I just got the new Fable Pets "The Game" puzzle feeder (after failed Kong Wobbler, Large and Starmark Bob-A-Lot Interactive Pet Toy, Large). Really really like it. Pricey (which is why I avoided it at first), but it allows you to adjust hole size and complexity easily, it's silicon jacketed soooo it's quiet... and my Labrador can't shred the top like the Bob-A-Lot and get the food out (she is not a chewer at all, but she figured out how to game the system). Also, it holds 1.5 cups of dried food (the Bob-A-Lot holds like 1/3-1/4 of a cup which is a pain) so I can hold a full meal for a large 80lb dog. Your tip with the ball helped immensely with the Kong... it's just too loud and releases to easily for utilty.
It might be trickier for them at first because it will require a bit more oomph to knock it around. But I think that if you use the suggestions from the video to make it easier for the first 5-10 uses, you'll probably be good to go!
You do NOT need to buy this, just put dry doggie kibble into an empty water bottle and your dog will paw at it around the room to cause pieces of kibble to fall out bit by bit...
