For the latest edition of Google ATAP Ambient Experiments we partnered with Christelle Kocher and presented our collaboration during the KOCHÉ fashion show at #ParisFashionWeek.
The collaboration includes 4 hybrid pieces, combining Ambient Computing, craftsmanship, technology, and modern design. After thousands of hours of engineering and hand work, each of them transforms by reacting to sensors, touch, or light.
Our Soli radars added an interactive dimension to the show, enabling interactions between the models, the show space and the audience. Each element influenced the others with its presence or movement, redefining the possible interactions between people, clothes, and machines. As a result, the garment became connected to its environment: it transformed the environment and was transformed by it.

I've had shirts with embedded LEDs and animations. Very cool, but also a pain to wash. Solve that problem as well if you want a market.

Koche ridiculously expensive, would be nice to see Google ATAP partner with a more "grassroots" clothing supplier next time.

They've been trying to make interactive garments for decades. It was interesting when it was used for displaying data activism, then it seemed to take a wrong turn towards Corporate innovation (novelty fetishism) following lots of dodgy experiments. Here it looks like it's trying to be couture, by people who can't speak comprehensible english. What did they actually say? Better off speaking French and adding subtitles.
