Holy shit @ 4:50 what he says about inspiring new young musicians is spot-fucking-on. Since hearing his collab with Gizz and expanding into his music, I've been on bass nonstop. I'm a jazz double bassist cracking down on my electric bass skills, the elaborate progressions and well thought out basslines make me realize there's a modern form of jazz to explore outside of hip hop.
Love everything about this interview. The background, their music, his hat and voice. Makes me want to discover bands like theirs and make photos and videos for them.
It's quite fascinating for me to listen to this considering it is 6 years old. Everything Mr Brettin has stated in this interview is accurate. The scene has retrogressed into this darker state of existence (though this was documented long before this interview) but he sought to bring back the album vibe of songs that smoothly transitioned from one song into the next, of equal quality, and embodied all aspects of music that is authentic and non mainstream with an academic foundation, zero arrogance and clever packaging for potential discover of main stream listeners. I'm in my my 40's and have been recently so influenced and inspired by MHC that I am doing a research paper and project for university based around this concept. Going, going, gone is a masterpiece. The groups evolution is impressive. The quality and genre is virtually unheard of in my country (Australia). I hope they come back here so I can see them... Thanks to the interviewer/ uploader! Much love and respect from down under!
I found this band accidentally 2 days ago on spotify, the funny thing is that i was actually looking for some trash metal song called homage for satan and then the next song somehow this band pop up with the title homage, and suddenly i love this band from the first time.
Homage is amazing, it’s the first Mild High Club song I heard and I’ve been hooked sense. Also if you are still looking for the other song it’s a deicide song
I told myself when I check this band out, im going to listen to both albums on Spotify all the way through back to back. I’ve realized that I’m in love with this band.
Listen to it smoking regularly so i've heard it front to back countless times. As a music major myself, i'm in love with the combination of the complexity with the shoegaze psychedelic vibe to go with it, its really the best of both worlds. One of my favorite people alive at the moment.
thank you for this. There are not many interviews of MHC on youtube. Very interesting the way he describes Skiptracing... just the way I feel about it. It's a journey, a beautiful one.
thanks for this rockin' interview!! i love this vid... the background, the spinny hat thing, everything. keep on doing what you do!!!!!!! also alex i love u
In my opinion, very underrated, out of the norm, but it pays off with different sounds that aren’t boring and differ from pop and other genres, I really just enjoy listening to their music.
