How to connect your Korg Kronos 2 to a MacBook Pro 2016. This is the MacBook Pro with the USB Type C connections. This tutorial runs through the process describing how to connect the Korg with your Mac and how to configure Logic Pro x to record from the Korg

after following the directions and those where you said it's not gonna record sound only midi, i had to specifically go to Logic Pro - Track - Create New Tracks - check "USE EXTERNAL INSTRUMENT PLUG IN" select audio input 1, then click create, then it creates the new track with audio input as Device: Kronos, and then it will record the midi and the sounds from the kronos into the apple logic. Yay! Thanks for your help Piano Keys!

Great guide, very simple, and easy to follow, very helpful for somebody like me who is new to the Kronos. Some people might call it an idiots guide, but I like simple, because you can always make a better idiot.

That was interesting ,I have hooked up my Mac mini M1 to my Kronos 88LS !a bit different ,usb lead only ! from Kronos to input on Mac mini ,notice use Kronos ? Yes ! Done ,it will be selected in audio on Logic

Excellent tutorial. I was fine up until 5:37 ( use Cubase Essential 5 - I know it is old but does all I need and worked fine with my Fantom G8 ) I would be really grateful if you could give any instructions for Cubase users. Many thanks in advance.

Thx for this. Can i send Audio direct to Logic like this so Not as midi but as wav? I normally use the record Option directly in Kronos and Not in Logic, but to Switch the usb sticks all the time is annoying.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! One question - would I be able to use the Kronos to play out a sound provided by Logic? Also, if I do everything you've done in this tutorial, am I recording the Kronos sounds onto Logic? Because that would be amazing lol. I haven't tried anything yet (I still need to get the adapter), but I'm just curious.

Cool, what about assigning different patches to midi channels, can you do that from logic itself? For example if a want a bass sound on midi channel 2, how can I browse for that witching logic. I used to do that in pro tools with a korg n364, a patch list would come out and I was able to assign sounds.... I don't see that on logic.

I do have a problem I found the other day ,sometimes my Kronos sound is late ( delay before sounding what I have played ?) any ideas ?

How about connecting to PT's? I easily connect via audio, but USB "with syncing" is another thing. I would want to keep the playback engine to Apollo Thunderbolt, I guess, as I lose my monitoring audio if I use the Kronos in the playback engine. Also get an error 'playback engine cannot play back 44.1) ?? Any good step by step setting up USB to MBP using PT11 would be great! Mainly doing this to get syncing capability and save on inputs on Apollo.

At the end of the video before the piano part starts, you mention the ability to choose up to 16 channels. Does that mean all of 16 channels can be added into that?

Hi Piano Keys, thanks for this. I'm having some problems setting this up. 1) I can't hear any sound with just the external midi track - it seems you can do this fine. 2) When I use open an Audio track, I can hear the Kronos, but the Global setting has to have the "local control" on. If it is off, I can't hear anything. 3) I can't link the Audio track to the External Midi track - so I can't record midi data. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong - I can send you some photos. Any help would be beneficial.

I followed your instructions to a T, but when I record anything it will play back on my Kronos but not on my Macbook even though I have selected my output to Built In. After I disconnect my Kronos and Macbook, all the MIDI disappears. What am I doing wrong? Thank you so much!

Hi Jake ! The reason for this is that you have created a recording of the MIDI notes only in logic via an external instrument, so Logic will always look for the external instrument to play those notes. You have 3 options here: 1) Bounce the recorded MIDI track down as audio onto a new audio track 2) Follow my video instructions but do not setup a new external instrument, instead setup an audio track, then set the source of that audio track to the Kronos. Arm that track and hit record, then Logic will record only the audio from the Kronos, and not the midi 3) Follow all my instructions, and then create a new audio track afterwards. Arm BOTH tracks then hit record. You will then record audio and midi at the same time I'll be uploading tutorials on all the above soon :-) Let me know how you get on !

Let me get this straight! you mean to tell me that when I set up everything the way you have instructed, I will be able to hear and record sounds from my Kronos X without any audio cables? Meaning all sounds goining through my USB??

Hi Great tutorial ....spent hours now trying to sort this out!! (Logic Pro X 10.48) everthing is as it should be Kronos there outs etc.. til I select... new file ...external MIDI ...Kronos in 'Midi destination' ( your tutorial shows 'output' ?) however click 'create' and kronos shows and appears to have input but cannot hear anything ..Help!!!! any pionters would be greatly appreciated....whats this external instrument plug in, should that not be ticked?...

I'm curious....Do you have any problems at all with audio glitches (Buffer problems) when streaming VST instruments over an extended period of time via USB audio at lower latency. Iv had no end of trouble using Kronos 2 with Mac book 2015 but this is entirely due to the Mac OS X Sierra Core Audio Driver. My problems have come to the fore trying to use Mainstage with my Kronos and was totally unusable for live playing. Changing to MOTU interface solved all the glitching. Thanks!

Hi ! Mine has not missed a beat when using Logic's inbuilt instruments - I am using a 2016 MacBook Pro with SSD and plenty of RAM. However, when I record an audio track via USB from my Kronos the level is low, and I do get some glitches with it, but I am still experimenting with this to figure out the best settings - for example, I noticed that when I had more than one device plugged into the USB adapter, I had more glitches. For now, I am getting the best result (high quality, stereo, no glitches) by bouncing my Kronos audio directly on the Kronos and then importing that as an audio track directly into Logic.

I have a 2016 Macbook pro and usb a-c cable. audio works but midi does not. I tried downloading latest kronos midi drivers but still doesn't work. Any tips ?

I’m having the same issue, I’ve just checked for updated drivers and korg have a notice up with regards to high Sierra compatibility issues. It’s really driving me mad trying to figure it all out. I have followed this video and the Kronos manual to the letter and still no midi, like you audio is working fine.

Hi, what fails to install? If you are referring to the Kronos MIDI Driver software, you don't need this with the latest Mac OS versions. The USB drivers should work without the special KORG software. I did this today and it works ok. If you previously installed an old KORG USB Driver, you need to uninstall it first. Go to the KORG web site for the uninstall app.
