I love how you explain the Kitchener stitch! The first time I saw someone do it for a sock I was so confused and aggravated by it. Then I see you do it and it seems so easy now! Thanks so much!
Thank you for this tutorial. I have another project that I am working and have instructions for this and it has driven me crazy, my needles flip, switch, and I have to remove it all to start once again. I finally just put it down and said walk away. Seeing it worked is magic for me. Thank you
Love your tutorials, feels like a while since you did a full project one, forgotten how much I liked them. I don't know any knitters and am self taught so it's nice to see you answer all the questions I'm going to ask when I get to that bit of the project!
When you said five needs i was like woah mason chill out cuz literally just knitting a jersey for my yorkie so this is complex and incredible. This will be my goal xx
Your videos are always superb! You're my go-to RU-vid knitting guru for any new technique I need to learn. I just wanted you to know that you look absolutely stunning in this video!
livvy divvy - you can knit this in garter stitch if you like, but to achieve garter stitch you will need to knit a round/purl a round since this bag is knit in-the-round (not flat).
I'll have to try this bag. I've thought about making some totes since the ban (I'm also here in Austin) but I have been given free bags from so many sources that I have more shopping bags than I need. So I'll probably use this bag for other stuff. haha
You may have already had this answer, but the stitch holder is made by Aero. I'm not sure if they have Aero in the US, but they are available on eBay. X
I should get back into knitting. With what I'm going through in my life right now, this would be my release. Granted I don't have double-sided needles and don't have that many circular needles due to wear and tear, and I don't have that kind of yarn you're using - which by the way sounds like a fantastic find, I'll use whatever I have with whatever yarn I have left to make a nice tote bag like that. It may not be used for groceries, but I can use them for books or my numerology binder. I have an idea of how this is pattern looks. Hopefully i can save enough money to make the actual bag for my groceries. Thx for making this video (n.n)
That is HILARIOUS you say that because the reason I am on your video is because I am a knitter and plastic bags were just banned in my town too!! 😂😂 us knitters got that handled though! 🙌 much enjoy your videos thank you for the lovely pattern definitely making it!
I’m watching your tutorials as I knit a shawl. How about taking a mini rubber band and place that on the outside end of the first needle? That way when you get back around to the needle with the rubber band (and I have lots of different colored mini rubber bands) you know that you’ve completed a full round AND the sooner you can get back to Netflix!
Will you be doing a playlist on maybe a cardigan class like you did with socks and gloves? I have been trying to find a good tutorial and have been unsuccessful. Love all your videos!
Gloria Tashjian - I have several cardigan tutorials already available. You can see all of my sweater tutorials here on my website: verypink.com/category/sweaters/
Hello 👋 I have the pattern for this bag, however I want to use a completely different type of yarn. I only have a pair of US 6 dpns and it seems like the weight of the yarn I want to use is inbetween a medium and a bulky (4-5). My knitted gauge was 3sts to an inch instead of 6 sts. How would I go about changing the pattern to reach the same size dimensions?
Hi! I love your videos. I've learned so much from you. Thanks for all of your tutorials. Honestly, every time I get an idea for a project I check with your channel first lol. I would love to try this pattern but the yarn is too pricey for me right now. Do you have a tote bag pattern that I've missed on your website?
I have a tutorial for socks on two circulars...I don't like the technique myself (I'd rather use a different method for knitting a small tube or circle) but I know a lot of knitters do like using two circs.
Hi Staci! I'm making the ATX linen tote, love it. I'm wondering if I could use the linen stitch for the strap. Will the Kitchener stitch work ? Every time I knit one of your patterns I learn SO much, thank you. Note : Never try the pinhole caston and watch NFL playoff game at the same time !
Thx for this tutorial. I decided to give it a go and bought myself the materials to make this tote. Could I use the garter stitch throughout the entire bag? All answers appreciated I'm a big fan!
I also like this pattern and would like to know where I can buy just the pattern. I also live in Canada and 2 hanks of the Euroflax yarn plus shipping is over $60.00 CAD I can not justify spending that much on yarn as I am a low income senior. That being said I would like to purchase the pattern so I can make several of these bags to give as gifts. Can you assist by telling me where I can buy this pattern please. Thank you kindly. Sheila Blazenko Manitoba Canada
Sheila Blazenko - Louet is also located in Canada (like you). Louet sponsored this tutorial, and they are in charge of pattern distribution, and they have decided to offer this pattern free with yarn purchase. That's the only way this pattern is currently available.
Staci I love the tutorial and pattern. I cannot purchase the yarn at this time but in the future. Will the pattern\yarn combo be available for purchase for an extended amount of time?
Melissa Stewart - there is a list of retailers on my website (link below). If none of them are near you, you can order online or by phone through Louet, or through WEBS. verypink.com/2015/04/08/atx-linen-tote/
Hi Stacy! I know I’m a bit late on this pattern but will Quince and Co Sparrow work for this pattern? I don’t think the Louet yarn is available anymore. Thank you!
I'm about to start this pattern when the Euroflax Sport yarn comes in. My question is how long should the tail be when I do the slipknot for the Cast On?
I wish you would develop a 8 or 9" circular pattern for socks. It is so much easier to knit socks in the round. I am not a big fan of double point needles, and only use them when absolutely necessary. Help!!!!!!
You'll need to change up the pattern a little bit...the kfb stitch "uses up" a stitch, the M1 is between stitches. But if you're comfortable with that mod, you can use the other increase.
Hi Staci, I’m knitting the ATX Tote-almost to the stripes now. My question is about carrying up the yarn. Do I use the technique on every round, or only when I change colors ? Thank you making me a better knitter.
i have tried to start this bag to many times to mention. the needles are so small and the yarn is so skinny. Everything gets so messed up. Also my eyes are 72 years old. Any help would be appreciated.
+Beryl Chrobot - you may want to try different needles...many people have success with bamboo or wood needles, which have a little more "grip". That may help keep things on-track while you're working the beginning of the bag.
jalynhansen - I explain this in the video...when you start with so few stitches, it isn't clear where exactly the tail is coming from, and where the beginning of the round is. You pretty much have to mark the beginning of the round in another way. Using the tail end to mark the beginning of the round works perfectly when you have more stitches cast-on.
hi there....Help!....I purchased this yarn todsy as required to get the pattern for the beautiful bag,but did not give the promo code,by Mistake!...so the yarn has been ordered but no pattern...I have contacted the company twice without response...what do I do? I have purchased patterns directly from your site before, but I really wanted this free bag patterns....I'm not sure if there is anything you can do to help....Sue tupper...
Hi, love the simplicity of the pattern and loved this yarn so much, got several hanks to make at least 3 different color combo bags...so to that end comes my question--do the increase stitches absolutely HAVE To be kfb's? Can I use M1's L or R? I like them so much more (easier) & find M1's so much prettier, but don't know if it will work? Thanks and best regards, Your curious student, Lynne Sanchez
Oh, hi Staci! Thx for writing, but what I meant is where on the Louet site do you enter it? I was giving all my info to order the yarn and then I clicked on Paypal and that was it - I was whisked away to pay the whole amt. I just don't see where to put the code. (I'm on a mobile. Is that the problem?). TIA
Dorita Day - all of my patterns and tutorials work for both Continental and English/American knitters. When it comes down to it, there isn't much difference between the two, just the hand that holds the working yarn. This video explains more: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xfjeAl5FWx8.html
Thanks for your fast response. Can you respond to my second question. The method you demonstrated seemed confusing, but if I replay it several times, I may get it. However, if I can divide 32 stitches on four needles that would be easier. Do you think that method will also work?
Dorita Day - sorry, I don't understand your question...the pattern gives really clear instructions about the stitches on each needle, if that's what you're asking.
I have one question: when beginning the straps, I get that you will leave live stitches for the straps and then bind off in between, leaving two patches of live stitches and everything bound off in between and then you start to knit the handles, but that only leaves live yarn near one of the handle roots. Is there a good technique for getting yarn started again near the second handle, or do you simply tie a new piece on to one of the stitches below and start knitting? I have heard that knots can become weak points in your knitting, so I am hoping to avoid placing them anywhere they might already endure extra stress when the final project is completed, such as the handles of a bag. Thanks for any suggestions!
Hi I would like to but I cannot get the Pattern as it is 2018 at the moment and I just tried to look up the pattern from the website that you have linked and I can’t get to it so could you somehow give me some of the instructions with his back I would appreciate it thank you
Yes, sorry! It was just brought to my attention yesterday that Louet has stopped selling yarn on their website, so all of the links are broken to all of my patterns using Louet yarn. I don't expect that I'll be able to get an answers this weekend, but please check back next week, I should have the links updated and more info.
My favourite linen yarn 😀. I wish ALL the cities would ban plastic bags. The people who manufacture plastic knows that they have a Biodegradable option and don’t want to commit to the larger cost
Tammy A - this bag is worked on both circular needles and double-pointed needles. In the video, I explain that you can use the magic loop method instead of double-pointed needles, but it's really easier to start on DPNs, then move to circulars.
