KOF: Maximum Impact Story Explained

I know they aren’t everyone’s favorite characters (I mean, I actually like them but whatever) but man, seeing Maximum Impacts ending credits with Alba feeling lost without Soirée always gets me. The fact we still don’t know where he is or if he even still alive hurts even more. I know this series is different from KOF but if they can, I just hope the can reunite the brothers again and hell, make them playable even. I’m sure there’s a way to implement their fighting style into KOF’s gameplay. Thanks for covering this forgotten spin-off, Shoryugame! As always, your lore videos and the quips that comes with it are top notch!

Had to give props to the mocap actors. Especially when it came time to do one of Terry's iconic moves. Both the male and female actors tried to pull off the Crack Shoot. The make actor finally got it about the time they were considering just animating it by computer. That was discussed in the extra disc that came with the deluxe edition.

About time someone finally covered the MI story in detail, i still hope that someday these characters get canonized in order to continue their story

Shoryu *FINALLY* covered the Maximum Impact series! I've waited for this day for so long!! Capcom Vs SNK is the game that introduced me to to SNK in general, it was the Maximum Impact Series that introduced me to KOF so it holds a bit of a special place in my heart. Never actually played the games, but the cast of characters and story drew me in and got me very *invested* into it when I watched a bunch of arcade mode playthroughs back in middle school. I really hope MI gets a MI3 and not hang on a cliffhanger to the end of time like Garou... ...Is what I'd *like* to say then SNK just freaking announced MotW 2!! If that can finally come back after 20+ years I wanna hope Maximum Impact can come back from the grave!!

Shatter all expectations and revive the MI cast!

Maximum impact 2 was the first KOF game i actually owned. The first fighting game in general, actually. I spent a whole summer on it and contributed to my love for this franchise and genre, believe it or not. Going back to it, sure it didn't age perfectly. Clunky gameplay, cheesy dialogues, hilarious english dub... But man, if you tell me they didn't do the best they could with this game, i'll stop talking to you. The amount of content, story bits, backstories, stages, cameos, costumes. This was a very good sub-series. Probably the best one in KOF. I didn't particularly love any original MI character. Even back then i automatically gravitated towards the likes of Terry, Kula, Leona etc. But still, getting some sort of continuation, even just in the form of playable characters in the mainline, would be a dream 🙏

The Meira brothers, Mignion and Ninion Beart, Luise Meyrik, Nagase and Chae Lim are always my favorite characters of the MI Saga. As for the MI franchise well, Shoryu game, apart that MI Regulation A2 was Cancelled, MI3 was also cancelled because that was the last chapter of the MI Saga, SNK was going to make also MI3 and don't forget Jivatma was defeated but not dead just disappeared. His objectiv was to revive or awake a ancient alien or demon by the name Judeim with the help of Alba and Soiree Meira. They have the heritage of that creature. And Judeim must be the last antagonist for MI3. And thats why MI3 was cancelled because is not over yet but still we never have the MI3.

Thanks for covering the story of KOF Maximum Impact, it deserves more recognition even if the gameplay is not the best. You didn't mention the short OVA that was made as prequel to Maximum Impact 2, maybe because it did not focus on the main story or you just didn't know about it, if you don't, give it a watch, you won't regret it.

First Gods (Orochi), then Clones (NESTS), then next is Time Travel (Tales of Ash), then after that there's a Multiverse (Shun'Ei), and now Aliens (Maximum Impact), seriously what's next, Vampires?!? The KOF series gets really ridiculous when coming up with crazy Ideas like this.

About time this spinoff got a video. Thanks for the covering it. I feel like it can be like GTA or Yakuza mixed with DMC/Bayonetta like game as a future IP if you keep the original characters here and all.

Thanks for this video Shoryugame. I hope we get a Team Maximum Impact as DLC for KOF XV next year. Composed by Alba Meira, Lien Neville and Luise Meyrink. Alba is the main hero of that spin off. Lien is the anti-heroine and poster/fanservice gal. Luise is the face of MI2 But most important, I want SNK to continue the MI storyline so Alba can find Soiree. It has been many years 🥺

KOF MI2 is the most underrated entry in the franchise , it's a lot better than people give credit for and deserves more respect and appreciation u know what shoryu ? if you place in the kof games ranking video it will surely rank higher than kof 94 , 95 99 2000 2001 and 2003 (while lower than the rest of course) the endings are good (especially kyo and iori) and try to play challenge and quest survival mode you will have a blast trust me (btw it was this game that introduced challenge mode and not kof XI like most people think since it was released months earlier on the PS2 back in 2006)

The KOF Maximum Impact games have a special place in my heart because thanks to those games I started liking KOF Before that, I wasn't a fan of fighting games (expect Smash Bros. series), I remember playing KOF 95 when I was little but I didn't like it... Many years later when I was in Peru, I found a KOF Maximum Impact Regulation A arcade machine (most likely an illegal one) and I played it and my mind was blowing of how much fun that game was, I still remember the first 3 characters I chose (Kula, Fio and Mai). And that's how my love for KOF started ^_^

Here's an idea: If there ever is a KOF VXI, just use Maximum Impact. That way, you'd make the story and characters canon. The M.I. characters can get redesigns and story can have a conclusion.

Maximum Impact is underrated. What more can I say? I never played them but I have seen footage. I've seen gameplay and it holds up mostly. I only wish SNK can bring these games over to modern consoles along with KOF 11 and 13. There's like no excuse. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for SNK Playmore at the time because man, it's like they really didn't know where to go after being reborn. And the biggest mistake they made was to try to appeal to the West. Because at the time, arcades were pretty much dead and now SNK needed to figure something out so they decide to focus on console gaming and let's just say that it wasn't pretty. It just wasn't period. Nice job with this one. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on what SNK has shown at EVO, especially SamSho with rollback netcode. Honestly it should have had it sooner since KOF XV has rollback.

Part of me wants Luise in KOFXV. Her design is just really beautiful.

Duke was definitely a KOF boss! I actually enjoyed these games a lot they were fun and had some great alternate uniforms.

It was this game ( the 1st MI) that introduced me to KOF in the first place. I'm glad you finally did a video on this!

Great video Shoryu. I always though Alba would be a good fit for the prime KOF universe and even more now that KOF has changed from 2D sprites. I wonder if SNK will ever bring him along? It's hard to say since there are so many characters we want to see in the main series that we probably never will. I still say KOF should make an entire game of side characters. I would play that too!

I'd say, the KOF Maximum Impact Series is apart of my childhood. Truly a uniqie fighting game. I'm so dumb to think back that I only chose female characters to know how jiggle physics work 💀 BUT I WAS STILL A KID! 😐 In any way, this is truly a great lore video and I honestly love your dedication to making SNK related games into story narration. I'm talking about the KOF EX SERIES! There's only two games related in the story, and the fact that it gave birth to 5 exclusive characters and only available on the Game Boy Advance just made it overall interesting. Had a lot of fun with this game back in the day. As Shoryu mentioned, the gameplay and graphics are not that great, but the all the single content the game had was nuts. And to this day the intro for MI2 is the best intro for any KOF game ever!

I was surprisedthere was that level of story here. Granted, I was misled way back when when I thought the 3 on 3 version of MI2 was the sequel, having only rented them out back in the day.

This is the 1st 3rd fighting game I enjoyed at ps2 and arcade back then. I even bought its CDs and mastered all characters' combos. By the way Maximum impact 1 has a manga version, if you want to read just search for it.🤩

You shouldn’t ask for just one more. Someone who reviewed the The Tales of Ash Saga and Maximum Impact Saga said SNK green lit 6 sequels after the first game. But the cancellation might’ve been Flacoon’s fault if he made Maximum Impact 2 be called 2006 in the west because that caused people to believe it was a fake or bootleg since KOF XI was released. SNK kept making mistakes until falling into the pits of a hiatus and pachinko.

Awesome video like always I had a lot of fun with Maximum Impact 2, I was a huge fan of Street Fighter during the time this game came out’ Maximum Impact was my first KOF game I discovered SNK Series at a camp ground that had World Heroes and Art of Fighting, I remember I wanted to play the KOF series I am a huge fan of fighting games.

Thank You for making a detailed video of KOF MI. It doesn't get much love in the lineup. MI2 is my favorite of the two, with all the unlockable characters, and awesome costumes. I always wished SNK would make 2d sprites of Alba, and Soirre for any of the new games.

Okay alien origins aside Alba, Soirée, and Fate give me strong parallels to Terry Andy and Jeff Bogard. Except like a dark counterpart sort of. They even have a Geese in the form of Duke too. Otherwise it quickly becomes its own thing.

There was a KOF Maximum Impact 3. But it was cancelled after it was announced while KOF MI2 was still in development. SNK's ego grew big with the success of part 1, but had a reality check when part 2 didn't sell as well.

Maximum Impact 1 is the first fighting game I've played and the only one I like. Even though playing it hurts my thumb because I try to rub it all over the arrow buttons, trying to activate the supers.

I've been for a long time for this.

Maximum Impact always felt like a snk response to the cancellation of Capcom Fighting All Stars. The Meira Brothers reminded me of B.B. and Rook and having the roster look very similar to Capcom fighting all stars but bigger. And the story is taking place after MOTW similar to FAS that’s take place in the final fight universe.

This was one of my favorite KOF games. Me and my friends waited years before giving up hope we would get the third game. We always thought Soriée got taken by the evil group, would have gotten the memories back and would have been the sub-boss of the game. Would have been epic to see!

If I was in charge of king of fighters, I would’ve put the maximum impact series as its own saga to my own version of king of fighters series. Where it’s set after the Nests saga and it’s set before the tales of Ash saga. Because it canonically makes sense to me. While Kyo and K dash are there. Ash crimson wouldn’t be introduced until the tales of ash saga. So this could’ve brought us this KoF 2002 u m character named Nameless into canon. Maybe the maximum impact saga would be maybe an epilogue to the nests saga or maybe it’s like the nests saga part 2 there. This can explain the alien life that involves a fighting tournament. The connection to the Meira brothers to these alien beings. Why they don’t remember their childhoods. Maybe the remnants of nest had some alien beings involved and nameless would hunt down the traitors of nest despite the leadership being destroyed. K dash, Kula diamond, Angel, and K9999. And also considering that in the kof 2000 south town was destroyed. And there’s a sister city by south town that allowed the south town refugees into their city after the city is a huge ground zero because of a rogue nests clone targeted and destroyed the city with a space laser. This would bring Terry, Ryo, and rock Howard into the fold of this saga. The residents of the fallen south town want to help out their south town citizens to reside better in second south city or eolith city. Ryo lost his father Takuma from the south town destruction. Because he’s too old for king of fighters tournaments in which he could’ve wanted to participate in. After the events of art of fighting. He retired from street fighting and concerned of his dojo. But he died with the dojo along with it. Rock Howard found out about his father geese and that Terry actually killed his father and he’s conflicted and set out his own journey.

I can only think of that one weirdo fan who keeps bringing this game up...

I thought ASH'S Story was Painful. But ALBA ! This Guy is still in Pain. I was hoping to see ALBA ,SOIREE and LIEN in KOFXV but other than SOIREE LUISE or DUKE can also be a better option. By the way ! Do you think SNK will introduce MAXIMUM IMPACT to KOFXV ? One More thing like CAPCOM is making RPG Game including the Story of FINAL FIGHT in the SF6. Do we can see SNK's RPG Game including the Story of MAXIMUM IMPACT ? MAXIMUM IMPACT and FINAL FIGHT can help SNK and CAPCOM respectively to create there own GTA type Game or Sifu or Ninja Gaiden Type Game.
