So I ordered a Roland SH-4d yesterday. It looks like a great new synthesiser, but many are already talking about it’s lack of song mode. Well, guess what, you don’t really need one! These boxes are made to be played. If you want to create a song then you can easily record out the different parts into your DAW. The SH-4d will be available in about 4 weeks time, so while we wait let’s all have fun jamming out with the boxes we already have. The Electribe does have an amazing song mode, but like I said, it’s really not needed. Hope you enjoy my latest jam! :-)

I completely agree! I've never once used the song mode in my EMX, because there's so much to play! I wish someone would make an updated firmware for this incredible box with some QoL features like a mute-hold mode and knob pick-up modes. Otherwise, it still holds up!

The Electribe EMX-1 got me started with grooveboxes many years ago. It is amazing what you can do with so little sound controls. I've waited ages for something with the immediacy of the Electribe, along with the full spectrum of sound control. Ordered mine yesterday as well. But still, the Electribe has the edge in some cases, like 8-bar patterns and song mode.

I agree, the song mode on the emx-1 is awesome. I love it that you can record drum and synth parts as well as mutes and motion/automation over the top of your song.

Nice tune! Have you used the rytm mk1 by any chance? I'm considering buying one of these 2 and trying to figure out which one will be better/more fun. Clearly the rytm will be more feature packed being 10 years newer but these korgs seem really playable!

Thanks Harry. Honestly I’d go for a Syntakt over the Rytm MKI, but more fun and more comparable to the EMX-1

AWesome track!!! I was wondering if it is possible to take the song/individual parts and put them into fruity loops (DAW) on my PC in 2024??? Is that possible? Thank you!!!

Yes it would be possible. You’d just need an audio interface
