Ian Moore is a flat out musical genius! He's truly a very gifted artist. He performs so many interesting styles of music. I've followed him since his career began and own his entire discography. Great to see him featured. 🎸🤘🎸
One of my all time favorite singer/songwriter guitar players. The dude is criminally underrated and has been doing the damn thing for a very long time.
Man I love Ian's playing and singing so much. His original recording of this song on his first album is one of my top 10 blues ballad songs of all time.
I’ve been a big fan of Ian Moor since the early 1990’s. I saw him about 17 years ago in a small bar in Madison, WI. I’ll never forget, a woman from TX was visiting and she goofed up the time show times due to the time zone difference and missed half the show. For her, Ian Moore did another hour sitting on the stage, acoustic and no mic. due to city sound ordinance. And took requests. It was a fantastic time and shows how much he respects and appreciates his fans. What a fantastic night and a fantastic person. -- Thank you for giving Ian Moore some of the spot light.
You NEED to listen to Ian Moore Live in Austin, especially his version of Blue Sky/Abraham, Martin and John! His solo there is so nuanced and beautiful! He demonstrates how the guitar is an extension of his voice, and expression, as opposed to just a musical instrument!
How in the hell did I not know you made a video about Ian?? Michael.....Ian is the most genuine, emotional, down to earth people you'll ever meet. I had the fortune of meeting him a few times and even had some beers with him. HIGHLY encourage anyone to listen to his stuff.
Finally, some national recognition for Ian. As a fan for 30 years it's so frustrating how little spotlight is on this guy. Unfortunately he doesn't play the east coast often, but when he does I make every show I can. A thousand thanks for putting his name on your channel.
Been an Ian Moore fan since the early 90's and have seen him live countless times. He is such a dynamic performer, putting all his heart into every show. On top of that he's a great story teller and man has he got some stories. He's approachable, engaging and always has a few minutes to talk. Class act all around.
Thank you for introducing people to Ian. My best friend’s brother snuck me into my first bar to watch Ian Moore in 1996 when I was 16. The women were going crazy until he took the stage. The place went quiet because it was the first show after he cut off his hair. You could feel the disappointment.
I had to chuckle when you said a little Stevie in there. Back when Ian debuted that’s how they had him pegged. Austin. The hat and the boots and the strat - all of it. You could tell that’s where they wanted him to be. But he ended up going in his own beautiful direction. He always could and still can rip electric blues for sure. But his own personality came out in a big way.
Thats absolutely right. Antone's wanted the "next" SRV so any guitar slinger in Austin got put in a box with regards to what the labels would let them put out, how they looked, how they sound, etc. Ian was one of these, but also Kenny Wayne Shephard, Eric Johnson (kinda), Doyle Bramhall II, David Grissom, Charlie Sexton, and many others. Ian wanted to write and sing and play a huge variety of stuff and not just be known for "Jesus Crossed the Rio Grande". I have had the pleasure of seeing Ian a couple of times do these smaller acoustic shows and he blows me away every time. Truly an incredible talent.
Wow...I've played this song for years, but never like THIS! Ian Moore...first time I saw him was as a maybe 17 yr old playing the little Black Cat Lounge on 6th in Austin in the early 90's. Sat and chatted with him for an hour after a show at Caravan of Dreams in Ft Worth. Unfortunately he got sidled with the "next SRV" moniker...and I think it weighed on him a bit...he loved him dearly. Love his first couple of albums. Satified, Paint Me A Blue Sky, and Muddy Jesus are phenomenal and immediately come to mind when I think of Ian. Great dude, immense talent.
The star of this take on Satisfied is not Ian's playing, it's his vocals. Such an immensely thick and powerful vocal performance. He has tube-like thickness to his voice.
Ian is incredible! I went to a concert of his back in the 90's. His guitar never stopped playing for like 3 hours. If the next song was in a new key he would modulate into the next key and hit the ground running. It was an incredible night.
I am from Austin Texas and met him at a music rehearsal place called space. I wanted to play keys when I was younger after seeing him at Steamboat. He was super chill guy and even took a picture with me. He is a legend here and plays great shows. If you have a chance to him you should do it.
Ian Moore Action Company Live Via Satellite was an earth shattering album for me. His vocal and guitar work during that show are other worldly. I got to see him on tour supporting that album in a small club in Seattle. Life changing
Wow. A bit on Ian Moore. Fantastic musician and songwriter.....and one of the most expressive vocalists around. Been following him for years, glad to see him profiled here.
Great breakdown. I’ve been watching this video the last several years trying to understand the secrets to soloing with chord changes. I’m further along thanks to you. Ian was arguably an heir to the throne of SRV at one point (serious blues chops on his first self titled album) but he took a detour down the songwriting path and even refused to play “Satisfied” for several years. He’s since reconciled with his past life much to the delight of his fans. His album “And all the colors” is a masterclass in effects pedal usage. The last track “Fickle” is similar to this video in that it’s primarily vocals over some incredibly well crafted jazz chords. So good.
I've been a fan since the early 90's & I saw him live in a bar in Dallas around 99. I was expecting to hear rockin' blues songs from the first couple albums & this show was the release of the 'Ian Moore's Got The Green Grass' album. I was completely caught off guard. It was different & amazing. Everyone needs to listen to Satisfied & Blue Sky from his first album, then go listen to a few songs from Green Grass. Maybe start with Many Rivers, Closer & Beautiful Light. Ian is a MONSTER talent.
Ian’s Modern Day Folklore album is one of my favorites of ALL TIME! I saw him live on that tour & it was one of the best shows I’ve EVER seen. He & his band blew the doors off the place. Then he quieted down & has been laying low.
I love Ian Moore, he can smoke on an acoustic like on this song, right into an electric fireball like Jesus crossed the Rio Grande. Then throw in his vocals , wow.
my first night in Austin i saw him play at the black cat then crashed on his couch. Friends with his brother. been watching him since 86 when he played for tips
First, I am stoked that someone sent this your way. Like many here, I have followed Ian since the 90's, definitely an all-time favorite. I had to chuckle a little, he is an amazing guitar player in every regard but people always, ALWAYS, are amazed by his voice! Thanks for sharing!
I saw him in 2007 with my dad, and we were both really taken with him. I've been listening to two of his CDs for ages, and no one I know has ever heard of him. Thanks for showing him to new listeners!
Ian is the $hit, been listening to him since his debut 30 years ago, yeah, count 'em three-zero. His double stops on the outro solo of "How Does it Feel' will melt your face off... and the dude can really sing. He is one of those truly gifted Austin guitar players.
Michael, I picked up Ian Moore's self-titled album released in '93, merely by chance at a small record store up in New Hope, PA. Just browsing around the store I came across his CD and by the cover is how I decided to purchase it. It's an image of him sitting there with his guitar, and I thought hmm this has got to be a pretty good guitar album if he's promoting it by his name as the title and only him on the front sitting there with his guitar? I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to it and it quickly became one of my favorites. Great player and as you said a great voice as well. I suggest you give that whole album a listen, if you will. You won't regret!
Been listening to Ian since the mid 90s and man can he tear it up live. Great seeing you break down this song. One of my favorites of his is Fickle. Check it out.
Thank you! Big Ian Moore fan and the album version of this is carried by the piano (great version). Have always wanted to play this song as it’s my fav Ian song. Saw him when he still lived in Austin… it wouldn’t surprise me if he knew SRV back in the day. I also recommend How Does It Feel and Blue Sky. 🙏
Worked in Houston in late 90’s had the pleasure of seeing Ian Moore there and in Austin, man what a vocal, songwriting and musical talent most of all he can play the hell out of the guitar. He runs an annual songwriting workshop in Texas though likely sold out this year. He does advertise one on one virtual lessons His first two albums so bluesy, he was talked about as the next SRV but went in a different direction.
Incredible live version of his cover of “champagne and reffer”. Look it up. He’s quite young back from the club days in the 90s. He has always been one of my favorite players.
Ian is fantastic! If you haven’t checked out Pony Bradshaw yet (“Van Gogh” and “10x10” are great) give a listen and see what you think. And, if you’ve got time for a riot of a song that’s well-played and the lyrics are dark, funny, and creative: James McMurtry’s “Choctaw Bingo” is a great driving tune. Enjoy.
My lord, saw this guy in El Paso, Texas back in 1995. Great show, with Tea Party opening. Unfortunately, you don't let Tea Party open for you. Show ends there.
Ian's "Modern Folklore" album is amazing. But the follow-up albums "And All The Colors" and "Via Satellite" (live) are unbelievable. He didn't like being pigeonholed as a SRV successor , so the style advances significantly. For me, an amazing track is the cover of "Many Rivers to Cross" from the Ian Moore's "Got the Green Grass" album. Highly recommended. The live track "Muddy Jesus" from Via Satellite incorporates Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" an amazing performance.
Help me out. I learned the record version way back in the 90s and everything was copasetic. However, when I tried playing it today, I could not remember what the chord at 1:58 is where the shuffle goes back to the turnaround. When I learned it way back, I knew the chord shape but didn't know names. Now I can't remember what that chord is. Sounds like some sort of C....not Cm. Help please ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v-WJ5Pg1wUs.htmlsi=FlX1_vgk_VTKdTzb Never mind...sounds like C dim
An Ian video?!? Oh man, finally! Watch his live at Steamboat video from '96 in Austin. Incendiary with "Today" a particular highlight. Watching him back in the 90s was a life changing experience for my playing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_bYs_qjTxrs.html
Great voice, nice playing... but he would drive a rhythm section crazy. The tempo is all over the place, and im not sure if he even counts bars. Doesn't take away how great he is, but i see why he is a solo act.
He’s not playing with a rhythm section, therefore being a musician and knowing that, he doesn’t give a rip about the timing. He’s free to play whatever he wants without stepping on anyone’s toes. He’s had incredible bands and does just fine, just fine.
