Yeah we need to normalize that kind of call out culture being cringe and wrong... This whole cultural appropriation or you're not respecting someone's culture has just gone away too far... If someone is obviously hating on someone's culture, or being racist, you will notice.. It will be literally hateful and look at someone as lesser. Now people just want a virtue signal and a lot of looks like a good person, and it's honestly making a lot of people just afraid to get out in the world and talk, because they're afraid they'll get filmed and cancel. Group think is causing so much damage

For some reason in the past few years it seems to have become a huge thing for people to get offended on other peoples behalf and then try to "correct" the person they assumed offended someone. Don't get me wrong I get it if what the person said was massively racist, sexist, discrimination or stuff like that then yes that person needs to be put in their place and corrected. But I'd say about 95% of the time it's over silly little petty things because some people have a weird savior complex like you said it also doesn't seem to help that not many people can seem to keep their noses out of other people's lifes/problems and also a hell of a lot of people just seem to have opinions on every single little tiny thing these days and feel like they constantly have to share it and tell people when in reality they should have just kept their opinions to themselves especially more so because quite a lot of them wouldn't have the actual bottle to say it to someones face but because they're on the internet it's as if they get braver and a lot of people seem to assume that there won't be actual consequences for the things they say online the next time that they see the person face to face just because they wouldn't say anything to the persons face doesn't mean that the next time they see that person that the person won't say anything to them or possibly even hit them because I've seen/read some disgusting things that people have typed on the internet and it seems to be getting more and more common unfortunately it's as if the feel safe and invincible because they're hiding behind a screen if you get what I mean I hope that this actually makes sense to you because I'm really badly dyslexic so I've tried my best to explain and put in to words/type what I wanted to say and autocorrect and predictive text can be a huge help with that but unfortunately sometimes they just make things more difficult so I really hope that this all makes sense to you also sorry about how long this comment is I've just realised how much I've actually typed and how long it is so I'm really sorry about that

I had a tour guide while I was in South Korea recently and she said something similar. Like she had a Western name and told us her Korean name and immediately said “my Korean name is hard for non Korean people and I prefer you call me by my Western name.” Whatever anyone tells you is their name, is their name.

I feel like the only people complaining are not Asians. I mean, if you apply that thinking to a Thai would you really have the energy to memorize all their name? This is my experience and I have some Thai friends and as well as Koreans, they prefer English name to non Koreans because they know you'll butcher their names aside from the legal aspect of what Lily just said.

Lmao ikr? It even happens with (usually white and/or NA based) creators online too, where if they ever encounter a name that doesn’t sound blatantly white American, they won’t even take two seconds to put it into google translate and hear how it’s actually pronounced. It’s only ever “I’m not even going to try to pronounce that” no matter where you look. So sick and tired of the same people suddenly want to play saviour on the behalf of those who want nothing to do with their laziness and ignorance, just for some cheap internet clout.

Being a Chinese American, I also have a Chinese name but never use it. If anyone were to call me by that name, I would never respond since I never use it. I think it's like you said, whatever the person tells you to go with is the name they prefer you to call them so go with it.

This might sound stupid but because you have an English and a Chinese name dose your family call you by your full Chinese name when you're in trouble because I never get my proper full first name but I know if my family uses my full first name that I'm in a little bit of trouble but if I get my full first name and both of middle names I'm in quite a bit of trouble but if I get my full first name and both of my middle names and my last name I know sh*t is about to hit the fan and I'm in real big trouble so I was just wondering if you get called your full Chinese name by your family does that mean that you're in real big trouble I hope that this comment actually makes sense to you because I'm really badly dyslexic and have tried my best to explain it the best that I can with the help of autocorrect and predictive text so I at least hope that everything is spelt properly haha 🤔😂

A few years ago at my workplace I had a coworker that went by Jenny. Her Korean name was Minji but she didn't want us to call her that because if pronounced incorrectly (like Menji) it means something along the lines of "weird/creepy" I also have an Uncle who has an Indigenous name and "Christian" name ~ he goes by Tyler or Ty. If I was going to live full-time in a foreign country I probably would also use a name that was more easily pronounced for that area. Why not?? Saves a lot of confusion/difficulty for others and can make it so you're less likely to be discriminated against.
@yeol174
@yeol174 3 месяца назад
Isn’t that some Asians use an English name or nickname when interacting with foreigners? The same way foreigners living/studying in Asian countries sometimes come up with their nicknames respectively to the country they’re in. A lot of people I met that were studying in China had Chinese names made up by their colleagues or friends (it usually was a combination of characters that sounded similar to their real name), so it would be easier to communicate.

Why do they need to justify anyone else before fact checking, istg people are butthurt over anything.. my friends from China usually have English name, not because they are ashamed or disrespecting parents/such but because they feel it is easier for them to introduce themselves with non-native speaker (since their real name is so hard to pronounce and they will likely confused) and they got to create their prefered name outside China. Jeez calm down -_-

People just seem to love to get offended for other people these days for some reason even if the original person isn't offended. I've literally seen some argue with someone else because they got offended for then and the person told them that they weren't bothered and there was no need to be offended for them so they started to argue with them telling them why they were wrong and they're either lying about not being offended or if they really aren't offended then they should be and started listing off reasons while the other person just kept saying that they weren't offended and it didn't matter and the other person wouldn't give up trying to tell them why they should be offended it was so ridiculous and stupid I hope that this actually makes sense to you because I'm really badly dyslexic so I've tried my best to explain it as best as I can
