Finding the best interchangeable knitting needles can be tricky. This video tries to take a close look at the stainless steel interchangeable needles from the Chinese company ChiaoGoo and the Indian company Knitter's Pride - specifically their so-called Mindful collection.
Throughout the video, I try to highlight all the minor little details as both circular needle sets are very similar and you will be hard-pressed to find meaningful differences.
I included close-up macro shots of the tips, the joins, the cables, and the body of the needles and also did some research on the production quality and origin. Enjoy!

Thank you so much for this! I have not seen anyone else cover this topic as thoroughly as you did, and you really allow for a much more educated choice for the consumer. I’m a Knitter’s Pride girl for my interchangeable set, and love that I can also buy Knit Picks tips and Lykke cords, and they all fit each other! I do have to say that I appreciate my ChiaoGoo fixed circulars as well, but don’t feel the need to spring for a ChiaoGoo interchangeable set. I guess I’m glad they both make quality products!

I’ve had my Knitters Pride interchangeables for 10-12 years and when the Mindful swivel cords became available, I ordered all lengths (all KP cords fit all KP tips). The cords are inexpensive and I can’t even express how much I love them. The swivel feature is wonderful plus the cords don’t kink at all. ❤❤❤❤

@roslynyeomans5544
@roslynyeomans5544 Год назад
@@tracyguttenberg5659 You’re welcome, Tracy. My suggestion is that you get just one cord in the length you most use to see if you like before ordering all the lengths. That’s what I did. I would also suggest you order directly from KP, or another source specializing in knit products to assure you’re not getting a knock-off. PS: I agree with Norman about the Mindful turquoise button-style stitch protector-they’re difficult to screw on-I use the flat black ones that came with my original KP interchangeables.

Timely review. I have been intending to purchase a complete set for months... (preferably in a wood box with rose gold trim) though a pretty pink case may suffice. The significant cost means that I am putting *almost as much thought into brands as I did the naming my children. My hesitation emanates from the thought that needles from the $2 shop are just as effective. Moreover, is it possible to see a marked difference in quality between knits performed on a $2 set vs. a $200.00 set though I note comments about less snags with the Chiaogoo brand. Upon acquiring a professional set I shall keep my cheap needles: useful in unblocking the vacumn cleaner nozzle. These reviews are most helpful. I shall consider the experience(s) and opinion(s) of other knitters across all forums before making a final decision.

I enjoyed this very much, and appreciate all the time and effort this must have taken. I have both the 4 and 5 inch Chiaogoo sets plus accessories such as the grip pads and other extras, so I consider myself set for life. I love my needles, and for my style of sweater knitting, they are perfect for me. This review convinced me even more I made the right choice. I especially like what you pointed out about the slight difference in the tips. I think that little taper on the tip, where it is slightly cylindrical and then flares out on the Chiaogoo is what does it for me. I've never had my Chiaogoo needles come unscrewed, but the knitters pride bamboo ones I bought at Hobby Lobby when I was learning sure did. Those needles are pretty, but those cables stayed all spiraled like a slinky no matter what. If I ever have occasion to use a bamboo needle, and I doubt I will, I am happy to know I can get these new & improved different cables for them. Thank you again, you're a gem!

Thank you Norman for this very good in details made comparison. I have the knitter pro mindfulness collection gratitude and I love them. It’s just beautiful and nice to use. The little negatives you mentioned I also noticed: the longer cable connection as the cable stoppers and the 360° wires connection. But they are minors. Thank you for your excellent work you do! Very much appreciated

I have two sets of interchangeables, both of which I keep in KnitPicks interchangeable needles cases. These cases are wonderful - 2 big zipper pockets (one where I keep my cords/cables and the other where I keep my notions including a gauge). Also, there are two sections for needles, enough for 20 pairs. These needle sections are suited for 5” needles, so I keep my 4” needles in a small bag in one of the zipper pockets. These needle cases retail for about $15 and are often on sale. The case dimensions: 6” x 8” when closed. Also, the case has a double zipper (which I love).

Very helpful. I received part of my Knitter’s Pride order today and am waiting on the second part: US 3, 4, and 5 sizes, 5” tips, stainless steel, with one full set of cables.

Norman, as always, you are the best! I am now debating between the two brands....I am a faithful ChiaoGoo knitter but the Mindful set has a few design qualities that I'm attracted to. With that said, your review is the BEST ! Thank you for takin the time to educate me on these two products. As always, your videos make me a better knitter.

I mean, they do sell singles. Why not give it a try. The design certainly is a lot more cohesive but if you are used to cg...🤔

Thank you for such a thorough review. Your needle reviews are by far the best on RU-vid that I have come across and love how you stress the importance of trying out before committing to the entire set. I have ChaioGoo interchangeable tips in just the US 1 & 1.5 size that to try out for socks and magic loop. I really like the thin cords on these and don’t see the need for an entire set. I also own mindful needle sets in the 4” tips, 1.5” tips and DPNs. I really love these sets and am glad I purchased (I did buy a couple tips to try out first). Knit Picks also has a nice steel interchangeable needle set in US 0-4 which is very reasonably priced and may be my new favorite for socks. Cords are comparable to ChaioGoo but tips are really smooth (no texture) like KP’s nickel plated needles but pointier. I like them all for different types of yarns and projects.

Thank you for your extremely, in depth, research into these two products. I use chaigoo and find them very light to knit with and the interchangeable cords and the connection very smooth. I did, however, need to buy one of the ‘Mini’ sets, in order to obtain shorter tips, which are ideal for knitting projects such as socks, negating the need of DPN’s. The Chiagoo set that Norman demonstrates is a full set, but a half set can be purchased and added to, at a later date. I can thoroughly recommend this product but at over £100, for a half set, it is an investment. Thank you, Norman, for your wonderful videos. Lynda (U.K.)

Yah, there sure are so many smaller sets as well. But difficult to fit those into a video as well - especially as I don't own/needed them

I'm in the market for my first metal needles so this video is very timely! Your needle reviews are the best I have been able to find: You always mention all the factors I really care about. Right now I am trying to decide between Addi Rockets and Knitter's Pride Nova Platinas (I want to look at them in person before I make a purchase) but I was curious about the Mindful collection. After watching this video I feel like I understand all the differences between the Mindful and the Nova Platinas event though you didn't mention the NPs at all. :)

❤thank you Norman ❤️ for this information. I went to Amazon to order for the first time my knitting needles, since I'm a beginner and also subscribed to your channel. I saw the ChiaGoo circular needles. They're so many needles from bamboo to stainless steel. My preference is stainless steel, because to me it has more durability. 😂. Well Norman I wish you and your family a blessed New Year, and God bless. Looking forward to seeing more beginner tutorials in knitting. ❤

Hello, Norman, from Oregon, USA. I’m so happy to see this review of needles. Believe it or not, I have been thinking about the purchase of a new set of knitting needles and the two brands you are talking about are both being considered! The set I have now is Knitter’s Pride but I’ve heard good things about the ChiaoGoo needles. Your review is very informative and helpful towards my decision. Thank you! 👍🧶👍

I'm sure you'll make the right decision! And always remember, you could buy a single mindful tip. It will work with the rest of your cables to see if you like it.

Very thorough and greatly informative. 👍🙏💕 I have both Knitters Pride and 2 sets of Chiagoo and lots of extra cables etc. You know what? I really just love my additurbos best. 😶I don’t even mind how many different sizes and lengths I’ve bought. Sooner or later a WIP comes off and there’s a naked needle! 😊

I went with ChiaoGoo a few years ago and used your earlier reviews to help me decide. This was a great review and I am still very happy with my ChiaoGoo choice. I especially love their smaller 'mini' needle sets, so far just for socks but potentially for other small circumference items in my future. I love my ChiaoGoo.

Thank you once again as someone who has been hunting for the "perfect" needles you have with this post confirmed the conclusion I came to a long time ago perfection is in the hands of the user. I've used KnitPro as Knitters Pride are known as here in the UK and as much as I loved the tips of their Zing needles I always found the joints a tad too catchy. I was again never drawn in by the hype around the ChiaGoo and thought of them as wee tad pricey. I am a convert to Addi steel lace fixed and HiyaHiya steel tips.But then as you have said as knitters we all use what works for us and our knitting style. Thank you again.

Thank you for all of this information! I just started learning to knit last summer and your channel has been most helpful! Someone at my LYS turned me on to the Mindful interchageables with the swivel cords. Before long I had bought the Believe set (the smaller 5" set) and have been using it almost exclusively ever since. I hadn't realized that this collection was so new. I'd wondered why I didn't see it recommended much but was always seeing recommendations for the CG. The Mindfulness part isn't a factor for me either but I'm very happy with the needles and debating getting the Warmth set. I do like the double pockets in the ChiaGoo case. I'm trying to come up with a plan to keep needles organized as I collect more, and I can only stuff so many into the pouch that came with the Believe set! lol Now I'm trying my first socks and needed smaller needles and the Smart Stix I picked up are so blunt in comparison! I didn't realize how accustomed I've become to the lace tips. Now I'm on the hunt for sharper small-diameter circulars. (Knitters Pride, if you're here, why not make the 2" tips small enough for sock yarn, and offer all sizes as interchangeables???)
@NimbleNeedles
