Kohler 6.75/149 cc Spark Plug. Easy to Remove? What was Kohler thinking? 

Good info about the socket sizes. That is my issue exactly, except I couldn't tell the size of the one in the engine. Could use a little less drama and get to the point. Thanks for the info.

The soark plug is metric, 18mm. There are many plugs that are this size, The smaller plugs for Weedwhacker are often 14 mm. They make spark plug sockets for these sizes.

I thought it was just me because I'm an old lady and this is the first time I have tried to change the spark plug in this particular mower. I have a spark plug wrench that has worked on all previous mowers but this time neither end worked. so took my wrench to the hardware store and tried a bunch of deep sockets, I was looking for one that was just a bit smaller than one end of my wrench and a bit larger than the other end and ended up with the 11/16thwhich works but I am grateful for your video because now I know it is just a Kohler thing. Thank you! ! !

Thank you so much for making this video. Like many others have commented I too was so frustrated with finding no information from Kohler on how to replace the spark plug. Even my Toro dealer had no idea that 11/16 would be required.

Thank you for this video. Earlier today I spent several frustrating hours trying to remove the spark plug on my Toro 22 recycler.None of the various spark plug removal tools /socket wrenches worked . Now at least I know what size socket wrench to buy.Very nice of you to think it important to post your video on this subject.

Thank you for this video. I have this exact mower and also was very confused why my spark plug socket could not remove the original plug, yet seemed to fit the replacement. After this video I bought both an 18 mm and an 11/16. They both seemed to fit, but the 11/16 I bought made by Tekton did the job and worked the best for me. Thanks again for relieving so much frustration in me by showing me I was not the only confused and frustrated person with their silly mower-and giving great advice on how to fix it.

I've been rebuilding a 3 blade deck on an old Craftsman with a Kohler Pro 22hp engine. The deck pulleys, spindles, blades and PTO was totally shot but the engine still ran great and the mower chassis overall was in great condition considering it's a 25 YO mower. It also had a new set of tires on it. Anyway I also wanted to do an oil & filter change..new gas filter and a new air filter. While I was at it I thought I'd put a couple new plugs in it but I couldn't get my spark plug socket (13/16) to fit the old plugs and it's set back in behind some engine shroud so I couldn't see why it wouldn't fit!! Frustrated the crap out of me so I came in the house for afternoon coffee and while I did I happen to run across this video. You dah man!! What you're saying makes perfect sense. Remove exhaust muffler- use 11/16 wrench to remove spark plug.

I think it's an 18mm spark plug socket. A bit more common in the motorcycle world.

I found a 18mm fits the best.

Ha... I wish I had watched this prior to spending hours searching for a plug that would fit my little Huskee mower. $ 16 for the goofy little filter as well. Never did find a plug, so I just cleaned and gapped the old one. PS... Tractor supply now carries plugs from a company that I've never heard of... No Champion, NKG, Kohler, Briggs, etc anymore. Could not find an equivalent. Thanks for the video. Does the Champion that you mention fit properly?

You would think with Kohler that everything is metric on them the spark plug would be a metric size and not a SAE size good video explaining the spark plug size.

Another reason to Hate the 6.75 149 cc Koehler. As if the carb / choke setup is not enough. Give me 190 cc of Quantum, and I am happy.

But here is the kicker, look up inside the spark plug boot, the plug adapter, that goes on the end of the plug..... Unscrews, I just did a Lawn-Boy with the Kohler engine, did a tune up, and the plug tip had unscrewed from the spark plug, and was stuck up inside the boot, I had to use a flat head screw driver a large one, and I noticed it had slots, so I had to unscrew it from the boot, then I had to release 2 clips, not letting them launch into the grass, never to be seen again, then the tip fell out, put the clips back into the tip holder, then screwed the holder back into the boot. Wow I never knew it was made like that, but sure enough it is, check one out when you can, I was amazed.

Do Kohler sell a Kohler plug wrench ?

Something tells me that Kohler engine is not made in the USA. I have seen 11/16" plugs in a variety of import engines.

Where is the spark plug located?

I have no idea why Kohler does what it does, goofy spark plug, air filter, and now the screw in sparkplug tip holder inside the boot, seems to only be the 6.75hp engine, but WHY.... LMAO
