I’ll be showing how to locate the rafters to know where to cut the sheet rock then after the pluming repair is done. I’ll be showing how to securely how to use the same piece that was removed to be replaced and apply the joint tape and then how to do the ceiling knock down texture.

This simplified everything…. I’ve seen others try to flick it, and or knock it down too early and even in your video knocking it down later you get to choose how flat it goes and you can do that slowly… very nice

Not bad if youre looking for an "average handyman" result. You need to wipe down the edges with a damp cloth or sponge to keep them tighter before you stomp your pattern to be knocked down to the existing ceiling or that edge will be noticeable by everyone except 100 year old aunt Mary with 20/200 vision after a couple shots of NyQuil.

I re did the lights in my bathroom and have a huge part to match the texture. I like the plastic water bottle application it got just the right amount of mud on the drywall. I’m not sure I’ll be able to do so well with the trowel but thank you for the video. I may just but up textured wall paper or tiles if I mess it up. Perfect explanation.

Thank you Sir! This was exactly what I've been looking for, for ages! I'm a newbie at creating ceiling finishes, and I have a 20" x 40" section of ceiling in my GF's house that I've patched but now have to match the finish/skim coat. It's some variation of a knockdown finish but I couldn't find any YT videos that clearly showed any knockdown that is very similar to what I have, until I found yours. Your end result is very close to what I have, and no fancy hopper equipment required! (Love the scrunched plastic applicator! 😄) I will be doing this tomorrow, thanks again, much appreciated. Will check out your channel further, all the best 🙏🏻 PS: Checked your channel, subscribed!

Little tip before applying mud and tape: Sand those areas some, so when you apply mud and tape, it won't create a hump.

That’s a good idea, especially on the walls, but I wasn’t as concerned with the ceiling since you can really look down the flat surface like on a wall.

Thanks for the video! I didn't quite catch what you did with the plastic from a bottle as you went a bit too fast there. Also can you do this technique of blending textures with a popcor ceiling too? Thanks!
@davidmartindaletheycallmemacgu
@davidmartindaletheycallmemacgu 2 года назад
This is a knock down texture technique only and won’t work for popcorn ceilings. I do have a video showing how to easily remove a popcorn ceiling though. I also have another video showing the same technique using bubble wrap which I feel is actually easier than the water bottle plastic wrapper technique. Got the water bottle plastic wrapper technique I just made it in the shape of a mushroom with the stem portion being wrapped with tape as the handle. Hope this helps and thanks for the comments.

I just moved a light in my popcorn ceiling. I wound up with a hole where the old light was. I used the piece I cut out from the new hole that had popcorn on it to fill in the hole. I filled the crack around that piece with patch mud I had from a hole patch kit I had laying around. It was smooth so I was like how can I make this texture match? I took another scrap piece of ceiling that had popcorn on it and I just pressed it into the mud and kept moving around pressing and releasing it till it looked as good as I could get it to look. Not great but better than a hole. Most don't even notice it.

Thanks David. My flex duct developed a leak onto the ceiling. I’m going to have to cut 2’x12’ to replace. I’ll give this a go. Do they have a dab brush for this?
@davidmartindaletheycallmemacgu
@davidmartindaletheycallmemacgu 10 месяцев назад
there are some other options, this is a free option if you have a small area, but for a 2' x 12' area I suggest using a texture hopper if you have access to an air compressor, you'll get a much closer match to your current ceiling because of the combination of the larger splatter and smaller splatter that won't get knocked down. if you look at your current ceiling you'll see small splatter between the knocked down splatter. If you have access to an air compressor, Here's a link to a hopper: amzn.to/3OZfvXk Tip: get some Painters plastic on a roll and tape off a couple feet away from the area your going to spray and place a drop cloth on the floor. they sell 99" rolls of the dispencer painters plastic at Home Depot. Tape to the ceiling and let it hang down and make sure the drop clothe extends past the plastic. when you use the texture gun the plastic will suck in so tape off as far away as you can so less chance of it being sucked towards the area you're spraying. If you have any questions before this Saturday send me a message and I'll try to answer any questions. I leave for a two week mission trip to Nairobi ,Kenya next week. Or if you're not doing the repair before then of course you can message me after I get back September 19th.

If you're doing a whole 4x8 sheet would you still use this texture application method or invest in a hopper gun? Thanks for the video.
@davidmartindaletheycallmemacgu
@davidmartindaletheycallmemacgu 2 года назад
No, I’d probably use a hopper or Wagner makes an electric power Tex gun, sells on Amazon for $109 and then if you don’t think you’ll ever use it again then just resale it. If you choose to get the power Tex use the white tip and thin your mud with clear water to pancake consistency. Hold it at a 45 degree angle and no farther than 2 feet from the ceiling. Be sure to tarp your floor and I suggest to hang painters plastic around the area you going to spray to avoid all the over spray. Let the mud sit for about 15-2.0 minutes after you spray and then use a large sheet rock knife and lightly drag it over what you sprayed to get the knock down texture look. Hope this helps. I’ll be uploading a new video with this method in the next week.
