Oh goodness, I missed a vital part of the tip, I apologize! I soaked the label in water first then covered with plastic wrap THEN I freeze it. The water has to absorb into the label so it doesn’t work on labels with plastic. I’m glad it worked for you though!

I know I have already posted, but I just peeled the stickers & sticky residue off 27 bottles so quick and easy no scrubbing at all... thanks again for your post, it save me so much time and energy. Thanks for this. I tried removing GT labels a different way before. This was quicker, simpler, and less work.( I did keep the hot water in the bottle while the baking soda goo did is work.)

This worked great! Poured boiling water in. Waited 5 minutes and label removed easily. After applying the baking soda and oil paste to the still hot GT bottle I found the glue residue came off after 5 minutes. I simply rubbed the residue off with a paper towel. No scrubbing needed!

Lemon essential oil makes taking off the sticky residue a breeze. Just apply enough oil to dampen the residue, give it a couple minutes and you can usually just wipe away the residue. It’s also natural, inexpensive, and smells great!

I love your videos, you're like the authority on kombucha. I have so many gt bottles that have little label parts stuck to them! Definitely going to try this soon. Something that looks really interesting is all the ferments going on behind you. I would really love it if you made a video going into detail about what you like doing for other 2F flavoring or even other ferments that would be super interesting!

Great demo. Thanks. I’ve tried hot tap water. It works on some jars, but not the kombucha ones. I’ll boil some right now. I found this so helpful. Nothing else I had tried worked. My bottles are now/will be label free now. One thing I did do differently, however, was placing the bottles in the boiling water, and turning the stove on low. For, the water in just the bottle, did not do anything at all. In general, other than that slight change, this procedure works!

Another trick I learned brewing beer is to place a pile bottles in a cooler, carefully fill with boiled water from a pot enough to cover all the bottles, stir in some oxyclean and close the lid… the next morning all the labels will be floating in the water and any residue easily wiped off with a wet rag. Run the bottles through the dishwasher or rinse out thoroughly and you’re good to go.
@messyhomestead7320

Just bear in mind that OxyClean is made with chlorine and asbestos which there are no safe levels of for human consumption, so you might just keep in mind for edibles.

Wow that boiling water idea is so much safer than the hair dryer idea and a great hack - thank you! (Bonus that you've proven the bottles are legit heat-safe :)). I bet my alcohol water spray bottle that I use for fruit flies and odors in kitchen would work great to get residue off too, though you actually don't need do to that step since soaking in hot soapy water will also get all that off. I'd just been using my bottles with the labels on but I think I'll do this removal. Thanks again!

Thanks for that. I pour boiling water into the bottle to the top of the label then peel it off without waiting. I work on the idea that I want to get to the glue after it is heated by the glass and before the label and the glue start to separate. If there is a residue I stick tissue paper on and let it stand for a couple of days. Steel wool (stainless steel with continuous filament) will remove the glued tissue from the glass. [Also known as Scotch-Brite Stainless Steel Scouring Pad] Try it..

@charlotteanderson7761
@charlotteanderson7761 4 года назад
Andy Bailey I think from what I’ve read that you need a Scoby or starter. I mean the kombucha yeasts and stuff aren’t just naturally in the air. I mean I’m sure there’s a way to do it but you may have to live in China 200 years ago for that to happen 😂😂
@atumnefer
@atumnefer 4 года назад
You can grow your own with patience. When I first began I was given a starter Pellicle that many refer to as a Scoby and 2 cups of starter tea. I had two gallon jars though. It was summertime. I used her method and processed one jar with the pellicle and starter tea that came with it and the other was processed with 16oz of GT Original kombucha as a starter tea and organic cane sugar and black tea that was it. I used a few coffee filters with a rubber band to seal both jars and left them alone for weeks in a low lit area. I checked and they began looking like gelatin. After I reviewed her post and video about mold I stopped worrying about that and let the jars sit some more. Both jars had pellicles by time I was ready to process for F-2. The starter pellicle I was given grew a new firm pellicle around it. Eventually I separated them. So I managed to grow my own in the subsequent jar. Hope this helps.
@messyhomestead7320
@messyhomestead7320 Год назад
That isn't a thing you can do, because each SCOBY is starting from something. In reality everything in the world is starting from something, though...like, a seed or a spore or whatever. That's what you're doing when you start from a store-bought - you're giving that germ of life ingredient and the conditions it needs to grow, a get-together. So you have to start from something and be in a location where you have access to the temps you'll need to do the brewing (like, not Greenland or Chad, for example).
