I have two daughters- one plays piano and sings with me, and the other loves watching woodworking videos on RU-vid and helping me out crafting in the shed. I’m a lucky bugger! I’ll be showing them both this one.
Outstanding video. As a retired teacher I thrilled to see people like Ashley stepping out and passing along their skills. She’s a true inspiration for our upcoming generations.
I’ll tell you what, I try to get my boys, 8&5, in the garage with me but they have 0 interest. My 2yr old daughter, however, is always in there with me with her ear protection on, bangin on something. Ashley along with Anne, April, et al. are doing such a great service just by living your passions and inspiring. Thank you!
I loved this. Not only was it a great portrait of an accomplished craftsperson but it was also a delight to focus on a woman in the shop illustrating there should be no barriers on who gets to indulge in the sweet smell of fresh cut wood and marvel at what gets revealed when the tool is put down. Aside from Ashley's obvious talents across a range of disciplines you couldn't help but feel she is a lovely person we would all be happy to call a friend. Thank you for this.
I appreciate that you demonstrate commitment to something is never easy, but has a reward. I hope you continue to communicate life is meant to be worked at and that you only get out of life what you are willing to put into it. Thank you.
You must be the first Piano Playing, Glass Blowing Wood Turner. It is so great to see someone so happy in what they do. You are a inspiration to the young and old, keep it going. The Woodturning Beekeeper.
Great story! I've followed Ashley for years. She does incredible work and her talent and passion for the trade is one of a kind. It's amazing how life takes you on many paths but the one thing that is consistent if you love what you do great things will come! I've always loved woodworking and creating stuff. I hope to get back to my roots someday. Inspiring story thank you for supporting our art.
Love your passion and determination for art! As an artist who has been raising a family and taking on a role of caregiver which was something I never regret. Now at 60 I can turn back to art. It will be a journey of many new things and trying to find my path.
This was a wonderful video about the AWESOME professional wood turner that no one really hers much of. I for one would LOVE to see some You Tube videos from you, even if they are once every month or two just on tips and techniques. Do you ever combine your craft of glass blowing with woodworking projects? Like make something with a glass dome on top of it? I love see people who have more than one craft combine them together.
I am very impressed that Ashley seemed so serene. Her fine arts background coupled with her hands-on experience in various crafts may have helped her on the path to find meaning in her work.It seems to me she has found a level of contentment that is too rare in this hurry-hurry world.Stay safe, yes you should use the full-face shield if the lathe is turning.
Ashley I have a daughter living in Cary, Nc that turns some with me. I have forwarded this to her. Thank you for the inspiration of lady turners. My father taught me also. Chip Matthews
What a fabulous journey. I really loved your story and i too follow this passion. So wonderful that you are able to inspire future turners especially young women..well done👏👏👏👏
You're still such a beautiful person with passion, determination, and love for sharing your humble beginnings up to the present with the rest of us. Be well!
Hello Ms. Harwood,This is an outstanding video! Quite an impressive collection of lathes! I just started turning a little while ago. I also do scroll sawing and one of these days I would like to combine the two trades. I live in Ladson South Carolina and would like to see you turning. Do you ever do any shows or turning events, or have classes in the Charleston area?
First video I have watched of yours, Im sorry you went to Aussie , I wouldn't wish that on anyone … Thank you for sharing your experiences and expertise ...
Very well done video! Hope to see more like these in the future! My only question - there were obviously a lot of Laguna products in the shots - how much of this was product placement and how much was Ashley's own equipment? Either way, thanks for producing this!
