 and called Goodbye Again. There aren't nearly enough stories where the woman is older.

Also, you sharing your knitting struggles is very comforting to me, as I'm a beginner and make so many.

Oooh I'll have to check that out! I looooooove Ingrid Bergman, she's so sexy! I feel like Barbara Stanwyck has also done a reverse age gap romance once or twice -- she's definitely been the older co-star, but maybe Hollywood put her in young roles to hide her age.

The mistakes never end, at least not for me 😅 I've gotten comfortable making them though because when I was first learning, I chased new skills and techniques, and now that I'm a more experienced knitter, I'm working on learning how to fix those mistakes instead of ripping out and starting over 🫠

Hedgehog fibres is in Ireland, not the UK, so I wonder if that’s why the duty situation is better? Not living in either Ireland or Canada I don’t the know the import rules!

I've ordered from dyers based in England + Ireland, and only one dyer in England resulted in duty charges.
