yeah and that's why so many students have terrible mental health. little kids will go to convenience stores and literally buy caffeinated drinks just to have energy to study 💀
@@junehoneycrisp I have a hakwon from 2pm~10pm and we have a 40 minute dinner and my friends drink coffee alot lol. It might seem really hard but after a while you get used to it.
@@salinah.1220 of course, there are people in every country which follow this type of even more hectic schedule but you can't judge a country based on single place
No, it's not disliking their children, it's hoping for them to do better than them, even if the child dont want that, communication is usually the key But it's not disliking, careful with the words
It's same for Indian students too... it's just that we don't stay at school at night for studies rather go to coachings or study at home and libraries....
@@blastoiseddr actually teachers tend to give a shit about you learning if you give them money on top of their salary, considering that they don't teach just one student this is a lot of money, but still kind of a waste of money.
Ikr. In my country, older people would "scold" you for wearing uniform after 4 PM, or 5 at max. You're not recommend to wear the uniform for extracurricular as they're suppossed to be "fun" and "not stressful"
I look at kids in school uniform after 5pm weird.. i always b like they gotta go home and change its gross to be in uniform all day.. now ill change my thoughts incase they have extra curricular activites i dont know about
guys here's a reminder. just because someone out there has it worse than you doesn't mean your pain isn't valid. remember to be grateful, yes, but not to the point it makes your pain turn into guilt. whatever you feel is valid
As a korean student, I never knew that. I wake up at 7, go to school at 7:30... Go home at 4 pm. Have my life until 7 pm, then go to tuition and come back at 10 pm and I do whatever I want till 1 or 2 am and then I sleep....
Hey, I'm Korean too. I guess people just know the circumstances that the media reported, which always over-exaggerated the situation more than the normal....
As a Kenyan student we go to boarding school. Wake up- 4.00am Be in class by 6.00am Lessons till - 5.30pm Supper- 6.00pm Go to class for prep till 10.00pm Extra study till 12.00am Wake up at 4 and do it all over again😂😂
That’s crazy!! I bet you’ll come out of it so much more educated and ready for a career than the majority of other people. Hang in there! You got this! I did want to ask, what does “go to class for prep” mean? Do you mean like study groups for the next day or something?
I have a 1 week holiday and when we come back, we have our end of year exams and u literally don't understand how unmotivated I am 😭 someone needs to donate me some motivation frr 😫
I’ve never studied in Korea but I have studied in a country nearby and the fat-shaming (they are completely fine with being underweight, happy even) along with comparing grades are really severe :(
In India it's like 5'o clock wake up School starts at 7 Ends at 1 Private academy starts at 3-3:30 Ends at 8 Reach home by 9 From 11-12 need to do homework And the day ends at 12-1 am Coming from an average school attending science students 😂😂😂
Nah, this isn't the "whoever has it worst" Olympics. If it was, the Korean students would have to shut up because there's a remote village somewhere where there's no schooling at all
@@certifiedyoongistan they’re pretty similiar, like you can go to school while in summer or christmas, horrid work hours. 120 hours per week which is like 16 hours of work a day. I guess the rate is higher for students in Korea While the rate is higher for adults in Japan
this is korean middleschool lol😂 I'm doing that even though I'm a middleschooler. actual korean highschool end at 10pm cus there is something called ya-ja(means night study?). and students would go to hagwon in the weekends😢😢
Well the first half is probably common in other asian country like going to school at 7 and coming home at 4 with some extra tutor... but the rest was just insane and korea need a child care and mental health checkup every week

(This is actuall schedule its mine)❤
Yes because we have a rigid education system Even in india , high schoolers have to study this much for an entrance exam or just for performing good in year 10 and year 12
This is the same with immigrant Asians, they raise their children with high standards in hopes of them getting a high paying job, and typically we have to take tuition classes after standard school
As a Korean this is partly true. First off some students don't wake up at 6:30 anymore. In some regions, the law has forced schools to start later(9:00). This applies to schools in metropolitan area. Also, in many schools we don't have study sessions. If we do, they are mostly optional. (But not completely. Mandatory study sessions still remain in other schools.) And only hard-working students study until 2am. This is optional, and highly up to each student(some study overnight, some don't study at night at all). Most students only do this before midterm and final exams, or when Korean SAT is near.
Okay at least this sounds normal and not too hectic of a life. Good thing some of you do have a social life besides studying all day long because i feel so bad for yall 😭
if your school system for literal children and teenagers is so messed up that they can't even get 8h of sleep every night, you're doing something wrong. wtf south korea-
thts why i love finland. they want their children and teens to enjoy youth while they can it’s really beautiful to see. not a lot of countries know how to balance learning and wellness
I visited South Korea 2 weeks ago. I went to a convenience store a few blocks away from a school. And guess what? There were 2 elementary students buying caffinated drinks. I had to ask them if they were buying it for another person but they responded saying it was for themselves. I did ask for them to check the caffeine level to see if it was safe for them or not.
I started sleeping at 1 and waking up at 5 since 6th grade since 6th grade because I was afraid of not being able to be as good as my peers. The extra time paid off, and my studies are going well, but I wasted soo much time to just sleep and play 😢 I wish I allowed myself more free time as a tween…
No wonder so many of them end up being sadistic bullies 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 Like every story i hear in the news in korea ia about bullies torturing each other and blackmail and dehumanizing people
And also the suicide rates. The brain would've been altered so much as to be more susceptible to stress and negative thoughts. The mental has become so weak.
@@MultiFandom8isFate bullying isn't rlly a bad thing I mean bullies are bad but bullying isn't as it helps in making people strong . If someone is getting bullied than it is indeed their fault that they are getting bullied
But i have seen many kdramas where the student casts are most of the time in school than at home 😂 Even when it was very late at night they would be in school I used to wonder if they have longer nights and shorter days round the year 😆
In Algeria 🇩🇿 we study from 8am to 5:30pm with extra lessons until like 8pm and you homeworks for 10 subjects and you have to prepare the lessons of the next day and do it all over again ❤
The most scary thing is those time schedules are common. That means most of student in s.korea are doing this not because they chose to, but they have to. Like it's already been taught by society that you have to spend that much time for studying
It's stupid I think. Life's limited and they chose to spend it like this. Those money they desperately got, they can't even enjoy it after they're dead.
I doubt they're really able to.....this is really unhealthy and at a certain point without rest your brain becomes too tired to properly take in information...they'd probably do better if they got some more time to rest....this is probably more conditioning for them to work longer hours in the office than they're paid, than actually teaching them anything
natalia doesn't have malicious intent, just giving them praise for hard work. as toxic as it is, we cant fix it in 5 minutes so we'll just tell them how much their effort is appreciated. we all feel sorry for anyone who might have experienced a similar education life
Yeah could not be me... I don't have the patience nor attention span... Omg yeah no... I wake up at 6 am and get to school at 7 am. I leave school at 3 but I don't have to go to a study session. That sounds like hell... Omg...
She is actually over exaggerating. It happens in India also but only for some people who chose a specific sector to study which is very common. Not every students have to study like that. I think 12th graders who are trying to give a competitive examination only have to take the stress to study like this.
In high school I go to school at 7 a.m, get back home at 2 p.m, then play and play and play untill 6 p.m. after that I take a bath, have my dinner, do my homework while watching TV and go to sleep at 10. P.M
Bro literally I saw many other crazy shit happening on the internet but everyone thinks it’s perfect because of kpop even the kpop industry is fricking horrible
idols don't really go to an academic school like the normal one. most of them go to an art school/university in which most of the subjects are about art music and performing etc. so idols can also graduate even they only attended like 5days. I alrdy knew that there are times company pay the school so that an idol can graduate.
most idols stop going to school, and the ones that do continue school usually miss most of their classes and only go to school every once in a while. they dont study like these students do
some people never thought of how hard it is to be a korean student 💀 like some kpop or kdrama fans would always say that they would rather go to a school in korea but they never realize how hard and stressful it is and how it’s completely different from your usual kdramas
As a korean myself (I’m korean-American) , after school program is optional just like tutoring lessons after school. It’s not really required or necessary. They’re just intensifying it coz a lot of student takes it. Again, It is not required, It is optional like your normal tutoring lessons after school. The studying til 2am is up to the student.
I used to go to school from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm every day, and for me that was hell. covid really helped me escape that disastrous event in my last two years of school. I feel sorry for the Korean students who have to go through this, if my mental health was deteriorating because of my diabolical schedule, I don't want to think about them.
@@Ivan-th7iu honestly, this explains why the suicide rates are so high in the bullying is so bad because this is really bad for your body, and for a growing child not having enough sleep for a child can cause unproper growth with a schedule like this the brain would be so altered that it would start with negative thoughts which can lead to depression and more problems
It’s so crazy to me that this is allowed and normalized. Surely they know that a human being needs more than 4-5 hours of sleep to be able to even comprehend everything they’re studying for all of those hours ? It’s such an inefficient way of studying and living. I honestly find it depressing and extremely strange that South Korea is so advanced yet they have this terrible and unhealthy system
Exactly! this is what I am telling my students. They need to sleep/ take a rest to understand what they're studying. But can't really blame them bc that's the harsh reality of their educational system.
Ikr! They’re human beings not robots. A lot of that studying is straight down the drain if they don’t get enough sleep. Work smart instead of hard! 16 hours a day is fr ridiculous
In India, for private schools, the schedule goes like this: Get to school by 7:00 School gets over at 2:00 From 3:00 to 10:00- it's just tutoring, extra-curriculam (we are supposed to be masters in music, dance, sports, chess, etc😅) and self study continues till 12:30-1:00 But now I feel I am in better place than the average students in Korea😢
Personally I almost have the same schedule the only difference is that I am not going to school after the afternoon Programm so I just study at home till 2. Yay Germany I guess
As an Indian, 5:00- wake up 5:00-6:45 revision of next class 7:30-1:30 school 1:50-3:00- revise coaching notes 3:30- get ready and go to coaching 4-8 coaching 8-8:30 gets home 8:30-9:30 dinner 9:30-1:30-self study
Yeah, I have similar schedule but not as strict the Korean one I wake up at 6:30am come to school for 8:00am or I’m late. Leave at 3:50pm have 1hr chill time then go for after school classes till 7:30pm
I was in a school that to be honest was torture. So here was my schedule (boarding school) Wake up at about 4:30 AM Breakfast 6:15 AM Duties like cleaning end at 6:50 AM At 7:00 to about 8:00 preps that sometimes teachers come. Parade ends at 8:20 Ten minute break at 9:20 Tea break at 11:00 AM Lunch at 12:45 PM Sports at 4:10 to about 5:00 PM If you use hot water to bathe because of medical issues you have to go to the kitchen at 5:10 and get one litre of hot water. There also wasn't uniforms when we you're a freshman so you'd have to wash your shirt for tomorrow coz you only have two Night preps begin at 6:30 to 9:30 PM (During my time we were extremely overworked I was in F3) After 9:30 to about 11:45 we had to do math assignments we were given that usually had tons of questions So because of the work load we'd sleep at midnight and wake up at three. Kenya... Bless this our land and nation
I did those 16 hour studying days for a week when I had to prepare 3 exams at the same time. By the end I was so fatigued I literally had no idea where I was and what time it is. Can't imagine doing that for years
as a korean, the average hugon is five. you kinda get used to the extreme schedule after doing that ur whole entire life but ur right, it does impact our mentality.
Waking up at 5am coming back at 1:30 pm eats food at home no free food from school tution 1:30 hours , 7pm taekwondo still fails in my mother tongue ye not to mention 20kg bags
As an egyptian, the only year that could be kind of simillar to this is 12th grade, last year of highschool, and its grade is what unlocks different faculties, Med school needing the highest grades at 95-98% minimum, and CS at like 78-82% minimum, so that year is really the most important of your life, because it decides your career here.
We hosted a student from Korea for a few years. She was very grateful and fortunate to come enjoy the American high school experience. She played every sport she could, went to every dance, joined theater club - she had none of that back home, on top of school 14 hours per day.
I still remember when I used to complain to my parents about how tiring school was and they’ll just say “life is even worse after you graduate, just get through it” and now after I graduated from one of the top university in my country and working in a big company, I can say that high school era is still the most tiring, hectic and stressful era in my life🤣 I still even wonder how did I do that before😅
As a Nigerian mostly in my school actually 😅 if you are among the top 10 best students of each class like your parents won't even be informed you'll just be placed in a private lesson immediately school closes around we end school around 3:00 PM everyday and from 3 : 10 you study until 7:00pm and coming home you get greeted by an online homework of physics and math and chemistry homework which is your modular (like stuff you do to get extra points on your grades mostly 50%) It gets worse as when ever there's a competition and my school is being mentioned just know that you're automatically on the bed lists of participants before others sign in and THEN YOU wake up around 5 : 30am to do online classes before coming back to school to complete the lesson physically Then if you win the competition the school gives you only 20% of the money Then on Saturday we come to school from 7:am and end weekend classes by 6:pm
one bad thing doesn't mean another thing isn't also bad... well established that past around 40 minutes any additional time on a topic is useless as the human attention span is just not very long (attention span hasn't changed in recorded history so has nothing to do with tiktok and stuff)
In India as a high schooler waking anytime after 5 :00 is being lazy Nearly 10 hour of lectures then self study or tution for the rest of the day even if v get 6 hour sleep v find it grateful even more if we got a holiday from school on weekend (which is only Sunday ) it's a miracle
This is kind of the same for my highschool in Croatia, I don’t think all of the students study as much as some of us do but it’s a very rigorous schedule and leaves behind so much stress. I wake up at about 5:45am every day so i can get to school by 8:45, school starts from 9am and usually if you are committed to take extra study classes lasts till about 4-5pm, i get back home around 7pm cause of the long commute time and end up studying till about 4am max if it really gets to that point which it does most of the time because of the amount of schoolwork we get. And also its mandatory to take short exams at the end of almost every class, classes are usually separated into 2 school hours by class.
Damn they spend 16 hours a day for just school while I'm over here with a daily screen time of 12+ hours 💀 The most I every spent in one day was like 17 hours
Taught English to Korean students and this studying time is so true! Even my students who were as young as 4 years old, they have many after-school activities! My students who were high school and college students have rigorous schedule that mainly focus on studying. And if I am not mistaken, this is also why the suicidal rate in S. Korea is so high. I love my S. KOREAN students. So respectful and thoughtful.
I’m an Indian but my schedule is extremely similar to this, it’s extremely hectic at times and sometimes I just can’t deal with it anymore. To all the students reading this, please remember to take a break once in a while. Don’t overwork yourself.

As an Asian I stay at school for 7 hrs and study at home for like 8 hrs sometimes 9 hrs🙂 7+8=15hrs 7+9=16hrs So basically I as an asian i can study for 16 hrs- ye having strict parents is hard if my grade didn't met their expectations they'd force me to study 1-12 hrs-, skl
Bruh after attending a 6hr college (welp 11th-12th grade which would be highschool in foreign countries) & another 3hr tuitions I was knocked out. Cannot even begin to imagine studying for like 16hrs
Mine was like 7.00 am - wakeup 8.00 am - leave for school 9.00 - 4.00 - school ( some days we have special class till 5.30) And reach home by 4.45 - rest 7.15- 8.30 pm - online tution Dinner 9.00- 11.00- self study I used to think even this was suffocating 🥲 ( my parents maybe spend 200$ a year)
bruhh i feel so bad for other countries cause here in my country, depending on schools, we only have 10 hours class a day and sometimes we don't even have study afterwards and still get high grades
all of this is optional. if you want to go to a nice prestigious university in seoul this is recommended and required. If you're fine with lesser known universities then this isn't required. But usually you don't have a choice, your parents sign you up to tutoring classes because obviously they want you to go to school in Seoul.

We have this Korean guy that moved with his family to my home town in South Africa. He was in an all boys private school here and he said that he absolutely loves it and it's so much different than where he's from.
