‘Ko te puru Tokatoka’ precedes the Tūhoe Haka ‘Ko te puru’ by at least 65yrs. Tūhoe version circa 1864 composed in response to colonial invasion. Ngāti Whātua/Te Roroa version circa 1807 used before a battle. Recited before the ‘Battle of Moremonui’.
