Finally tub fixed. Kohler said that not all replacement pieces qualify for the lifetime warranty, however, they gave me buy one get one free so I replaced both hot and cold and I did it by myself. Thank you again for getting back to me so quickly and for the video that gave me the confidence to disassemble and fix my tub without calling a plumber! The cold knob and guts were easier to remove since I had the right tools. Patty from PA

My husband will be buying ME dinner after I replaced the cartridges. Thanks for the instructions - I found that wrapping the handles in paper towels, soaking them in lemon juice and covering them with plastic baggies for a few hours really helped to get the stuck collars off. I thought that they would never budge, but patience really paid off.

Ten years ago thanks. The faucet I was trying to fix is 15 years old. The valves are rusted or welded in place and leaking. But couldn't get them out. Customer though I don't know what I'm doing. I then tried to heat it up and I didn't know it had plastic parts and now the water doesn't work.😂 New parts are coming so will put it back together your video is helpful.

Thanks for the duct tape tip. I was doubtful but it turned out to be the best solution to getting this off. Mine too was so stuck it too more force than I felt comfortable with to get it loose. Again, thanks for the tip.

Thanks a lot for posting this video! I have an old style kholer and didn't realize that the collar was threaded on like yours. It's not the same model but it came apart the same way. I was kicking myself once I realized how simple it is; thanks again.

You are welcome-Kohler will send you the replacement part for free...

How did you manage that? Do I need a receipt to prove ownership or something, or are they one of those companies that just want to support their products? I was about to go buy a new stem assembly!

majinkai I consider Kohler a great company which stands behinds its products 100%. No, you do not need a receipt. Just give them a call and they treat you like royalty. The employees at Home Depot or Lowes may or may not know that Kohler offers lifetime warranty on parts.

Hello again! Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. Your video was exactly what I needed to get to the guts of my problem. Waiting to see if Kohler is really going to charge me or send it out for free. Ex-husband got the 18 year old part off for me (I am positive the vinegar helped-Tx!). Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for responding to me. You're a great person! Patty from PA

For dyiers, you should tell everybody that the valves for hot water and cold water are different ! I learned the hard way and had to change the valve again. And the bag , IN VERY SMALL LETTERS I MIGHT ADD, say hot water valve and cold water valve. Me being not a plumber did not know that. And very review I seen , does not mention that !!

@jgb1128, you'll need to take a look at the copper tube underneath the whole valve assembly. Mine have a white, rectangular decal. You're looking for "PN" or "P/N" with a string of characters after it. The first group should be the actual part number. Everything after that is just finish (chrome, brass), etc. Hope this helps.

Hello PJ from PA...I'm glad you had success from our discussion...How did the vinegar work out for you?...Kohler replaced both Hot & Cold for the price of one-good deal.

Hi Mr. Ronald Smith, I am try to replace my faucet. However, I can't seem to remove the collar (I think that's what you called it at your video 0:48). I am soaking in in vinegar. Hopefully that will do the trick. thanks update: soaked it with vinegar for about 4-6 hours then bang it a little did the job. thanks

How can identify the model # of my faucet (and I think I have the exact one from this video) to get that part sent to me from Kohler? I cannot easily get to the guts of the faucet as I have a sink and pedestal.

But, is the cartridge serviceable. Only the stem leaks, on ours.
