Does this Kronos have any upgrades in regards to processor power, and bootup time? Or does it still use the decade old chipset/processor, and slow harddrive?
Well, it's not that easy to be inspired when my 10-years old Yamaha PSR E223 sounds rather uninspiring for now.. Sure the keyboard has been accompanying my music journey for years but still, it is time to do some real upgrade! Hahah...
So they finally work. Is the filepath length for samples still 76 characters? They have gigabytes of HD soace and 76 characters to make filenames and filpath names!? Never try to make your own samples with these things. Libraries are also bound to the machine. The machine crashes, you have to buy EVERYTHING again. Korg is a company of scammers.
Wow y’all are really acting like this Kronos didn’t come out in 2011 wtf!!! I love it and have have one since the beginning, but dude it has been a decade and all you could do was put was change the color🤷♂️
@@marcuswilespage Even if they didn't replace the whole thing, a major firmware version with a new organ engine, or a second organ engine to do sounds the current one won't do.
You are Correct the Kronos is dated but, it was 10 yrs ahead of it's Time. Korg has continued to update this Workstation and has done a very Great Job! It is still the best Workstation to this day 2020, (9 Engines). Nothing is even Close!🎯 (Karma Kills,) Yamaha & Roland. Rolands V - Pianos are Formidable just as good. The Montage Sequencers has some deep editing features, the Fantom has 1100 dated sounds, the Montage sounds are very good (Modern) the both Boast only ( 2) Engines. Both cost more than the Kronos. The VST's are Formidable to all these workstations they are getting better, and better. Right now the Modeling, Samples has been the best it has ever been. When you are listen to your favorite what ever who sits around and says that was 24 bit 192k, that's Roland, Korg, Yamaha, Kurzweil. No one.... No one. I have them all because, I gives me options to keep pushing Greater! Yes there are cons and pros, how much better is better, who cares about which is better. (I) will settle for( it's As Good), because it continues to gives me Options. I love having Opitions, Great Music etc... comes from the Artist who are using these tools. The Workstations, VST's do nothing on their own. 💯🎯
I was in Keyboard Magazine Jan 2010 under Geek Out super studios with 75 synths i now have over 100+ thanks to my friend john who gave me his Kronos good thing i had 75 under my Belt i think it is the SpaceX of Keyboards. Go Korg Go Kronos!
Does this keyboard have great sounding saxophones, guitars, flutes, cellos, etc? Or is all just focused on piano-type playing? I am starting to compose with GarageBand and need my first work station/ PA...
@@thomasmueller7153 If you are just starting out with composing then I would say stick with Virtual Synths and get a cheaper MIDI controller. Kronos is really for live gigs, but it does have very powerful synths for studio.
@@stevereaver I need an instrument that has 72 keys, it‘s own speakers to listen to and an authentic piano sound recorded from grand pianos , because I will move the instrument to practice sessions with other musicians. Just a simple midi controller won‘t do for me. So it‘s like a cross between a digital piano and an arranger station. That‘s why I looked at the Kronos, PA700, PA 3X. What bothers me about the common arranger stations is that they heavily focused on electronic music, effects, sound manipulations, 100s of drum sets. I need something that‘s more focused on acoustic instruments , classical instruments. But that doesn’t seem to exist because classical composers seem to always work with actual orchestras. So I’m stuck with super high-tech arranger stations of who’s buttons and functions I will only use 10%. Which brings me back to my original question : „ how are the acoustic instrument samples in this instrument in this video?“ could I work as a classical composer with this thing?
Mannnn....because of you i bought my beautiful Kronos LS.i mean, i knew before this video that kronos has 9 engine but i didn't knew how capable is.i was between montage 8 and kronos...but after this beautiful tutorial i knew that i have to buy the Kronos.once again thank you from the bottom of my heart.i really aprecciate youre work...peace😀!!!
4 years later and they release the ultra limited edition lol. I swear this is the 7th edition Korg released of this old Kronos. Korg really doesn't want to make a successor
ItsThatJahncke - I know I’m def getting the Kronos 3 in 10 years 😩- I currently own the Nord Stage 3 -88, Nord Stage 3 Compact, Montage 7 (White), and the Roland Fantom 7.
I fear with all the VSTs out there now and MIDI keyboards, Korg making another flagship keyboard is out the window. As much as I love the Kronos, it's OLD and dated! It's not even 64 bit!!! The innards are parts from 2008, and the OS looks like something from 1982. I really hope one day Korg recognizes there will ALWAYS be a market for people who don't want to always rely on VSTs. Yes, they are great for studio work, but I really don't feel like getting another whole setup for use of VSTs while playing gigs. Besides, I wouldn't trust I wouldn't have latency issues if playing with VSTs live. KORG, PLEASE CREATE A TRUE KRONOS SUCCESSOR!!!!!!
Put your VST’s on an SSD and it may work better for you. My desktop has my VST’s on a platter hard drive (WD Black 7200rpm) and they stutter sometimes. My laptop, not as powerful as my desktop, has the VST’s on solid state drives and they play without a hitch.
@@killerdoxen Mine are on a regular hard drive. However, I have since dialed it in, and I use the Focusrite drivers instead of ASIO4ALL and no more stutter. :-)
It's the workflow that counts for me ... It has its huge advantages, it's light years ahead of working with computers (composing style...), if you know how to play an instrument of course and you don't need 120 tracks ... I would lost my idea a 1000 times if I was working with computer software ... Sometimes seconds matter ... And an overall feel, inspirational element ... You can't always look for a daily news and make a great song on a same device ... And you can do the rest sterile work on computer later ...
It's about workflow and creating ideas fast ... You can give a computer to a monkey and nothing happens. Too much options and rigid workflow kills the great idea in the start. That's a computer. Good for everthing, not so good for a specific task. I use Kronos for the core of the song, idea and complex mixing that would make your life a living hell if you do it on computer (it would crash probably ... 100%.). Than when it's time "to go slow" I use computer's strong points - lots of options, mastering, sampling etc. Think of Kronos like a navy seal unit, and computer like an army.
I just got one in July from Sweetwater. It's a very, very sweet machine. Plus it gets me away from the computer which is a huge plus for me. When I sequence, I use my ears more instead of my eyes. I also use external controllers, iOS devices, etc. to add to its capabilities. This board is bangin' - sounds great.
OMFG donate that limited edition to me. I'll take the 61 key version. It will look nice next to my Trinity and Triton. Korgs look better in silver. Hardware workstations are my preference.
Guess you better forget it, Korg is falling way behind in keeping up with costumer support. Karma Kronos software is not supported in Win 10 2004 update, dev is not even planning to upgrade... Korg hasn't bothered to release an x64 version of Kronos editor software for windows, so you get a literally 1x1 inch dimension window in windows 10... Kronos is losing connectability fast, good as an expensive stand-alone keyboard, get your ass together and do something Korg developers !
The video starts with a simple overview, and then becomes better and better and totally awesome as you watch further ! You will see why Sweetwater chose Mr. Jacob Dupre for this presentation. X🤘🏻X
Same instrument for several years, just a paint job and throw in the italian grand. disappointing. now new processors, no new OS, no expanded ram, etc. just the same kronos 2 with a new colour scheme. shame really, also the price just for the paint job.
@@dhpstudios2009 My question to you is this... If you're not bothered by the fact that Korg can't come out with something new that genuinely improves upon the current kronos, then how would you justify a recent release with a new paint job, no specification change, etc for say £3700? The issue here is the fact that All korg is doing with the kronos 2 since it's release is paint changes and adding a KAPro library or two, that's all. No RAM upgrades, no 64 bit OS, nothing.
Not everything requires replacement every couple of years. Yes, the Kronos could use a UI update but it still has more power than either the Montage or Fantom.
That’s not true. The screens they use are simple but what’s even simpler is Nords screens and instead of giving you direct access to everything you have to use buttons and knobs. The technology they use is still manageable and useable in any setting. You can even hook up other software to use more sounds with Omnisphere and enhance what it already has even more.
I m a musician on worship team service. I like korg keyboard products ,but since kronos model went out for about 10years. It seem like sound engines are the same and never change as much. It is bored . I will stick with old model and pick up with yamaha modx. I think it is worth for every penny.
I had the first edition kronos 88 key back in 2012. Had to sell because of financial issues. Lord I miss this beast! Again we soon will meet! Love you Korg!
Interesting. The Titanium used to be exclusively 88-keys. Thought we'd seen that last of the Kronos color schemes with the red one but alas Kronos is still king.
my beef with the color is you cant see the text when the light gets a bit funky or a bad angle, black or white. kromeEX is the same color silver with white lettering, what were they thinking. I seriously am going to have to print the text on clear sticky paper with the laser printer to fix that. edit: The bodies should either be black or white with opposite color text is what i am saying here lol. dealing with lighting is the real game. If I was king of korg, i would have a glowing case behind bold black letters. It would just be white with black letters in the sun, but once night falls it lights up
I was about to buy the Yamaha Montage 8 until I saw this video. This keyboard is ten times better (sounds, user friendliness, looks, etc.) THANKS DUDE!
its a shame korg kronos has the worst piano(not warm but electronic sounding) in the world of keyboards. so many clanky notes especially around middle C and dead notes you cant even accent in the upper range
Whenever you're put off by lack of inspiration and ask yourself why the heck am I not selling the Kronos, watch this demo and you'll change your mind .
It's a working musician's main board, or a main studio board. Piano is the most important and probably the most difficult sound to get right. A digital piano will ONLY do one thing well. The Kronos does everything very well. Go ask someone who owns one of these if they would play this board if they couldn't get dozens of excellent piano sounds out of it? It's NOT just a synth. It's a keyboard. It's a lot of things. That's what the word "workstation" means. one board to rule them all. Many people who say they are "Synth" players are really not best served by this workstation. They would be best served by buying a thing that does only what they want, and doesn't try to do everything.
thank you Mr.Postma a lot! I also wonder why workstation exist at this moment. Almost all proffetional Desk top musician creat a song with pc(sometimes Mac) Do They have enough time to understand both daw software and complicated workstation usage. Short phrase they created instantly should be recorded as soon as possible. It’s very useful to memorize it with workstation’s recording capacity. But that’s all. For example with Yamaga Montages only CFX piano sound is played. Maybe Nobody plays. Because it seemed ridiculous.
@@loveliesbleeding It's a different way of working. I prefer it for getting ideas going. Helps me use my ears more eyes less. It really makes a difference. Sometimes getting away from the computer can be a good thing.
Lordtunes World exactly. Stage 3 is old news. When they release their new stage, he could be their first call. Looking at their product cycle it’s most likely a stage 3 EX.
Korg could really innovate by licensing the OTTO efx engine from Ensoniq, which had the most amazing effects algs ever (I've never heard 2+ minute 'infinite' reverbs elsewhere). It's only available in aging ASR-10 or DP/2 or DP/4 units, never heard anything like it since. Woud be a shame if no one ever remodelled it in modern hardware.
Hey Jacob! I was wondering if you can help me....first of all, I LOVE that Kronos board! I'm looking for a keyboard that has, in addition to a great piano sound and all the other usuals, I'm looking for a really good sounding acoustic guitar and electric guitar sound. My leading candidate is the Yamaha MM6 (on eBay they are just now within the last couple months, dipping below the $350, including S&H, price). Oh, I also have to mention that I'm on Disability so I really have to watch what I spend as this will be a MAJOR purchase for me. It's not alot to most people but $300 is most def the max that I can spend on a board. I know, my options are limited to say the least. But, if you have any recommendations I would really appreciate it. If you have anyone else that can weigh in, please feel free to ask them or for them to contact me. And it goes without saying, if anyone reading this knows of a keyboard with an excellent acoustic and electric guitar sound(s), please comment here. Thank you and keep up with the beautiful board vids, as well as all the other videos on instruments! Great content!
Yamaha Motif, MOX, MOXF and MX all have great piano sounds but even a 49 key is more than $300. Maybe you should try looking for some used versions of these keyboards. Maybe you will find one that's around $300.
I recommend either saving up to get to the 900 or 600 dollar level and/or buying a used Korg Triton or Korg Karma on E-bay. To get great sounds including realistic guitar and string sounds as well as a good piano is the Yamaha PSR-E373. These are not pro-level instruments but they have the sophisticated sounds as well as a good workstation/arranger functionality found on some of the higher end models such as the Yamaha PSR-SX700 . I personally find low end Casio keyboard sounds to be substandard but they provide a basic functionality at a low price. To have that great guitar sound and expressive function with the modular wheel the PSR-E373 are definitely the best value in a new keyboard.
Is it then possible to build your own tracks to record a song more complex than just 16 tracks inicially available on this CRONOS...??? If so, I suppose that you in that case, are allowed to "integer" those adicional tracks to the basic 16 ones that this unit got from the beginning in some mixing technique... Am I right...??? Thanks in advance for the answer... (Real good job...!)
No offense to the player, but with all the features to go through, why do we have to listen to them play so much instead of demonstrating the features? Most of these videos do this. I got it. YOU can play. I want to go through the features.
The flutes and brass sounds are no better than the 1995 Trinity I use to own and love. With all those multi gigabytes of memory, one would expect much better acoustic programs especially considering that the Trinity did the same using only 24 megabytes of pcm memory.
There are aspects of the piano that make it suitable for learning easily. The complexity that we hear from advanced and pro players reflects the simplicity of the instrument as they can play multiple parts simultaneously. I started at 12 and have been playing for 40 years at an intermediate level. I strongly recommend starting a piano course with a teacher or with one youtube instructor specializing in starter lessons. I learned by playing songs in beginner music books. By becoming familiar with the names of the white keys and how to form the common chords (3 notes or 4) such as C major D major F major G major and A minor ( which is just the white keys of A , C and E) you can play many songs and familiar melodies.
Unless you are into your 80s like a person in my class in Osaka, I severely doubt its too late. A small hint for you - some people in the west were paid a lot of money a fairly long time ago to run your nations into the ground on the behalf of a select few. This was done in many ways, one of which is in the small details of what can and can't be accomplished. It is within the realm of an adult to go from beginner, to professional in Piano. Its harder in places, easier in others. You need to stop listening to silly remarks - and just 'do', You'll be surprised what can be accomplished. People are not as limited by age as you suppose. But the west should certainly clean up its diet, its politics and its lifestyle. All things that have been intentionally ruined in many places. Get to it.
@@isaacfanai2006 I'm fortunate to have the NS 3 Compact...Korg Kronos LS 88 & Korg Grand 88...Each have their place...but I prefer the NS3 Compact Key Bed.
Roger Guttromson I needed the layering ability and sound design of the Kronos. But my ideal rig would be a NS3 on the bottom and a Kronos 61 as my top board
IK&S Nice. For me personally I had a Montage 8 sound designing is my thing but not too deep like all these FM Synthesis and stuff so I felt like it was a waste of use so why not trade it for someone to use it and take care of it better than I do. Went with a Nord Stage 3 cause it’s straight forward no menu diving and can make more money gigging and travelling cause of the weight and quality. I have a Roland Jupiter-X for VA sound design since it’s versatility. Leads and Brass but I mostly use it for leads. Man everybody has their strengths and weaknesses which is what makes the music baby!!!
The thing is that even with the best VSTs on the market you can't do everything what you can do in this beast all in one place. They nearest thing I've seen to this is Omnisphere... And it still lacks drum, karma and Strings engine.
