Korean Q&A - 뭐 / 무슨 / 어떤 / 어느 - Which one to use? 

- Teacher, what did you do at the weekend? - I went to the cinema. - What kind of movie did you see? I sometimes had this conversation with students when I came to teach in Korea. I was puzzled to know why they were only interested in knowing the genre of the film, not the title. Now I know what they meant.

about the 어떤 , i understood it as , they ask as like, our personal opinion . Not just the facts, "its a romance book"," its a fiction book", but mostly , what do we think of the book? So 어떤 is more like "how did you like the book? what do you think of the book?"

So 무슨 is for general description / facts and 어떤 is for the specific description / what we think of it?

It‘s the same in German, you don‘t say „was Film guckst du“, you would say „welchen Film guckst du“ (if there is anyone who speaks german)

this is an old comment, but i have to agree that if one speaks a language besides English already, these differences become quite easy to understand! in czech, for example, we have multiple 'what's and that makes it so much easier to distinguish! i generally think that while everything is available in English, the language itself isn't the most helpful and/or varied :D

Your Korean is good. But I just want to correct your Korean as Korean if you don't mind. :) 어느 선생님이 좋아해요? -> 여러분은 어느 선생님이 좋으세요? SUN HYUNWOO씨 정말 좋아해요! -> 저는 SUN HYUNWOO선생님이 정말 좋아요!

Music Lover! You can use 어느 and 누구 and also 어떤 for a person. For example, "어느 선생님이 좋으세요?" "어떤 선생님이 좋으세요?" "누가 좋으세요?" These sentences are all correct. but it's wrong if you say "누구 선생님이 좋으세요?". --> You have to say "선생님들 중에 누가 좋으세요?" "선생님들 중에 누가 좋으세요?" = "어느 선생님이 좋으세요?" They are same. 1) 어느 선생님이 좋으세요?: Which teacher do you like? 2) 선생님들 중에 누가 좋으세요?: Who do you like among the teachers? 3) 어떤 선생님이 좋으세요?: What kind of teacher do you like? 4) 누가 좋으세요?: Who do you like? I also would rather spend my summer/money crash coursing at TTMIK language school instead of other big name universities. You should seriously consider opening one. You can start small with only 8-10 students per beginner, intermediate or advanced learner. Keep the classes to 3 hrs in the am and 3 hrs after lunch. Hold the length to 6 weeks so there are no visa problems. Assist students with discounted hotel reservations within walking distance of school. Incorporate field trips into the curriculum e.g. bus/train trips (after teaching directions) restaurant trips and shopping trips after teaching money, etc. I'm sure it would be a very profitable school and students throughout the world can share their cultural backgrounds.
