This company isn't a "mini society", it's a cult. I'm from Wichita and I've watched friends and other acquaintances get sucked into that world and change, not in a good way. The "fortress" is necessary to protect company secrets but also because they're hated by so many people and receive death threats. The grandkids go to private school in Wichita and have to have bodyguards accompany them to school and Charles Koch's estate, while it doesn't quite look like a fortress, is walled and highly surveilled. I'm sure he has 24/7 security on staff, too. I can't imagine having to live that way.
We (theoretically) give politicians power in a democracy, thus corporations lobby for their own interests. Politicians are mostly concerned with re-election through money from corporate lobbying at this point, so are politicians bowing to corporate power because the politicians have too much power, or have corporations hijacked that power through lobbying?
So one might ask why people just keep wanting more money and can never seem to have enough. Its like hoarding its all based in fear of not having enough and this becomes normalized and accepted and admired but its just a disease.
"based in fear" The Koch family's is based in total rejection of responsibility, and resentment there is a backstop: government. They feel they've the right to pollute grounds and water, to chemically taint and kill employees, etc. Dark Money, by Jane Mayer. Koch employee to another, (paraphrased) a human life is only worth a damage award, which is less than operating without safety or health regulation compliance. This goes way beyond simple hoarding, its pathological. What surprises me is their purchase of government phrased as "influence" and not what it is, corruption.
i experience this as a very useful insight into donald trump, steve bannon et al and their relationship with ayn rand’s equally germanic point of view.
Did Charles Koch and his associates commit ecocide ? The International Criminal Court is being called on to prosecute the organized crime, corporate leaders and politicians causing extensive wanton damage to our environment for acts of ecocide. Ref Stop Ecocide International
Bringing a case against C.K. would be difficult even if the evidence were overwhelming, which I would guess that it is. Why? Because he has enough money to buy his way out, and even if somehow convicted, what would a hundred million bucks buy Koch in the way of armed guards? That answer could be provided by Erik Prince of Blackwater, Betsy Devos's brother, all active members of the USA's white supremacist cabal (& don't forget Dubya and Trump).
My son worked for David Koch for a bit and because he is a small business owner, David was nice to him. He had the ability to act like a regular guy. But Charles remains extremely destructive.
The epitaph should read: "Corrupter of American democracy, degrader of American infrastructure, environmental despoiler, financier of lies who destroyed the concept of public health during a global pandemic".
Go build your own enterprise and run it in a way that aligns with your values - this sounds like it may have been put together to cater to Bernie Sanders supporters ? I hear threads of socialism in the presentation and questions ?
The problem with Charles Koch's vision is that it's HIS vision. If you have a Destiny this sounds like slavery. I'd rather have FREEDOM than live with the vision that Charles Koch has.
There is an epidemic of cynicism in the United States wrought by overlooked mental illness. It does not matter that she is a self proclaimed liberal, what matters is that she is an intellectual with a cynicism problem just like RFK Jr.
Rosa Koire is awful, she was a right wing extremist who reminds me of the anti-vaxxers. I trust actual scientists and not a commercial real estate agent.
@RED PILL PORTAL good god you’re so beyond help. “Globalist” is the term used by people who typically fall into one or more of the following groups: racist, white supremacist, libertarian ideologues, etc who are too stupid to realize that the Koch bros fund the ppl who spew their idiotic ideology. Talk about misdirection!
I guess I'll have to read this book. It seems like the kind of book many Americans should read, especially Republicans. Maybe then they would understand how Americans are being deluded.
@BCMortgage Read "Dark Money" by Jane Mayer. These people have an evil philosophy, and if you understood that, you'd understand that you are one of the people he and his kind view as expendable units to be used to make rich people even richer. You'd also understand that they are people who firmly believe that the govt. shouldn't shouldn't interfere (i.e. regulate) at all in business and financial matters, and yet go to the govt. to use it to buy legislation that allows them to avoid paying taxes and avoid safety regulations.
@@franriding6473 Thank you! Seriously, read the Jane Mayer book if you can. James Patterson couldn't write the kind of stuff that these people have done.
@RED PILL PORTAL the koch brothers describe themselves as right wing libertarians. they use dark money to subvert the political system for their own ends. Where is the misdirection?
Neoliberal economic policies have never worked anywhere. The Chicago boys were run out of Chile, the so-called free market experiment in Iraq bombed literally and figuratively and recently in Central America. The result is always a few rich people and nightmare social decay for everyone else.
No one is complaining about that part. The problem is when they rig the system they so publicly pretend to despise to benefit themselves and hurt others. They are drunk with power and influence.
im suffering cognitive dissonance ...the 10 principles are all about integrity, honesty, sticking to the law and sharing information. if koch was built on these principles then....why all the issues.? staff surely do not embrace these principles 100 percent ..maybe 2 percent.
@Ana K yes but this journalist has fallen for all kochs nonsense..he said something about ...one thing that struck him was how the company adhere to the laws and principles...
The problem is that they define integrity, honesty, etc. in terms of what works for THEM, no one else. And they may say they are founded on honesty and sticking to the law - they're not honest, otherwise they wouldn't be so rabid about security and keeping their political activities and purposes secret.
