Kobe and Shaq were dominant but Kobe and Pau are my favorite duo of all time. Pau running the high post was like watching art in the making. Hall of famer for sure
Can't argue with that duo. Mine will probably always be Nash and Amare...they were so ahead of their time (with the fast pace offense) and Amare was a BEAST. Granted it was pretty one way...but Nash made assists cool again.

Pau was Kobe's Scottie Pippen. He couldn't have asked for a better #2 chemistry wise. The fact they spoke in Spanish to hide their intentions from opponents is friggin awesome. Also an example of Kobe (wisely) using his background to give him a competitive edge.
Still have a Pau jersey, will always be one of my favorite Lakers, even if he plays for the Spurs now. Kobe and Pau should be up there with Kareem and Magic and Shaq and Kobe for best Lakers duos.
Favorite duo of all time, watching kobe and pau growing up is what got me into basketball. Kobes biggest weakness was trusting his teammates, but u can tell he trusted pau w the rock 100%

Great 2 man game. Beautiful pick and roll. Pick and pop. Give and go. Fundamental basketball. They tried to call Pau soft. That’s not soft that’s pure basketball. And he still banged it up with Celtics. 2 rings 3 appearances with cuts and bruises.
@@delphiallera5516 There is some truth to that. Kobe helped all those guys get tougher. Outside of Ariza and Metta who were always gritty. Plus those years getting swept in Memphis also contributed. Whatever it was nobody could call him soft by 09-10

I am a fan of kobe and shaq, but this kobe and pau tandem, i love this so much, its definitely in my top 3 favorite tandem, its such a thing of beauty watching this two play together, and i was so happy when i learned that there relationship is beyond basketball, its so good to see two great friends becoming brothers, and i was so touched of how pau honored kobe and gigi's legacy. Rip black mamba ang gigi along with the other passengers.

I remember living in LA and we got word of the trade after all the drama of Kobe potentially leaving. Than they signed Pau. I was like oh shit.. they going to the finals..
The fine details are the most impressive... how Kobe always hits Gasol high in the hands with perfect accuracy so it takes half a second for Pau to dunk it
Kobe is rarely mentioned as a good passer but maybe his passing was Just proportional to the trust and the respect he had and played for the player receiving the ball.. he didnt like Shaq, because he didnt train hard. Looking back these old images looks like he never thinks twice when it's time to pass the ball to Pau, even when Pau clearly occupies a space where Kobe his moving to...
Correct, the ball hog narrative hurts kobe because most people are lazy and just go with narratives instead of truly studying the game. Kobe was a great passer. Phil jackson said he was a better playmaking than mj.
he's always been a good passer. he just wasn't asked to pass a lot. Early in his career with Shaq it was the triangle where the bigs touch the ball a lot and pass out of it, thus why Shaq had great passing numbers. Phil later came back and they did the triangle again but now with Gasol. People tend to forget that throughout his career in LA he was usually somewhere between 1-3 on the team on assist by seasons end, every year... they just see all the shots he took and think he never passed.

He was a great playmaker when needed to be, he read the defense like a point guard and had passing skills in his arsenal that would match those of Nash and Kidd, but that was not his job 90% of the time. The exact same thing with Kobe. Both of them could nail a pass while spinning and faking a layup in the middle of the air, looking some place else, yet the ball reached their teammates hands and nobody knew how. They were really equals.
Gasol making kobe look like magic johnson with those passes. Kobe was usually ball dominant but pau opened the door to kobe’s passing because their level of trust to each other is so much.
The reason why they worked so well because pau didn’t have an ego .. he just wanted to win rings he didn’t mind not being the guy an accepted that but wasn’t a pushover he just wanted to win an I can respect that whole heartedly he’s a winner not an ego driven “look at me I’m the man an I’m the reason or a big part as to why we won the ring !!!” He didn’t give a fuck about that
I remember having to suffer watching Kwame Brown fumble passes and miss free throws playing for the Lakers, and then having him traded for probably the complete opposite player in Pau Gasol. Once Pau Gasol made his debut, it was like night and day seeing such a competent offensive weapon and a great compliment to Kobe's game.
