I have long believed that the best teachers are those people who, at one time, struggled with a particular subject and overcame it. And are then very articulate, patient and able to describe the learning process to others. Keep up the great work. And, because I've heard you mentioned it before, don't feel that you will isolate your beginner students by getting into more intermediate and advanced stuff. Your teaching style is very rare and you could do excellent work at bridging the Gap between beginning, intermediate and advanced. None of these groups of individuals will feel abandoned or betrayed, they will feel grateful to have a bridge to the next level.

Thank you very much for that, Bryan. I have been thinking quite a bit about which way to go with this channel.

@@QrooSpanish If you cover every level with the same style you have, sir, you will well-serve all your viewers. The way you repeat yourself with examples, concentrating on one topic is effective and one-of-a-kind.

It helped me to think of the 'lo' in 'lo que' as meaning 'the thing'. - 'Lo que' = 'the thing that'. - 'Lo que más quiero es una amiga' = 'the thing that I most want is a friend'. - 'Lo que menos me gusta es la comida picante' = 'the thing I like least is spicy food'. Of course, you could just think of 'lo que' in these examples as meaning 'what', but this meaning of 'lo' can be extended to other use cases: - 'Lo útil' = 'the useful thing'. - 'Lo mas sensato seria volver a casa' = 'the simplest thing would be to go home'.

En Chile también se diferencia el oir del escuchar, de hecho cuando alguien está hablando y siente que no le estás poniendo atención te pregunta "¿me estás oyendo o me estás escuchando?".. 'oir' es lo que haces sin esfuerzo, 'escuchar' es cuando pones atención

Hi there. I have been trying to teach myself Spanish for about 2 years - not very consistently - and a few months ago took a class. I was given a placement test and was deemed on the cusp of advanced and intermediate. Perhaps it’s because I have been exposed to Spanish since I was a kid and many words and phrases are familiar to me, but to this day I find it difficult to string sentences together. My comprehension is far better than my verbal skills. After watching some of your classes, I learned that what I need to work on is the speed of my command of the language (sort of like increasing the RAM of my computer) - and your plug-in technique, I think, is very effective. Your “Lo que,” “Avísame,” “En cuanto a…” etc. is the key to accessing the stash of vocabulary and phrases I learned or memorized. The exercises I believe are most helpful. Thank you!
@QrooSpanish

I saw your other video where you said lo que can be thought of as "that which." In all the videos I've watched it was always referred to as meaning "what" in a non-question sense. Even though I knew what it meant in some usages I had to think about it for a second to get what the speaker or sentence actually meant. Always thinking about it in the "that which" sense has made a world of difference for me. Thanks.

I have trouble sorting out what word to use for "about". Here you used "de" at 6:52. "sobre" is sometimes used for about, and then there is the two word "acerca de" which is what I guessed at on this example.
@QrooSpanish

I can see where this might be confusion. Sobre and acerca de in that context would be more like "relating to." Quiero hablar contigo sobre (acerca de) lo ocurrido ayer.

I have just learned the phrase "o sea" which translates to "I mean", but I think it's more of a filler word in a fast moving conversation. (Example: "Sí, o sea, siempre está tan bien vestida, ¡todos los días!") As for "Lo que"...I had asked my Spanish tutor (who lives in Mexico City) about "lo que" and when to use it. He thought about it and then asked me what I thought it might mean in English and I simply stated "I think that it means "that which". (He does speak a B2 level of English) He thought about it for a few minutes and then said, "I don't think I have ever used "that which" in an English sentence. So, I gave him some examples in English. I guess it can go both ways. We're basically learning from each other at this point. Anyway, just an aside of sorts. Thank you for your videos! Love 'em!
