My grandfathers house still has the original hot and cold turning handles in the wall from 1942. Grandparents were newlyweds in that house my mom and seven brothers and sisters grew up in that house I grew up in that house along with a mixture of 27 other grandchildren in and out and my children grew up in that house are using that shower fixture. My grandfather was a plumber he showed me how to replace those rubber and leather gaskets when I was about 10 years old. And I showed my son just a few years ago how to change those gaskets when he was 28 years old. They just don’t build them like they used to. I guess by the time my new grandson is 12 I will be showing him how to replace those gaskets in that shower wall fixture
The Kohler shower valve in our bathroom is quite different and so far not covered here on youtube. It is a "shower only" type valve similar to Kohler part # K-8304-KS. There is no tub/bath faucet. It is only 5 years old and leaking through the shower head.
Same parts that we have on all the showers in the hotel I work only difference is a more fancy handle outside, most of the time what I find is the hot side on the inside part is clogged with small piece of rubber. One valve have problem and it cause problem on the entire riser.
the balance cart used to come with a tiny pill capsule of silicone grease, the old ones version anyway. over the years I've never had a cap valve come apart like that, then again it's mostly delta and moen around here and symmons in commercial places (hotels and others) blargh, I seen you showed the lube capsule shortly afterwards lol.
Thank you for this video! Call someone...been there done that and now my water pressure is WAY LOWER than before the plumber replaced the cartridge(same parts you used). 20psi lower in shower only! House remained fine. Temp also won’t get hot. Rest of house, still fine. After checking everything else, all roads lead to replacing the cartridge... So now with my new GP876851 the someone I am calling is me!! 🙏🙏🙏 Do you know if there is anything I should do extra take sure I get my normal water pressure back? Thank you also for the tips when turning main back on. Thanks again!
FFS Dave I'm watching you doing stuff at your on house.. And i got tons of work at my own house.. Are you trying to make me feel bad😩😩😩 But your DIY videos are still better than most refrigeration videos out there🤣🤣🤣
Who's got time to clean.. the 49ers are in the superbowl...that's all that matters baby.. call who you want I'm going to Miami he says. I know your a happy camper. Best of luck to your team. As I said before..i gotta root for the Chiefsdue to all the Birds ties. Be safe brotha Dave. Have a great night
I think mine is bad too. I looks like the same style. I have no hot unless I go all the way up then I get scolding hot so then I have to go back down to get warm water. If you just go up front he bottom to your normal temp you would use you get zero hot water. Then if you go all the way up then back down if you go too low you lose warm water and have to go all the way back up.
How did u take the last o-rings? Off? I got the first piece then the piece behind it. The o-ring thing is set back a bit. I don’t know how to get that off?
also, on that new version pressure balance cartridge, they have "tiny holes" that pass the water, so it's more flow limited! I'm sure that had something to do with stoogefornia government..........
@@NorCal-refrigeration Thanks for replying so quickly. I was afraid of that. Someone filled that with caulking. You don't happen to remember what size allen key?
Love moen valves just based on they never change there cartridge designs . their is only 2 different types unlike other brands u have to keep many different parts . also the Moen is very easy to change out .
@@jhhvacplumbing1944 wish I would have known that. I bought kohler shower stuff and toilet and sink stuff. Had problems with all of it. Even my toilet was deformed where the tank seal goes and leaked. I’m buying another brand next time.
RIGHT!!! I had my house built 21 years ago. This is my refresher research for my 3rd time replacing the same 2 showers. 2 showers and 1 bathtub all started leaking again at the same time, like they're all on a time to leak timer.
it's always the pressure balance cartridge jammed up causing no hot, the cap assembly(manual valve) rarely ever goes bad, if it does it will keep running/dripping. and you did get the updated supposedly better version, expensive little devils!
@@NorCal-refrigeration - Yes, got the cover off and the screw out, but handle won't come off. Just pull it straight back? Didn't want to break it. Thanks a lot.
She’s a cold one Moma . So you replaced the liquid line selonid valve. Steve lav will give you a job. Wil moma pay you probably not good luck on that one , at least she’s happy nice job
Besides cause problems what does a PBU do? Can't it just be replaced with a solid object with two straight holes drilled through it? Another piece of over-engineered junk! Let ME control the water.
I soaked the PBU in a cup of CLR(Calcium, Lime and Rust Remover). Eventually the plunger/piston got freed up as I poked at it with a long skinny drift-punch. I continued to soak it and worked the plunger , thus getting the CLR into the channels where mineral deposits had formed. The plunger began to slide easily from side to side and the springs kept it centered. I initially was gonna drill out the rivets for a complete disassembly. There seems to be plenty of room to install SS nuts n bolts where the rivets are. Maybe next time.
Works good now with good temperature control for a comfortable water temperature. Now, after reassembly... if the temperatures are backwards, so that hot water comes out first and then cold water comes out when the handle is wide open! The Mixer Cap (the thingy the handle controls) was installed upside down. Take the screws out and rotate it 180º and reinstall. Ask me how I know. DOH!
