The absolute joy of the 2600, in all it’s forms, is that it always feels like an exploration. No matter how long you’ve been playing with synths, which for me is 30 years, the complex interplay of the modules as you start to go deeper is always surprising, often confusing, but constantly interesting. The ability to run the filter output alongside the VCA output into the mixer is one thing that seems simple, but can add so much complexity to your sounds.

wow .. this is the best 2600 tutorial i have seen. unlike many other videos that just show one fancy patch after another, you actually explain the signal path and how each section works and affects the signal and the sound. well done, thanks! :)

So many great tips Ziv. I hadn't grasped that ring mods could work as a VCA until you did it with the Syntrx and there were some ace uses here. There's always things to learn with the 2600 and I got a dozen great tips here and I thought I knew the thing! Ha. Any comparisons between the Korg and the Behringer hardware versions? The Arturia software 2600 costs five times what I paid for the Behringer, and the Behringer was, adjusting from 1974 dollars, 5% of the far less featured original. Yes I have both the Behringer 2600s, love them both.

Thanks for this great video, some excellent tips. I will try them this weekend on my trusty 1973 2600, as well as the Arturia 2600. The Arp 2600 is a truly inspirational instrument; Korg and Behringer have both been marvellous in reviving it for a new generation of knob (and slider) twiddlers.

@SYNTHPUNK but that's not the same thing. A 2600 and a Matrixbrute and a Pro3 are totally different synths in so many ways, how to compare? I mean, a 2600 doesn't have presets or a mod matrix or effects (other than reverb). Compare a Hydrasynth to a Summit, Fantom to a Kronos, Hammond to a Viscount, Minimoog to a Poly D, that's a useful comparison. Not this. Just my opinion, not trying to argue...

As usual Loopop comes up with the most interesting ideas applicable to any modular system. I own a original 2600 and a TTSH. The TTSH is thinner but still nice. The original just clobbers the speakers. That preamp is one of the best distortion devices even if it is very simple. Amazing machine, stomps on any vst. We need more videos like this

A simple switch like on the 2600 is a very basic thing, but it allows SOoo many new possibilities. I found this out when i picked up a beautiful Instruo switch for my Eurorack setup. Once you start patching with the switch you’ll find out, being able to switch between two different states is way more useful than it would seem!

Ok, great further insight. I saved this 2600 vid for last because i knew it would be next level. i got the behringer on sale this last weekend and this vid makes me appreciate the LFO module which looks like it was moved from the original keyboard, and ways to create another, once that one is used. I am also thankful that the BARP has color coding and lights. i have eyestrain from looking at the black-on-black face of that korg for a half of an hour trying to see what you were doing. FWIW, the original keystep is decent for controlling the BARP. (PS, i made a ghetto patch cable splitter from a stereo RCA,F->1/8",M adapter and 2 single RCA,F->1/8",M mono adapters. evidently the ring and sleeve both touch the contact in the 3.5mm synth sockets)

Using the delay processor to implement portamento is neat but I want to note that the 2600M also implements portamento using MIDI. If you have a midi controller capable of assigning a knob to CC 5, that's your portamento time, and CC 65 is portamento on/off. With portamento enabled, the 2600M will ramp the keyboard control voltage from note-to-note at a rate corresponding to the portamento time values received from MIDI or USB. This approach requires less patching and leaves the lag processor free for other uses.

@@gregkrukemeier2003 It's cheaper because of the production capacity Behringer has. MW is a lot like GS in that it's very dogmatic. The B2600 sounds amazing and is really sturdy, the biggest disadvantage is how ugly it is. Most of the issues people have reported where the sound diverges from the original can be compensated for with calibration - seems to be primarily where B has shorted with the production of their 2600s, but that's not a difficult fix. Hi man, I love the sounds in duo mode... When you want to play two notes do you need to change the settings from Default to Original @20:30? Thanks!

I have an original Arp 2600, and the "snappy trig envelope" doesn't seem to work.

Are the sliders the same width as the full size sliders?

I'm sure you've been asked this a million times before, but I feel like that oscilloscope would be so useful to me when I play around with my machines. Which app/device are you using for your oscilloscope, and how to you patch it to perform this way? Thanks for another great video!

Hi, I use MOscilloscope and MAnalyzer by a company called Melda - they’re free with some limitations in the MFreeFXBundle. Occasionally I’ll use scopes by VCV
