Knitting SIMPLE SOCKS using STRAIGHT NEEDLES

//ABOUT THIS VIDEO//
Do you want to knit a pair of socks, but using straight needles? Well, it is simple and easier than you think. You can modify the length based on your sizes.
In this video I show you the steps to knit a pair of socks using straight needles. It is very simple and quick.
*Steps*
cast on 18 stitches
Border
Row 1: (k2, p2), repeat till end of row
Row 2: (p2, k2), repeat till end of row
Repeat Rows 1&2 seven more times (total 8 rows)
Leg
Row 9: knit till end of row
Row 10: purl till end of row
Repeat Rows 9&10 thirteen more times
NOTE: both the Border and Leg can be modified per your preference
Heel
Row 23: k1, skp, k12, k2tog, k1
Row 24: purl till end of row
Row 25: k1, skp, k10, k2tog, k1
Row 26: purl till end of row
Row 27: k1, skp, k8, k2tog, k1
Row 28: purl till end of row
Row 29: pick up stitch, knit till end of row, pick up stitch
Row 30: skip stitch, purl till end of row, pick up stitch
Row 31: skip stitch, knit till end of row, pick up stitch
Row 32: skip stitch, purl till end of row, pick up stitch
Row 33: skip stitch, knit till end of row, pick up stitch
Row 34: skip stitch, purl till end of row (have 18 stitches in total again)
Knit stockinette pattern for the length of your foot
* I knitted 45 rows
Repeat Rows 23-34
Knit stockinette pattern till rib border
Repeat Rows 1-8 for the rib pattern
Bind off and sew both sides together

I like video and simple way of knitting socks. I’m not sure about the cast on of18 stitches. Would this be the cast on for all sizes and for larger foot you adjust size with larger needles? For example for men size would you still cast on 18?

Hi, sorry for delay in responding. If you want to go general without measuring....children: 12 stitches, women: 16, men: 20.

Thanks! On the heel part when you pick up stitches, are we supposed to slip the first stitch on the purl rows?

You would pick up stitch after knitting the row and then slip the stitch and purl till end of the row.

Hi....the yarn I used was is weight 4. I usually use Red Heart. I use US 8 or US 7. You can also use the needle size that the yarn label suggests. Let me know if that works. :)

Hi Jacqueline, it is Red Heart yarn of weight 4. The needle size is US size 7.

I wear a size 7 US and they fit well....you should be fine with this measurements. But if you want to decrease by even number so rather than casting 18, cast on 16 and work up that way. Hope that helps.

At what point do I repeat rows 23 to 34 please xx

Hi Faye, once you have knit your border and the leg portion and you have the length you desire, you will start the heel to toe portion (this is rows 23-34). You need to do these rows 2 times. So once you do them once, just repeat them one more time and then you can start finishing your sock. Hope that helps.

I am using a yarn of weight 4. I usually follow the needles indicated on the yarn label...in this case US size 8. Hope that helps.
