안녕하십니까 선생님. 여전히 한국어를 맨날 배우고 있습니다! 한국어를 배우는 걸 정말 좋아합니다. 어떻게 지내셨습니까? Any advice for practicing and getting better? I've just been learning Vocab and practicing pronunciation, but grammar and speaking/listening is the hardest. How can I get better?

오랫만입니다 알렉스씨! 건강하고 안전하고 즐겁게 지내고 있으시면 좋겠네요. Speaking and listening are not easy. And you need to look deeper into what makes them difficult in order to find the right solution. The first reason speaking and listening are difficult is that the range of vocabulary and forms you know is still not large enough. What the speaker says contains words that are new to you. What you want to say requires forms that you haven't learned yet. This is a very simple issue and the solution is also simple (even though it takes time). You just have to keep learning new things. And gradually your inventory expands. The second reason is more complex and interesting. It's about your brain not reacting quickly enough. Let's say, what the speaker says only contains words and forms you know. Yet you often have difficulty understanding it. It's because your brain is not assembling those elements quickly enough. So it's about speed, not knowledge. What's needed is repeated encounters of the words and forms you already know. Then your brain's response time will get reduced for the elements that you have encountered many times. Sorry for the long explanation but in the end what you ought to do is rather simple. You just need to do a lot of reading and listening, nothing else. That will take care of both #1 and #2. I hope this all helps :)

@@SpongeMindTV wow man thanks a million. 저한테 한국어를 유창하게 배우는게 정말 중요해요. 그래서 연습이 많이 필요합니다. I got better i the past couple years since I was seeing you, but it's frustrating that I'm not above "Low intermediate" skill. I would really like to become fluent. I really , really appriciate that response. I will continue to expand grammar knowledge, speaking in my head, listening to things. Eventually my skill will just sky rocket. Also I only study like 5-10 minutes a day. It's better if it's like 1 hour a day. That's my fault. 어쨌든, 정말 감사합니다, 성생님.

@@alexfriedman2047 많은 시간을 들이면 꼭 성공하실 겁니다. Your progress is directly correlated to the amount of time you spend with the language. Good luck!

@@SpongeMindTV 네 감사합니다. 어쩌면 밤에 다시 한국어 학교에 다닐 겁니다. 한동안 밤에 학교에 가고 있었지만 코로나19 때문에 그 학교를 그만뒀어요. 이제 새 선생을 찾아야 해요. Self study is really hard.

@@alexfriedman2047 I see. If you want to try a new format of lessons with me, please let me know. It would be based on video messages plus their transcripts. That means you would have enough time to process what's being said, unlike with live conversations. If you are interested, please email me at grow@spongemind.org
