Welcome to my channel! I'm so happy you're here and I hope you enjoy! I started a knitting podcast because I didn't see many podcasts hosted by plus size knitters and wanted more representation for us, so why not make one myself?

Thank you so much for giving honest opinions on garments for plus sized women. Love the look of the Seaborne Tee.

I was going to suggest Nerdy Knitting’s video on bust darts. Good luck with the dress!! Congrats on 5K!! Looking forward to seeing your collection of yarn.

So happy to hear you're experimenting with adding picking a size by your upper bust and experimenting with bust darts! It was a game changer for me and I wont knit a sweater without them now. The One Wild Designs pod (on RU-vid, they have a very helpful Slack community too) has a bunch of episodes on fitting knits, and at least one focused on bust fitting, if you find yourself looking for more information.

The colour of the Baignseuses tank is stunning I can see why you are persisting with it - hopefully it's happy sailing from here on. Cannot wait to see how the dress comes along...that yarn is stunning too ❤

Exactly! I want to wear it so much so it's worth powering through the frustrations... but I will never knit a pattern by this designer ever again!

I know this isn't the first video with it, but I love the pink hair! Not only is it adorable, but I think it reflects your bubbly personality too. Gosh! I am so frustrated! Your book review, weirdly, reminded me of a short story that had basically the exact opposite impact on me- it was a very mundane, slice-of-life type of story with very realistic, "regular" characters, but something about it was just SO well written, so homey and inviting that I was SO disappointed when it ended because I just wanted to live in their world more. In the absence of a specific rec, I _will_ at least recommend you check out some of Helen Oyeyemi's works if you never have; I feel like she always has characters I'm charmed by!

Whitney!! I'm so excited for your dress! You're being brave and bold and going with the flow, so much fun! You go girl😍 I get what you say about being inspired by Chelsea cause it happened to me too! I started following her through your recommendation and omg she's amazing, so fun and such an inspiration! 🤩

Loved the WIP parade! Also, that dress is stunning on you. I have one similar with a different neckline and youve inspired me to dig it back out. Your Seaborn Tee is going to be so cute, I love mine. A fantastic pattern and the FO is so easy to wear yet makes me feel very put together.

Loved the reel with all your WIPs! It was a perfect combo of humour and flirty fun. I laughed at the reveal of the back of your dress especially hard. I was hesitant to knit garments before I discovered bust darts because every time I knit something, it fit so badly in the shoulders and upper arms that I would end up frogging it. Then I got the tip about selecting my size from my upper bust measurement, and it was a game changer. Knitting top down will make the bust darts easier to add because you can try on and adjust as needed to get your perfect fit. Another thing I have discovered that can help with fit is moving back increases to the front if the back is fitting well, but you need more room for the bust.
@knittedbywhitney
@knittedbywhitney Месяц назад
That's true! I've heard about designers who have more stitches on the front half of a garment because our backs are flat but our fronts... are not LOL! The Pillars Tank will be my first time choosing a size based on my upper bust measurement and I'm really looking forward to how it will turn out ☺️

I've just started working with bust darts and learning some fibers show it way too much for me but can see how fuzzier yarns would be more hidden. But my shoulder and neck area definitely fit better using my upper bust!

I'm knitting bust darts while watching ❤ they absolutely get easier the more you do it. I am also new to choosing sizes based on upper bust but I will not go back! I recently just knit a top that is supposed to have a couple inches of positive ease, but I ended up choosing based on upper bust, adding darts, and having 4in of negative ease on the full bust - and it fits soo well. In no way does it look too tight. I have a recommendation for the placement of the darts. Because our chests are all different, where our full bust height lands in relation to the underarm also varies. So I suggest blocking and trying on your dress and knit until you reach the full bust/apex of the breast. Then add the darts. Good luck on the dress! ❤❤

Thanks for sharing your projects with us, dear Whitney! ❤ Btw. even though I completely agree with you that being a slow knitter is a-okay, I don't feel that you are slow at all. 😁 I am always amazed by how many projects you work on and very impressed - especially as a monogamous knitter! I think you can be proud of yourself! 🤗

Thank you so much Hanna! I used to be a monogamous knitter too, but I started to find more joy in having multiple wips. I'm trying my best to stay on top of them and give them all equal love though 😊

I feel you on patterns that are "size inclusive" but not graded correctly... I made a crochet t-shirt that I matched gauge on perfectly, but instead of being a crew neck, it was literally COMPLETELY off my shoulders. Not a little "oh it's slipping off my shoulder", but both sleeves completely off of my shoulders onto my biceps, neckline just above the fullest part of my bust. I've learned to not trust patterns that aren't test knit/crocheted by larger sizes, or aren't at least willing to trade testing for the pattern.

That's horrible! I've had experiences like that too, but I seem to have a selective memory sometimes and forget the bad experiences when I want to try a new to me designer 😅🫠

I'm glad you were able to fix your Baigneuses. I followed your saga and it would be a pity to see such a beautiful project not succeed! On the yarn highlight, Majora's Mask is my boyfriend's favourite Zelda game, he used to play it a lot as a kid and showed me the game and some videos about it some time ago. It's interesting, even if somewhat sad, because it's about helping others and running against the time. There are some nice video essays about this game around here in RU-vid. And good luck with the dress! I do love knitted dresses, and love seeing them. I'm eager to follow you through this project! ❤

lovely video as per usual! I've been following along with the tank top saga on instagram and can say that I could feel your frustration! I really hate it when you dedicate hours to your craft and it doesn't turn out right, especially when it is entirely the fault of the designer - so I really feel for you. Also, I should note that it shouldn't be your responsibility to call out the designer. Especially when a designer claims to be size inclusive. You should be able to knit a pattern and be confident that it will fit, regardless of your size. Anyway, I feel really inspired by the way that you went back to fix it, so thank you for sharing!

Hi Whitney. I hear you with the excess material across the top. I have a larger bust also and find sometime I start top down in a size smaller and then add stitches to increase to my correct bust size as I get beyond the armholes. That would make the arm holes smaller and also with the smaller size on top would make the shoulder straps narrower. Just a thought. Diane from Boston
@knittedbywhitney
@knittedbywhitney Месяц назад
Thanks! In the case of this top going down another size wouldn't have solved the problem because the pattern is so badly graded 😔
@Shetooktothewoods
@Shetooktothewoods Месяц назад
I agree with the going down (using high bust and FBA like you’re doing with your dress) in general, but you can absolutely tell by the neck size that the pattern is very poorly graded, indeed. Necks don’t change in the same proportion as areas where we actually tend to store fat. I’m thankful that you are adventurous in trying new (to you) designers and reporting back because it’s helpful for us to discover lovely new designs or hide designers from our Ravelry search results, but I hate that you have to go through the knitting disappointment to get there. ❤
@knittedbywhitney

Your pink tank looks terrific now (with all of your modifications!). Wondering what basic tank you may have knit in the past that was a favorite? I'm looking for a size-inclusive, top-down pattern but am shying away from a lot of what's trending these days. Love your style!

Thank you! This is actually only the second tank I've ever knitted. The first one was the Botanical Tee but that features a front lace panel. I've heard very good things about the Tolsta Tee by Rebecca Clow that just came out 🙂

I never do bottom up patterns anymore. At all. Because I also have a lot of fit issues because my body proportions are a tad unusual. I can’t even bring myself to try any at this point, having had so many bad experiences with bottom up. Your tee looks beautiful - I love the teal with the warm milky white! Very classic! I recently had a very bad pattern experience, and it really does ruin the whole process of making a garment. I’ve decided I just won’t go to that designer anymore no matter how cute I think the samples are. And oh my gosh - those “size inclusive” patterns that are just made larger without consideration that not all parts of a body scale up the same. This is the one thing that enrages me so, so much. No matter how cute, I will not knit a pattern with no larger sizes tested, or no larger sized projects on Ravelry (projects with notes!), I will not knit it. I’ve had the exact experience you talked about and it is infuriating. (I’m sorry to hear you didn’t like s3! It’s my favorite - I’ve been watching it on repeat 😂. That’s the beauty of Bridgerton, though…there’s something for everyone as each season and each couple are so different!😊)

Those are all good boundaries for choosing a pattern to knit! We spend so much time and effort making these patterns that we should do everything we can to get a successful result 🙂

I'm so sorry about your nightmare experience with the Baigneuses top 😢. I think that because your yarn is a rayon with a tendency to stretch, the existing grading issues were made worse. This is why it's crucial that test knits are long enough for the largest sizes to be test knit comfortably because otherwise, you'll end up with these kinds of problems. Edit: I think you'll need to add elastic to the neckline and armholes to really cinch them in, even after you've redone the neckline. I don't trust the fabric will have enough stability on its own.

Whitney...on the t-shirt that didn't work out...i have a feeling that no one has reached out so the designer doesn't know. If you reach out with feedback and nothing happens at least you tried. How can designers get better with size inclusivity if no one says anything?
