I love the fact that both of them had their first appearance as Rugal's secretaries in KoF '94 and '95 respectively and then were added as playable characters in '96
Vice and Mature have always been the epitome of cool. Two beautiful but lethal assassins that can kill in an instant. Bringing them back with Krauser would've been very cool.
I'm very excited for City of the Wolves and seeing how Terry is going to look in SF6. If KOF 15 has a season 3, I hope the characters have some street edge to them. I want to see SNK heavily compete with Capcom and Namco. I want more people to play their games like we did back in the 90s.
SNK needs to improve marketing and making better business decisions in the sense of getting some spotlight by taking advantage of every "opening" that happens in the zone of mainstream games (SF and TK). Opening like, Capcom messed up with MvC last time and that helped to give more attention to DBFZ. It's not because SNK is less capable of making detailed realistic graphics... since Arc Systems is the emerging new fg superpower in this generation and they never work with realistic graphics. So it's more that SNK needs to improve a lot in those aspects that are unrelated to game making (sure the graphics actually need to improve too, but those other areas are in bigger need of improving right now).
it would be sick if, once the hakkeshu is complete, they'd also drop the last boss from the Orochi Saga, Orochi himself. We've got Rugal and Goenitz, after all.

Unlikely, but what if it's a two-in-one type of character. Like Noob-Smoke in Mortal Kombat Deception, Ferra/Torr in Mortal Kombat X, or Zato from Guilty Gear.
If there are more dlc chars besides Mature and Vice i'm not counting on SNK investing on "new chars" i.e a brand new model. The duo was already made in KOF 14, so it's easy to just update those models. We must not forget that the focus is FF, according to Oda's own words.

Well Terry and Mai is a Fatal Fury character, not King of Fighters. They more of a "guest" in King of Fighters, in a similar way like Guy and Cody in Street Fighter, as this two is a Final Fight character. Since we have new Fatal Fury game coming soon, my bet we gonna get any Street Fighter in that game...or maybe not as well. I mean remember Tekken add Geese to their game and we got none of Tekken character back in KOF14 or even Samsho.
Well, The King of Fighters is a spin-off based on Fatal Fury. Terry and Mai are not guest characters. You do realize that in 1991, the game was called "Fatal Fury: King of Fighters" (look it up). It was Geese Howard, the boss from Fatal Fury, who organized the first King of Fighters tournament. The King of Fighters is meant to be a continuation of the Fatal Fury story, but its success led SNK to treat it as a separate IP and make it SNK Fighter, which explains why Samurai Shodown and Metal Slug characters appear in King of Fighters.
To me Ryu and Guile are pretty bad choices for KOF when we start thinking about how they would fight in the game. SF and KOF are very different fgs. Chun Li is ok but only if it's her SF5 or SF6 version, because of her moveset changes. In the case of SF, Terry and Mai are actually fine choices because the own game's mechanics won't clash too hard with their gameplay.
I'm glad SNK is doing a COTW showcase tournament. That is smart of SNK to have a tournament so generate hype especially if you have known players playing it. Very excited for this weekend for more COTW announcements. The game just cannot arrive too soon. Also as for a new character for COTW. I think SNK should create a femme fatale/anti hero female like Vice, Mature, Juri and AKI for the Fatal Fury Franchise. I did notice AOF and Fatal Fury doesn't have female characters like these and it would be nice to see.
Good idea. The thing is that until the modern era of the SF franchise (SF4 onwards) it also didnt have that type of female char. And FF is also from the 90s and had a good deal of SF influence. I think that type of female became more popular in japanese games only around the late 90s or 00s... and FF and SF were already dieing or dead. KOF maybe was the only big fg with those kind of chars like Vice and Mature, but even so Mature is kind of tame compared to Juri. Only Vice was already notably crazy. So even SNK in general wasnt much warmed up to the idea in that time. Like, they made actual female villains like Mizuki (SS) and Orochi Shermie (KOF)... but not the "anti hero/bad girl" (non villain) type.

Snk originally was gonna make preecha that antihero bad girl type but opt not too in fear of not being liked or bad impression. Snk i think dont realize the popularity of Juri or just that type of character. Look at Reina for tekken for instance. Very well received and loved by fans. Snk should've made preecha with the original intent of her being that bad girl anti hero as planned instead of last minute change too good nerd waifu.
I only got really into SNK games around 2000/ 2001 on my SEGA Dreamcast, though I had played a few arcade machines before! Iori, Vice and Mature were right away my mains, especially Vice and Iori! Everything about Vice was and is just...! Chef's 💋
I prefer the train tracks stage from 98. The boat from 96 is cool. But something about fighting Iori and the girls in the train tracks makes it so epic.

I'd love for it to be Vice and Mature but the fact they said it was a "Special" character is SNK lingo for a character from another franchise. I'm going to go with a meme guess and say it is Aerith.
I personally gave up waiting for "new" chars (brand new 3d model) and accepted that if there are ever more chars, it's going to be a pack of returning chars from KOF 14. Because it's much easier to make. After all the game is on its final year and the focus must be on FF right now. The only likely exception would be a new boss.
Its a given Its Vice/Mature, but we'll most likely get Oswald too. ALL the DLC KOF14 characters came back in 15. Plus maybe, Shen Woo as he is the most requested character.
I don't think they are going announce season 3. There are already 59 character in kof 15 roaster. And if they announce season 3 , I don't think that we are getting street fighter characters .
Yeah, exactly my thoughts. They dont deserve the "greater" tone used in that dlc announcement. Not even if they are free. Because Rugal and Goenitz were free and they are even original models, not just slightly updated models from KOF 14 assets, and still they werent announced with that greater tone. So that makes me still believe that there will be more dlc chars and SNK just chose this time a style of announcing dlcs randomly and different from the regular dlc pack announcement style.
Not really. KOF is at such a late point of its life that it would be very reasonable to decide leaving a guest char only for FF, that is the upcoming game. It makes total sense to just fill up the roster with a few popular KOF chars who still had to join, and leave the hot new stuff for FF. Secondly: Sorry to hurt your hype potentially, but it's important to point out that nobody ever said SNK is going to get a guest char. That's not certain yet. It's just pure fan speculation because people are naturally hyped about the possibility. But the reality is that these guest chars contracts don't always go both ways. There's the case of T7 getting SF and KOF guests, DOA getting KOF guests, SC getting a SS guest, SS getting a GG guest, and others...
Fatal Fury's original japanese name is Garou Densetsu since 1991. The use of "Garou" in that specific game, for the american localization, seemed to be arbitrary. Maybe it was the cool sound of the word and the need to redefine the brand. I mean, apparently the original plan was to force the franchise to time skip and keep going from that, so it was going to be a kind of "new brand"... probably in the sense that Dragon Ball added a "Z" and then it became it's own thing, with episode 1 counting from the point after that time skip, etc.
I love Mature and Vice as characters. But unless you’re a massive fan of them and they’re your absolute favorite characters….then it’d be super disappointing. They were on last game (XIV), so we don’t miss them much. They’re super secondary to Iori. And not a lot of people use them. People were expecting either a SF character, a cool boss like Krizalid, or another SNK character. Having Mature and Vice as possible the last Kof xv dlc is definitely underwhelming. But I guess is better than leaving Hinako as the last XV character ever.
Yeah my problem with all this story is only the way the annoucement was worded. It's not reasonable to call them special even if they are random dlc added outside a regular dlc pack... and to me they don't deserve to be called that even if they were free. Like, when Rugal and Goenitz were free then ok, totally deserved: extremely popular bosses even today, big suprises, brand new models and bundled with costumes. But Mature and Vice, even if they were going to be free, will be just recycled assets from KOF 14, so i really can't see anything "special" about them. (And i like them a lot... this comment has nothing to do with either liking or disliking them)
I'm really hoping their supers and Climax arts look good and not just up scaled versions of the ones from KOF 14...now mind you Mature's looked pretty good as far as Climax supers go but Vice needs a revamp ASAP as her Climax special in 14 was just as lackluster as Ramon, Leona, and King of Dinosaurs' were and K.O.D got a REAL nice upgrade in 15. I'm still hoping for more DLC past Vice and Mature.....ya'll know me, I'm still wanting Oswald back lol or even Lin and his poison mechanic...we got Duolon so might as well have Lin as well imo.
I'm really not a fan of characters from a previous game being DLC especially since they were already playable in most of the noteworthy games (i.e. 98:UM, 2002:UM, XIII). Why not have them available from the start?
Vice and Mature, huh? It's weird that they're sharing the same silhouette for the reveal. Are they gonna be a tag style character like the Maids in Melty Blood, a striker style character like #18 in DBFZ, or two characters that fight at the same time like Chang and Choi in CvS2? Or maybe they'll be separate characters like they've always been and are simply trying something new with the reveal. What do you guys think?
SNK pretty much works like a "retro" company, aiming to highlight the glory of the Old SNK from the 90s... so to me there are literally zero chances that the devs are making that kind of gameplay experiment. Which arent innovative at this point but they are surely uncommon and out of the box ideas still today.
Man I'm trying to keep my admiration for KOF but it has gotten too out there for me personally. The designs for many of the characters are kinda wild and the storyline is all over the place. I guess I'm more of a Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting participant because these games have many characters I can relate to. I really like KOF 94, 95 and 98. After KOF 95 the plot became too unbelievable and unrelatable. I will say that 2 of the most badass fighting game bosses are Geese and Rugal. I hope the next KOF 15 character isn't some crazy looking pop weirdo with a wild costume. Can we please get back to the traditional street brawling martial arts fighter? Maybe a Shaolin Monk or Jeet Kune Do practitioner?
I understand, and personally enjoy the FF and AOF style of making stories. But the difference is that i just accept the style choice of KOF, which was never meant to follow FF-AOF (and it was formally defined that way by the own original makers), and that's a good attribute to make KOF stand out in contrast. Which is one of the virtues that made SNK a superior fg company than Capcom in the 90s, in everything except commercial sucess and technology resources. That more profound artistic direction, in the sense of making different franchises with unique stories, storytelling style, setting, even graphics style. Secondly, it's true that these veteran fg franchises were all created in the 90s, but that doesn't mean the sequels have to be made like they are products meant for the 90s, with all cultural references from the 80s/90s that inspired the first versions. FF and AOF (and the early SF, MK, TK, etc) were made under heavy influence of the old school action and martial arts movies... but that reference became weaker gradually along the years, for the simple matter of the dynamic changes in pop culture. (Like, that's also how SF was already leaning more to anime by SFA and SF3)
I mean, try looking everywhere else and find the fg with heavy "grounded" and "old school movie" inspiration. The fact is that there's nothing. The current SF and TK devs are not making original chars like they were going to be in SF2 and T1. So those things you pointed out are normal aspects in the fg industry, like it or not. If that is enough to lose respect or admiration for KOF, then at the very least that same reaction is supposed to apply to SF and TK. (Or else that was nothing but a display fanboy bias, willing to forgive the modern fashion leanings of SF6 but not those in KOF)
Well if they aren´t vice and mature pretty sure most people will get angry because i saw many people mention them,so if they are not vice and mature they have to put them in the game because of what i saw,many want them. Me? i just want Alba in the game,sure would love to see Kensou,Seth aswell but oh well,we don´t always get what we want,like in mk i want Victor Crowley but the leaks are showing stupid and lame Ghostface...............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
