I advise a look at Loopop's review, he goes into quite a bit of depth as to the various functions. The Modwave is a super powerful synth to say the least.

Would be nice if they gave players an option for a larger keyboard though.

@@EverettDudgeon138 I think it will come later. The wavestate SE has already been announced and I expect the opsix SE and modwave SE to follow.

Give me a metal-cased module any day (ie. the sweet Minilogue xDM) over these cheap-feeling plasticy plastic things with uselessly short keyboards. If the Modwave didn't allow import of tables, I would've bought the Argon module. The Modwave sounds amazing. Period. But the look and feel has more in common with a $300.00 entry level toy. Lets be real, this instrument wouldn't last 10 minutes on the road with most crews.

With the shortage I wouldn't expect to see it. You'll see for sure in a month or less but with the way things are going -- they will likely need to put production elsewhere. There's simply too much you can do with the Native software and a far better keybed/controller than they will offer. A common preference seems to be using the PolyAT 49+ Keybeds. Such a the hydrasynth range (and likely Osmose) to get a better octave and control quality. Yes people could reach for a 61 key of all of these --- but it would be a huge waste of parts and space (for the consumer). Either make a 3 in 1 unit, or let people stick to VST Native and a premium quality keybed would be my recommendation. Korg skimp too much on aftertouch for price point.

Modwave

It seems like a tradeoff … the modwave lets you stack the wavetable timbres with the sample library, so you can get some different colors that way. And the Kaos Physics features let you “animate” notes in a distinctive way, if you want to get into that. The wavestate only has the sample-based sounds, but you get more layers of them, and the sequencer on that synth lets you set up all kinds of motifs and movements from one sample to another … the modwave can do part of that but not all.

unfortunately seems like the synth industry is absolutely built upon selling to hobbyists and beginners who are after quick wins... i assume most professional studio environments dont really bother with synth hardware anymore. That would of been the type of market interested in modules/racks ect. theres just not much money to be made there anymore maybe

You make some valid points. However, people are giving Korg a hard time IMO. The Prologue was criticized for being expensive and lacking mod flexibility, while in reality it's a a new take on the classic analog poly synth, with beautiful hardware for a fraction of the price of comparable poly synths from the seventies. On the other hand, their offerings with mostly digital internals and mini keys are available for a few hundred bucks. It seems to me people are really hard to please these days. Contrary to Roland, who have not released anything compelling in decades and deserve the scorn, I think that Korg still makes interesting products, as perfect as flawed as anything from the past.

@@stevenagy88 I see what you mean, the Prologue was ambitious for sure. I like the IDEA of the op-six, the wavestate, the modwave, all interesting concepts - I just wish they put a little more effort into the execution and build quality. Instead of packing all that into a small frame they could have made it a LITTLE bigger? Proper keys? Metal? Of course it won't be $800 anymore but then you have a product that will actually stand the test of time. And again, something to differentiate it from the wavestate. The microfreak was able to have a sem filter inside it for $350! Just doesn't make sense to me.

@@kiko1935 Microfreak only has one filter, these would need seperate filters for every voice.

@@kiko1935 I don’t know if you are already aware so excuse me if so, but Korg are releasing a premium version of the Wavestate called the Wavestate SE. This will feature a solid metal build, a professional key bed and various other upgrades. I assume if this sells well, the Modwave and Opsix versions will follow.
