Kollu varagu kanji super. I've made this before but not with millet. Adding millet to this is brilliant. I am from palakkad tamil family and we make mudhira puzhukku. Its just cooked kollu with mami chollra mari chaandu mari aracha thengai and red chillies. Last la pacha thenga enna vittu. Its very tasty. My mother always made paruppu podi with kollu and thuvaram paruppu together. The flavour is amazing.

In traditional Palakkad homes, no onion or garlic is used in cooking. Kollu called Muthira, is made as a delicious puzhukku along with some native rice. It cooks all morning to all day in an Uruli on slow woodfire, along with big chunks of iddi-chakkai, that is tender plaakkai/jackfruit. Only salt, a little vellam, and coconut oil is added to it. It is like gruel or thin porridge, a completely satisfying meal by itself but should be enjoyed warm. It can be pressure cooked for convenience. In my childhood, in the North, it was cooked on a chullah (bucket-aduppu lit with varali, wood pieces and coal that keeps going for several hours as you add more coal.
