Knitting a Flat Panel on the addi Express Kingsize Knitting Machine 

I am disabled because of Multiple Sclerosis , knitting with needles successfully is impossible for me . I’m hoping to have success using one of these machines some day . Feeling successful at something is food for my soul , I need to keep creating.

To those pretentious gits who say this isn’t “real” knitting- get off your high horse and have a think! I have used these with dementia sufferers, stroke survivors, or with arthritis. For people who have been knitters, it gives them a sense of purpose; it makes them happy to create again. Imagine being unable to do what you love, and suddenly you are shown a way you can still knit something simple, and make hats or scarves for family and friends again. Imagine having forgotten how to knit, and you turn the handle, and suddenly a flash of memory comes back and you remember and reminisce about knitting, even if only for a short while. My grandchildren love to use the Addi machines, and yes, I have taught them how to knit with needles as well. Anything that gets children creating is worthwhile. Anything that gives a resident of an Aged Care faculty purpose is worthwhile. We make hats and scarves for homeless... everyone is a winner. So don’t bung on about it not being real knitting. It’s as real as using a pair of needles.

This is a very good alternative to knitting, because knitting with ur hands take so much time. It’s crazy. People who say this is cheating, it’s ok if u got so much time to knit with ur hands but there are other people that just want to make their own personalized clothes. So respect everyone

I love my Addi Express Kingsize...I buy yarn on sale or from thrift stores and make winter caps to donate at the women's homeless shelter. They are always happy to get them and I am in SE South Dakota where winters can get brutal.

Just fyi from a former teacher. Taut is for tension meaning tight. Taunt is to make fun of or try to provoke someone. Thank for a well displayed video.

For those that say this is cheating..how foolish!! I knitted for several years and had to stop due to crippling rheumatoid arthritis. This machine allows me to knit again. Even if people don’t have arthritis, it’s still foolish to call any time of craft done in any way, cheating.

Thank you for demonstrating slowly so I could actually see what you were doing. I watched a few on baby hats and the knitters zoomed through. Whew!

A little tip: you can indeed get rid of the little tab. Instead of letting the black needles at the end grab the yarn on the first round, have the yarn hook onto the red beak-shaped thing after the last white needle and from there, feed the yarn into the yarn holder thing. Then just turn the handle like normal. Bam. No more tag.

I am hand knitting my first pair of socks, and while I LOVE knitting to relax and to have a sense of accomplishment, I think I’ll have to invest in one of these gems and rattle of socks of QUALITY that will last. What a terrific AND AFFORDABLE tool. Thank you for a terrific tutorial!!!

I can finally knit panels thanks to this video. I have watched so many and just couldn't figure it out. But this video has me knitting panels for sweaters, vest, blankets, and anything else that can use flat panels. Thank you so very much!!

I am so glad you pointed that out. I used to love embroidery, but developed carpal tunnel in both of my hands. Also, if you are more interested in design, texture, and fit than you are in the actual act of knitting, it’s perfect.

I think it’s brilliant I had one of these as a kid, it was one you did yourself an easy loom type my mum had always knitted and tried to teach me I didn’t have her skill but we would sit together making stuff. It isn’t any different then people who bake but use a machine with a whisk. If it helps you then use it. Stop making issues about items that makes life easy. Nobody is forcing you to use these items, choices are up to you. If it make it easy for you and keeps you happy and active then sod the rest who have nothing better then to moan.

The negative comments are so funny! Every innovation is met with critics! When the sewing machine was invented, people said it wasn’t real sewing! When machine quilting started, people said it wasn’t real quilting! Get real people, any tool that can help a person express themselves is a wonderful thing! And can let a person expressing themselves for many more years when hand work is impossible due to age or handicaps!

Thank you for the demo. This is a huge time saver and I never considered doing a flat panel instead of making something circular. For those that have lots of time to hand knit, more power to them, but some of us have busy lives and need to save the time for really important things.

To everyone who says this is cheating, or this isn't real knitting, etc... This would be ideal for someone who has issues such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, or maybe they have limited use of one or both arms. So get off you high horse and just chill.

What a great machine, and a nice clear Tutorial. Isn't it a shame when you went to such effort to create this and post it for all to benefit from free of charge that some narrow minded & ungracious people can only think to criticise you & correct your Vocabulary.

I bought a different brand of this machine as a gift for my Daughter (with Down Syndrome) who keeps attempting to crochet gifts for others, but can't quite get the hang of it. This machine seems to provide a great service. The instructions her machine came with didn't suffice, so I landed here. But, there was one problem we encountered while watching and listening. It has nothing to do with the machine, but the verbal instruction. Whoever might happen to read this, Please don't hate me for the following comment, I'm simply offering an observation to help the instructor do a better job. Several times, Karin, instructed to hold the yarn to keep it "taunt". The word that should be used is "taut". Very similar sounding, but with a completely different meaning. This may seem like a BIG criticism for such a small mistake, but as you may already know, the word "taunt" is often all too familiar to an individual born with Down Syndrome or other learning setbacks. Turns out to be a pretty big "oopsie" in this video.

Amazing. Good job who invented this thing. Gonna look for this online and do the easiest knitting and make bonnets or scarf.

I have been doing flat panels wrong. Thank you for showing me. I thought I was supposed to take the thread out and manually wrap it around the needle at the end of every row.

To all the whiners saying this is cheating, a washing machine is cheating, a dishwasher is cheating, a sewing machine is cheating, get over it, machines are just another adaptation, end of! Great tutorial!!

Iv just got my addi king knitter today Sunday Amazon IV been after one for a year naw and I got one today I'm chuft with it I already have a addi express and the egg too naw I have all 3 of them

It would be perfect for making a bulk amount of hats, but the edges are still going to curl if you don’t use purl stitches. But it is a great machine.

How can i make the scarf narrower than this? Can i move the black stoppers to a desirable width? I hope to get an answer fairly quickly. Im so far behind on my projects that i went from crocheting hats for Christmas, to scarves.

seems to be easy, but every time I try to use this again it keeps going wrong. I've had this Addi for 4 years, but it just doesn't work. I lose the yarn, usually at the last white row (right next to the 3 black ones) even when I knit round, it goes wrong. really a shame. I like to knit, I can no longer knit very well, I have rheumatism in my thumbs.

Thanks for the video. I want to do a hand knitting bind off and at around 6:40 and somewhere before that you mention another bind off option...but I can't find the video for that, you just say "that I'll show you in a minute". Do you have a video on this? Thanks :)

Question for anyone who can answer this. I'm hoping to get one soon. When knitting panels, I know you can make scarves with flat panels, but is this ideal for if you want to knit a blanket? I'm so new at this machine (never used it before) but love it better than looms already.

How do you knit a flat panel that is less than the 46 stitches? For example ... what if I only want to knit a piece that is 30 stitches wide.

I have been following your directions but when I turn the handle it it a bit hard to turn and I get a clicking sound. The shuttle is closed and it doesn't make the sound when the yarn is not in the machine. I did not get the booklet with the machine when I bought it from Amazon. I wrote and told them this and never received an answer. Now I found out I need to pay $25 for the booklet.

Say..for example... I'm knitting a PANEL on the King-Size Abbi. A few rows require 45 needles, and other rows require only 40 needles. Am I at risk of breaking the machine if I try to knit only 40 needles, when the machine is set-up to finish a row at 45 needles? (I hope no one thinks it's a dumb question. It's my first time using a knitting machine. And I don't want to break it.)

Spent ages trying to find these then I find out it costs a ton . Tried asking a guy to make one after he bragged about being such a great toy designer but instead he breaks the mini version I got .

Cant find a king sized one for sale.

When you make a flat panel on these knitting machines, how do you get the edges to uncurl? Anyone know? I find it irritating. I end up doing some kind of crochet stitch all around the edges just to overcome the curling tendency. If someone has other options, I'd be glad to know.

When I try knitting a flat panel the first and last white needles around the black ones knock the stitch off when I bring the machine around til it stops. Anyone have advice for this problem?
