power of a mind isnt a natural gift my friend. Its something you can cultivate it doesn't take days or months it takes years. Kobe worked hard for years. No one knows the true power of your body and mind.
Saying Kobe didn't have great physical attributes is crazy. Kobe was a better in game dunker than 98% of the nba right now. Kobe is always compared to Vince and MJ in terms of athleticism, but there aren't too many players that were athletic like them in the history of the NBA. Today Anthony Edwards is always hyped as this athletic freak, but I've never seen him pull off the level of dunks Kobe did in-game.
ur probably right, but im not sure if this one is 'idiotic' tho, id say this story is pretty true for the most part, kobe wasn't relatively special compared to the rest of the NBA physically, he just word hard and had probablly much high talent and iq for the game.
@@drewsipherthehedgehog388 bro you dont become the 13th overall pick as a high school player unless you are a special talent... now mind you the 96 draft was one of the most stacked classes in nba history so in most other years Kobe would have easily gone top 10 or even higher but to say that he was this hard worker who had no talent to rely on is simply not true 🤷♂️
Perfect example. That’s why Kobe is so great, he was the Honda accord in an under ground street race that won first place 5x by how much work he put in.
LeBron's vertical in his prime was 40. Thanks to better techniques/science (and likely PEDs), he got it up to 44. People overlook Kobe's finesse and dexterity.
Kobe was a true student of the game … his intensity was his strength , his need to be the best at his game is what made him special… he never stopped searching to be better .
Kobe was dedicated to the game of basketball more than anyone and moreso dedicated to ensuring his own legacy and greatness vs Jordan who compulsively wanted to win at everything. If Jordan trained as hard as Kobe, MJ would have had the time to maybe develop a 3pt shot…MJ dragged Kobe out to the golf course to play 2 rounds of 18 after practice that began at 8am so he could get out in time, Kobe would just get injured… same with Lebron. MJ freak of nature that in no way lacked work ethic. Kobe needed that wake up 4am 3 practice sessions a day. Don’t get my wrong, I put him above Lebron with 5 rings only 2 Finals losses during a Spurs and Mavs and Golden State, Houston, OKC era in the west and Boston first super team
He is right Kobe was average in almost every category except his mentality and work ethics. He was 6’4.5, average hands, not strong as MJ in upperbody, vertical 38’ which is average, not very fast. Mindset was his strongest part
Kobe was 6'6 tho. but agreed with the rest, this is why Lebum will never be ahead of Kobe. If he had Kobes mindset, he'd be the greatest of all time. Mind over body.
@@whoknows20232 sorry but lebron is ahead of Kobe. Numbers don’t lie. You don’t have the longest peak in sports history without a strong mind. The hate goes deep.smh
You know how many times I’ve pointed this out and got clowned for it? Well, here it is from a former NBA star who played against Kobe. He’s 100% right.
Kobe's Heart, Will & Determination,No Excuses Attitude, The Love for the Game,Fear of Losing, his name bein in place, in history above who've he deemed the best basketball player to ever play da game.
That’s a beautiful explanation of who Kobe was. Great Gilbert! I love it. It’s like a human being who tore the GODS apart. Love it❤ RIP KOBE AND PRINCES G.
That's dumb as sh*t. Kobe was taller than Jordan w/ a damn near 40 in vert. There isn't a world that exists where he wasn't quick or fast. He also began lifting sooner than Jordan did to build strength. Y'all all sound stupid.
Truth. But talent + hard work + greatness. And Kobe was great at his craft. Sure he didn't have hands like Mike but his hands were bigger than Lebrons. Real talk. Kobe WAS talented too, don't let anyone say otherwise.
You call that RESILIENCE!!! He had that. Resilience is the process and outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences, especially through mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility and adjustment to external and internal demands.
Kobe did have a standing reach of 8'9.5" though. That is definitely elite tier for a 6'6 NBA player. It's about the same as LeBron who is 2 inches taller and has a longer wingspan. High set shoulders help a lot.
I met Kobe many times in Newport Beach...and everytime I met him....he didn't look intimidating at all....in fact he looked very thin and didn't look that tall in real life....he almost looked like a abover average tall regula person....if I didn't know him I would think he was just a tall person in real life....and this was 2005 PRIME PRIME KOBE DROPPING THOSE CRAZY NUMBERS.....so yea Kobe was all hard work and learned skill. Not GOD GIFTED.
In some cases, being gifted with athletic abilities is sometimes taken for granted. Kobe worked hard and created exceptional abilities through passion and desire... that's the real "Mamba Mentality"....
Yall he ain't saying Kobe wasn't athletic. He is pointing out that compared to some of the other greats he was a bit lacking in some areas physically but because his killer mentality he now sits in the All Time Greats table.
😂… that’s pretty standard among nba players. Nothing about Bean was standard in the real world. I’d even venture to say he was upper half in terms of athleticism in the league. I understand what Gil is saying, but he’s putting a little extra on it.
Basically Kobe was able to surpass his potential tenfold because of his dedication to the game and his willingness to fight through adversity. That’s what made him so great.
Let’s also not act like LeBron didn’t just came into the league and was what? 18? 19? I’ve seen people try and throw shade pretending LeBron was all in his prime and couldn’t get things done in the Olympics, etc. like bro just hit the league and his first time ever being there, chill. 😂
This is horseshit. Kobe was VERY gifted athletically. He had big time hops. He was VERY quick and stealthy agile. He was 6-6”. Broad shoulders. Elite hand eye coordination. He worked super hard yes. But alot of guys do. Hey was extremely gifted physically
Kobe was not that quick even when he was young, he learned which angles to attack the basket in which made it seem like he was quicker than he was, also he didn’t just work hard he worked harder than anyone. Yes he was incredibly gifted compared to humans but not compared to other SG in the NBA
@@manumalia I don’t know man. He flew through the air as high and as powerful as any of them. He finished with grace and power around the rim. I always felt he had elite athleticism. Maybe not Jordan or Lebron or TMac level - but that’s the pinnacle
You could see Kobe's passion each and every time he stepped on the court. When you can see the passion in ones eyes about something, it sometimes intimidates people so alot of Kobe's opponents were already defeated because they couldn't match his passion.
Kobe was the embodiment of passion for what you love and doing whatever it takes to win. Didn’t care about money or anything like that. He just wanted championships
It's not just that...he practiced hard never took his talent for granted and made life easier for teammates by playing off ball being a shooter and passing when he could shoot more and taking the pressure off guys with double teams
Kobe had alot of natural gifts. Very explosive and athletic, some of the best dunks I've ever seen. Hell of a first step as well. 38 inches is very very good, but he was also very explosive naturally too and agile
Kobe and a select few are the best in this sport! My starting five . Wilt, Duncan, Lebron, Jordan, and Kobe. 2nd team. Kareem, Bird, KD, Wade, Magic. 3rd team. Shaq, Nowitski, Dr.J, Barry, Curry.
Agreed. When mj first came in he was so ahead of his time. Now you see average joe and 15 years old year jumoing out of the gym. Back when i watch 90s and 2000s. Alot of people doesnt have left hand finish, sidestep or stepback moves. Kobe every year has added new moves into his arsernal. And curry.... with his small physique and mediocre athletism and ankle. He managed to dominate the world.
kobe is someone who is pushing his limits. thats why no one can guard him other than jordan. i dont see any natural talent kobe have, the only thing he had was pure skills and mentality that separates him to anyone in the league right now
