Listening to Art in the middle of the night via an AM network station, while being all alone in a deserted and desert location, laying in bed with a portable radio sitting on your chest, during the years he was at the height of his popularity, plus the way he presented his show, plus the way he put it all together. It is like trying to find another human with his exact fingerprints. It was near perfect and will never be duplicated. Someone, some day, may come up with something different or perhaps even better in its own way, but there will never again be another Art Bell and his uncanny way of talking about the world of paranormal...making you grateful that the sun came up in the next few hours.
Indeed. He was one of the all time greats. Right up there with rush and paul harvey. And his interviewing skills were second to none. I didnt like the space alien content or the woo woo content, but i still listened just for the quality of the show.
It's a Class A station, 6 Kw ERP. You should see the other station in town. KACP is a Class C1, 25 Kw ERP but it's only horizontal polarization with a 6 bay antenna on a 100 ft. telephone pole. Both signals get out about the same, KACP fades out along Hwy 160 sooner because it's further north and east than KNYE so terrain blocks it sooner.
Art Bell's intention was to build the station to just serve the Pahrump Valley, not become a rimshot into Las Vegas. He wanted local radio to serve the Pahrump Valley and KNYE has done this admirably.
