Stay safe all of you during this crucial part of the process. Not a easy day ahead of you all tomorrow, hope all goes according to plan and that you get over this difficult part of the job without any problems.
Good shout on the soot deposits - but dont forget you are the end terrace here - if all the neighbours done the same with just 1 steel over for the knock through, the whole row can go like a house of cards - this is the main reason you full box frame. They call it lateral stability for the house of cards effect. Great work all of you, this is not an easy task
TALENTED BUILDERS. I am no builder but wowzers. Brilliant guys!! Keep the postive energy going, you are doing a grat. You guys are pros, i cant wait to see the finish!!
Sad i know, but do you ever wonder what the builders who built these old houses looked like and what sort of lives they led, the bricks were laid by someone and that house lived through the blitz and survived. THINK I NEED TO GET OUT MORE HAAAA.
Alexa says 450kgs is 920lbs😉 Being end of terrace you need a steel box frame to support the whole terrace from sliding off to the right. Hope you get it in place before the w/e when the rain is coming.
Please tell me you get anxious doing this? I wouldn’t know where to start 😂 Just ripping the back of a house off like doing up your shoes! Love following these builds, great workmanship!
Another great video. You guys are all very talented. Generally the reason to install a picture frame is to provide lateral support to the building (racking resistance) and / or to disperse the loads over the whole length of the foundation below. I am not aware of not being able to bear on a disused chimney - bricks Afterall are fired in a kiln to harden. You cant bear onto a live chimney - concern over steels being effected by the heat (Building Regs). Keep up the good work
Thanks that make sense about the racking. The chimney is more todo with the mortar than the bricks. In use or not you wouldn’t be allowed to install steel in a chimney as the mortar is too compromised
Really interesting video and great to watch. Just wondering if the neighbour was getting a little nervous as you got close to their side. Great choice of music, sounds a bit like the Fatback band from the 80's
Hi Darren I was wondering why the architect didn't do a complete foundation under the steel box rather than the pad on either side then it would mean that the weight of the steel and the weight of the house would have been spread across the entire back of the house as opposed to just on the pads. I was happy that everything went well and wish you all well for today's task of finishing the rest of it. I think you and the boys need to chill for a few days after that. Donal
As you are looking at the back of the house it has two courses of poor looking brick above the bit of wood on the right side, above where the props are. Are those two courses going to be replaced with some of the bricks you now have from the wall demolition?, its been bugging me :-)
