From what I remember ,there was a pretty big issue about that a few years ago. Jong Kook and Ji Hyo were “removed” from the RM cast without them knowing about it, the PD in charge back then just made the decision on their own . Amidst that , there were rumors about Hodong replacing the “kicked out” members, this was never officially confirmed but there may be some truth about it since JK brought it up. The reaction of the public was negative to it and it was even officially announced that RM was going to end. Obviously , that did not happen since the members wanted the show to continue for longer. The PD who caused that controversy left the show , some new cast members were introduced instead of removing the original cast , and the rest is history.

The article written as if KJK and SJH resign from the show to focus at their own career. Turns out it was all lie. Even Jihyo found out that thru' the news. They got fired out of nowhere. Public turns sour. And started to attack SBS online. Head of VS dep had to apologize personally to KJK and SJH (as he should) because SBS'share also started to crumble

It's just a trending topic between netizen and they decided to turn that into something funny. As far as I know, Kang Hodong once was also titled as Nation's MC, but then YJS name got bigger and then with the scandal going on their difference also got bigger. Now it just turns into a running joke.
