Hello from Kent in the UK 🇬🇧 Whitney, your dress is absolutely gorgeous and fits you perfectly! I really enjoy seeing what you’re working on as well as finished objects. It’s also wonderful to see a podcast by a beautiful voluptuous knitter so that us plus size knitters can see what these lovely items look like on a curvaceous body like our own - thank you 🙏🏼 Sending love from across the pond, Sam xxx

Whitney, you can put the sleeves on waste yarn a few rolls above the lace part and cut the yarn and add the two inches and graft the sleeve back together! You can do it. Love your knitting this dress and reviewing it, because I want to make this beautiful dress! Thanks so much!!🦋🤗

Hi Whitney, what a beautiful opening with your sweater dress, it looks fabulous on you, and love the color as well, I don't know how you do it, such a lot of knitting, I used to knit suits and dresses also when I was younger, I was more adventurous then😁 I'm more into smaller things scarfs, mitts, headbands, and baby clothes, I bought some cotton yarn and I am going to try and do a summer short sleeve top, love that wool that you chose for the headband How exciting, can't wait to see who wins, very busy still moving house, very exhausting, Take care and stay well, hugs from Australia Sarah, 🍄🧚🍄
@knittedbywhitney
@knittedbywhitney 2 года назад
Thank you so much Sarah! Oooh I’m just imagining how comfortable a knitted suit would be - now that’s something that would take a lot of time and effort to make, but be a true statement piece! A summer top sounds like a lovely make, and it’s a great way to ease back into garment making because it’s a smaller project than a long sleeve sweater. Thanks for watching 😊

While watching, it felt like I was a part of the conversation and that means a lot for the “still” pandemic, stay home as much as you can, recommendation. I wouldn’t mind if you were even a tiny bit closer to the camera. I don’t know about anyone else, but I watch on an iPad or a computer so, the person I am watching feels even further away but, JMHO. I'm so glad I found your podcast - I fell in love with the Augustins dress the moment I saw it but have had two concerns with it, no one else seems to substitute with any more budget yarn, and I'm plus size and the same as you have not seen anyone my size knit it! I loved seeing it on you and hearing your modifications, and that you've knit it out of acrylic, you've made me decide 100% I want to knit it this year, and I'll definitely be watching all of your episodes. Thank you so much!
@knittedbywhitney
@knittedbywhitney 2 года назад
I’m SO glad I could help you decide whether or not to knit the Augustins no. 21 dress 😄 You’re right, those were two reasons I was also hesitant to knit the dress! I took a chance and just went with it because I knew I could help others who might want to make this pattern who have the same reservations. Someone had to be first, so why not me? 😉 Thank you for your support!

I never made garments cause I was so large and didn’t have the money for all the yarn so steered away. I give you the most amount of props girl. Simply amazing that you have so much confidence and grace. I really do love your channel and attitude. Keep being you. Have a fabulous day.

Thank you! I’m really sorry you felt like you couldn’t make garments for yourself before. Knitting is a beautiful and magical skill that enables us to make clothes that fit us, instead of forcing us to fit into clothes that are mass-produced. We are all beautiful at any size, and there are lots of options for yarns at a variety of prices - take this dress for example, which I knit with seven balls of yarn that I found on sale for $2.50 each, costing me $17.50 total 😊 I’m so happy you enjoy my channel and I’m glad it brings you so much positivity ❤️

I love your videos, checking out your previous ones as well, chat soon!.....side note, if you have extra wool from your dress maybe consider some sleeve surgery. Cut the sleeves above the lace work and add a couple inches then so a purl side kitchener stitch to add the lace work back on!

Really enjoy your insights on fit for plus sized bodies! I’m at a stage in my life where my body has significantly changed shape - it’s taking time and lots of inspiration from others to learn to start dressing for my new shape. Perhaps you could pick up stitches above the lace on the sleeves of your dress, and cut like you would for an afterthought heel, then knit the extra length you need? It looks beautiful on you as it is though!
@knittedbywhitney
@knittedbywhitney 2 года назад
Right! Sweater surgery is an option! I think if I ever get around to fixing it, this would be the way I go - it’s a little scary to cut my knitting, but it’s the easiest one to do because it means I wouldn’t have to knit the lace again, and just do Kitchener stitch to seam it back together 😄 Thanks for the suggestion!

Would you be so kind to tell me where you got that ball of yarn mug. It’s so sweet. I didn’t catch what where you said you got it. Thanks. Love to listen to you while having my morning coffee

Your dress is absolutely stunning on you, I've wanted to knit myself a dress for so long, going by your experience it doesn't sound so daunting now!

Haha! Yeah, the lace is intimidating, but so pretty when it’s done

Beautiful dress! I love that lace. Did you use markers between the lace repeats? On wider lace charts or problematic rows I've had a better time recounting after each repeat to catch any mistakes. Definitely get taking a break from lace though... I just got done with three projects with tiny 1/1 cables so I'm over tiny cables for a bit! Are you open to ravelry friends?
@knittedbywhitney
@knittedbywhitney 2 года назад
Thank you so much! I would’ve used markers in between, but the repeats were so short I would have run out of markers 😂 that’s a good tip though that I’ve used in other projects! Of course, please feel free to add me as a friend on Ravelry if you use it - I try to keep really good notes of my projects for myself and others who want to see how I’ve made something 😊

Your dress is lovely. You could always take out the neckline and finish it with an I cord maybe and make it looser

Thanks for video, it's so lovely to knit with your company. The dress is stunning! I was wondering if you could offer some feedback later on about the washing / drying of it? I'd love to knit a dress one day, but super worried about how on earth I'd wash and dry it... I'm a little anxious about garments in wool yarn as I'm scared to wash them in case they get stretched out! Any thoughts / feedback / tips in a future video would be amazing! x

Thank you so much! I’m actually not too worried about washing this one because I used yarn that is 80% acrylic, so I can just toss it in the washer and dryer 😊 I also don’t think I’ll be washing this too often because I always wear t-shirts under my knitwear (I learned this tip from another knitter), so the tee gets sweaty and dirty, but the knitwear stays clean. I wash my knits maybe once a year, but usually less often than that 😅 When I do wash my knits, I put them in a tub of lukewarm water and wool wash, let them soak for 20mins, then roll them in a towel to soak up most of the water, and lay them flat to dry like I did when I originally blocked them (though I don’t need to pin them out unless they have lace that I need to open up after washing). Hope this helps!

I love your dress!!! Wow! The lace is great on the sleeves. I’m also curious what was the yarn beside your cat on the couch in the intro. It’s beautiful.

I too am plus size + would have avoided a knitted dress like the plague. Your looks absoloutely georgeous on you + I think yours looks better than the designer in hers. I think hers is far too loose + the details are swamped on her.
