The time you spend reorganizing your shop is totally worth the effort! This summer I spent 5 weeks going through my entire shop. Relocated equipment, materials, and general placement of things to make it more of an efficient work space. Things I had for years and really didn't need I got rid of. I'm really loving working in my "new organized" space and feeling so lucky to have it. I'm absolutely sure you will too! Thanks for your videos and wishing you continued success...
That was a big Job Ashley, but you and your team mate tackled it without any trouble. As always it is a pleasure to follow your journey in Wood Turning and Wood Working. you might have already had this suggestion, and I am not sure how space you have out back. You could always think about investing in a container to house all your wood you could regulate the temp to keep your wood dry. It would then provide more space with in your shop. Just a thought. Thanks for sure space as well I will check them out.
I think all woodworkers need to do a rearranging and house cleaning periodically. Hope to come and enroll in one of your classes some day. You are so talented in wood turning. Thanks for sharing.
Hope you don't mind me saying @5:34 you have the Laptop open when viewing content on your monitors - I have similar set up and for Win 10 users:- there's an option in 'Power Options', 'Choose what closing the lid does' or Mac Notebook - while its built-in display is closed. This is known as closed-clamshell or closed-display mode, the process is automatic.
Indeed, I have re organised my little shop many times. One idea i use for misc dust management is a shower exhaust fan in the ceiling and an industrial fan in the wall that moves large volumes of air out the back. this has made a real difference. :)
I have added to my turning shop 4 times in 10 years, and I am thinking about it again. Also I blow down the dust every 4 to 6 weeks. I open the big outside doors and turn on the air compressor. Love your work
Fresh coat of paint on the walls and roof. Some epoxy on the floor. Will change the mood in any shop and create a better atmosphere which is essential. Hanging pictures for inspiration of curved lines or whatever you can draw from I find it very helpful. I'm not a woodworker I work in metals
It's amazing to see the love in your eyes when you are in the workshop even when you're making a hard work like this. I'm your fan Ashley. Here in Brazil the women don't use to be craftswomen and for this reason I'm still more your super fan.
Organization of the wood is a big problem in my shop. However, when I get into my shop I want to turn or work on whatever project I have going and I don’t want to work on cleaning and organizing stuff as much as it needs to be taken care of lol. I love your work and your videos. I have been looking into your turning classes and been trying to find upcoming classes that aren’t already full.
Grazie, Grande Ashley ^_^
Great video and you have a beautiful presence on the video. Great communication too! Thanks for sharing your studio, I am also working on finishing the electrical on the last wall on my shop! Thanks for the inspiration! Love your work! :)
For me, I gather way to much usable stuff that I never use :-) . Like the idea of wooden panels, one always needs a place to hang new tools and stuff. Nice studio design Ashley!!
Aw Ashley, why did you go and clean up your shop. I always took comfort in that my shop didn’t look that much worse than yours. I too have a vintage collection of dust, offcuts, “good” and “pretty good” wood, and way too many tools for the space I have. Now I can no longer say;my shop is like Ashley’s and that means.... oh no.... New Years resolutions are in the offing. As usual you are an inspiration young lady. I hope my efforts turn out as well as yours.
Ashley, would be nice to see a sketch of your floor plan before and after the renovation. That way we could fully appreciate your results. How long did it take from start to finish? Excellent results, but no more chandelier...Marie Condo would be overwhelmed.
One thing - a simple thing - that you should do is paint the ceiling and OSB walls white. With this small investment, it will automatically seem like you have at least doubled your lighting. Additionally, go with LED lighting fixtures. The cost has come way down and you really cannot afford not to: They are simply that much better.
Hi Ashley. Thanks for sharing. With your reno, about how big is your studio (the part you work in)? I am asking because I am in the process of planning my shop and I haven't settled on a shop size yet. Also, I would very much would like to take one of you turning classes some time next year, maybe late summer or early fall. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Ashley.
I am surprised you did not take the back wall all the way to the existing block wall. That now space does not look as accessible or easy to get to. But I'm sure you have your reasons. Love the work you do.
Bringing back to zero the shop I’m doiing that 2 times a year I have also steel and Wood Good video Goiing on with buiseness and art Have a good week Salut from Luxembourg 🇱🇺👍😎
Good... The light battens Ashley: Make sure they're high frequency type one's as just normal one's are really dangerous near rotating machinery due to stroboscopic effects.. Glenn. GLMelectrical...🇬🇧🙂
@@SteefaTak It's the stroboscopic effects that I'm referring to though... Spinning parts of machine tools can appear stationery if the frequency becomes matched with that of switch start battens (50Hz/50 cycles in the UK and 60Hz/60 cycles in the USA)... Both the health & safety executive in the UK and OSHA in the USA take this really seriously... And remember: Ms. Harwood is inviting customers into her workshop studio's for sessions.... And as such will be under the umbrella of OSHA...🇬🇧👍
@@glennmoreland6457 Ok ,i was wrong , should read something about this problem before , sorry. I found i nice article about this. www.premierltg.com/what-makes-an-led-bulb-flicker-how-to-solve-led-flicker/ I also thought the flickering is over with the new LED era ...
Would love to know your thought process when deciding what stays and what gets tossed. What are your criteria and how do they relate to the way you run your studio/business? You reminded me of myself in several aspects; I suspect many turners can relate.
What is going in the 8x8 area? The reason I ask is I need to find a space for a laguna 18-24 and if 8x8 is enough I can make it work. Sorry spoke to soon. Looks great Ashley
Good video 😊 Sam Ryan on instagram uses tarp from the ceiling when spraying. Maybe a system like that could be cheap and beneficial to keep the new wood store more dust free 🤔 Looking forward to the next one. Have a safe and Merry Christmas
You are so Lovely... I have a career in a Very High Stress job... I look forward to your videos. So calming... Hope you can add more frequent content in the future.
Order to disorder is the natural law of the universe, some slow it down ( obsessive compulsive ) . I'm on my third unburying in 30 years, feels fanastic when your done.
Hello Ashley I live in Novosibirsk is Siberia, I admire your work on stonco, I also work with wood I really like. I watch your videos you are so fragile and work on the same moans you just did well 👍 👍 👍 👍
