*English subtitles will be uploaded within the next 24 hours.* From May 6, 2021, we will now be on TikTok! Follow @elsplanet.ph to watch your favorite EL’s Planet videos in a shorter, and shareable format! 💜 *Information Given to Reactors:* *General Information* What you just watched are 3 popular Filipino “sing and dance” groups from the 90s to the early 2000s. Unlike groups coming from the US, UK, South Korea, and Japan that followed trendy global hip-hop influenced music, these “sing & dance” groups of the Philippines went for lighthearted novelty songs with catchy lyrics and underlying mature meanings. To this day, these songs are still enjoyed by people of all ages in the Philippines. Novelty songs - songs written as a piece of humor or comedy *Viva Hotbabes - Bulaklak* The Viva Hot Babes are a Filipino pop girl group composed of actresses and models, that debuted in 2003. Their debut single "Bulaklak" released was one of the most controversial and critically panned songs of the 2000s, due to its double meanings and underlying adult themes. During that same year, the Viva Hot Babes released the controversial "Bulaklak" music video, which was almost banned due to the song's message. Notable members of the group: Maui Taylor (Filipina Actress), Andrea del Rosario (Former Vice-Mayor of Quezon City, Philippines), and Katya Santos (Filipina Actress) *Streetboys - Boom Tiyaya* Debuting in 1993, Streetboys served as the pioneer dance group of ABS-CBN’s ASAP (A music show in the Philippines that still runs to this day). The Streetboys became a hit in the country when they released their single “Boom Tiyaya.” The group was set apart from their rivals UMD, and the Maneuvers (Other popular male groups at that time) by using stunts and acrobatics as a part of their choreography. Notable members include: Vhong Navarro and Jhong Hilario who are both actors and popular variety show hosts of It’s Showtime up to this day. *Sexbomb - Bakit Papa* The SexBomb Girls is an all-female celebrity sing-and-dance group in the Philippines. From mere background dancers in a popular variety show, they evolved into multimedia stars, with successful careers in singing, acting, and dancing. SexBomb Girls is hailed as "The Best-Selling Philippine Female Group of All Time." Their first studio album, Unang Putok (First Explosion) included the hit song "Bakit Papa?" which is an iconic Filipino novelty song enjoyed by Filipinos of all ages to this day together with their “Spaghetti Song.” The MV you watched was taken from their 2002 movie named after their song “Bakit Papa?” Notable members include: Rochelle Pangilinan (Actress), Sugar Mercado (TV/Variety Show Host), Jopay Paguia (Actress), Aira Bermudez (Actress)

MISHY in 2019 seemed to hate Filipinos?. She tried to say FAITH ALVAREZ SANTIAGO who is full Filipino "must have Chinese or Japanese somewhere" cause she thinks Filipinos are suppose to be ugly not Korean looking like her!!! She is "original FILIPINO" no chinese OR any other blood! That makes no sense cause that little amount of blood would take away all asian features.

MISHY in 2019 made no SENSE cause if MNL48 grad Faith Alvarez Santiago had that little Japanese or Chinese blood she would not look ASIAN AT all if "they were colonized by Spanish" who are white/European. Filipinos look asian bc of "Original Filipinos" their own east ancestors not Chinese or Japanese at all!

In defense of Sexbombs' Bakit Papa', the “papa” in here does not literally mean [father] or [sugar daddy], it refers to the girl's boyfriend who has a strong body built and is good looking. Like how Koreans uses [oppa] to refer men not their older brother, some Filipina uses [papa] to refer a man who is a boyfriend material to them; especially tall, dark and handsome. Take for example Piolo Pascual, he's being called Papa P. Same goes for [mama]- I'm not going to explain further, just listen to one of D' Masculados' song. P.s. You all get so weirded out to Sexbomb's Bakit Papa but Viva Hot Babe's Bulaklak and Basketball were saying a lot about sex- I mentioned it since someone already said it.

The target audience of sexbomb dancers are the "masa" or the common public. With Filipino culture, it sells. But times have changed and we don't see those type of dance groups anymore yet the sexbomb dancers themselves are still known to many due to their awesome dance skills. They used to appear in the popular noontime variety show Eat Bulaga and oftentimes those sexbomb dancers would have a dance battle with their fellow dancers showcasing their skills.
@denniszenanywhere
@denniszenanywhere 3 года назад
It's not that the masa asked for it. These were force fed to an audience for ratings' sake. Daily noontime shows among TV networks were probably the most competitive time slot, so they had to bring in sexy dances into the picture. And of course, anything that unusual in a noontime show will rate.

Generally, I think we don't really pay attention to the lyrics. Although we knew the lyrics back then, we didn't think about it so much. hahaha We even danced to these songs at school. That's the reason Kpop songs are popular here too. We just focus on the music and not the lyrics lol.

Novelty songs tries to appeal to general mass by being catchy and simple enough for kids and also has subliminal (double-meaning) message for adults. Kinda like how cartoons are innocent enough for a child but has lots of adult humor to make the parents also chuckle as they watched with their kids. Those jokes will safely fly pass our heads and only learn them once we rewatch them as adult (in this case, re-listen to songs again in a new perspective).

One of the lead dancers of Sexbomb Dancers is the sister of Michael Pangilinan, Rochelle Pangilinan. These groups became popular in the mid-90's but they were known as dance groups and not for their music. Every noontime show back then had their own girl dance group. Streetboys, on the other hand, became popular as they were touted as the rival of another popular all-male dance group called UMD (Universal Motion Dancers).

@fbkintanar
@fbkintanar Год назад
I would consider these three groups as zeroth generation of Pinoy Pop, they share with "real" P-Pop singing and dancing but not much else. No rap, no identifiable roles for each idol, no idol training process, etc. But then Pinoy Pop is a term that defies any attempt to draw a boundary. I tend to think of it as a subgenre of OPM which emphasizes danceable R&B (although there are still a lot of ballads, especially from the solo artists). The idol groups have borrowed a star-making technology from K-Pop, but for the most part I think the musical influence is more from OPM. Of course K-Pop is full of influence from western genres and then they make them their own. But in P-Pop, they don't have to go to U.S. or foreign music to get this influence, the Philippines and OPM have had a strong tradition of R&B and dance hits, quite independent of any K-Pop models.

The melodies of the songs are close to our novelty songs but with a pop vibes that's why they were very popular that time even children liking them as they can be easily sung. We copied and danced the dance moves because we Filipinos like to challenge ourselves to dance popular difficult and controversial moves. We never took the message of the song much more the dance moves seriously because we just wanted to groove and make ourselves and everyone happy and get things lighter even it it seemingly doesn't make sense. We just want to be happy in everything and in every way we can.

I think Filipinos are less prudish about talking about sex publicly than many other Western or Westernized cultures. Don't get me wrong, I think many Filipino are conservative about sex when it comes to personal relations, but talking about it or having it in the media is not a concern. Or having little kids dancing to songs with sexy lyrics.

There should be an episode with Gloc9 songs alone.(Sirena, Magda, Dungaw w/ Translated subs) now that is react-worthy!

The song does not refers to sugar daddy. It refers to the boyfriends that leaves them for another girl.

Laban o Bawi is a game portion of Eat Bulaga and sex bomb dancers are the main dancers of that variety show. There are other songs of sex bomb girls not only Laban(fight) o Bawi(backout/retreat).

Yup, as a kid growing up in the Philippines, this was the reason why I didn't watch PH TV. I knew it already back then. If you wanna go down the rabbit hole, then this was the agenda to dumb down the public. Now, we're all watching this, all cringey and mind-blown that they actually allowed this on noontime shows for all to consume.

very uso din kasi during the 90s yung mga sexy films in ph that's why these types of songs with sexual innuendos became very popular. plus, it's obviously catchy, people would just dance with it rather than criticize. no social media as well to inform.

if you want songs that have double meaning, there are three songs I recommend. Kahit Gaano Kalaki by Alynna, Nilunok Kong Lahat by Selina Sevilla, and Oops... Teka Lang by Ara Mina

For me it's not, kasi ang tagalog words maraming meaning yan kaya nga wag mong bibigyan ng dalawang meaning ang mga tagalog words dahil pwede yang maging bastos kung binigyan mo
