I missed the EC5 connector on the Korg Pa5X. You presented us with a very good solution. Thank you very much for the important, informative description video. I think it makes playing the keyboard easier and more comfortable in connection with the food switch Greetings from Austria
Great job explaining everything, say I was not able to download or print the pdf document please check or post it again, that would awesome thanx a lot for your time.
Thanks so much. Extremely useful, as I have the PA4X and this Behringer controller, but never used them together, because I use the original Korg pedal to switch and a Yamaha pedal for volume control and of course a sustain pedal! 💪🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
Beautifully made and a fantastically useful video However I've always wondered if somebody would make a tutorial about the settings in the midi section to connect a breath controller such as the Yamaha breath controller
Thanks for this helpful guide, Tony. With 10 banks of 10 functions there are far more available than I’ll ever need on the Pa4X, so can I assign say banks 1-5 to that and banks 6-10 to another instrument such as the Nautilus?
Great tutorial. However, I have one question. Is this footswitch compatible with Roland BK 3? And can I program it to change sounds while playing a song, especially when both hands are busy?
@dirk Thank you for the very good video. Everything worked for me. There was only one thing I couldn't do. Setting the pedal as master volume. It simply has no effect. Other functions on the pedal work. Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong? Thank you
Thank you for explaining. Programming this Behringer is complicated. There is a lot to do per function you like to program. When English is not your own language it’s harder to understand. I don’t understand why programming the first button The FCB1010 stays on and when programming pedal a the FCB1010 has to be off and switched on + holding down pressed. Hope you can explain that difference.
Thank you so much for this video! You simplified this "hook up" magnificently. I have switches 1,2,3,4 set for break, fill 4, fill 3, fill 2, and switches 6,7,8,9 set for variation 4, 3, 2, 1. I followed your instructions to the letter and also have pedal B set for volume control on the 5X. Now, if I may "pick your brain" again, as a live player it is important to have a vocalizer off/on, on a switch, and sustain on a switch. I still have switches 5 & 10 available. Is there a way to do that? My old Solton/Ketron SD1 (21 years old) could do this with its foot switches (AWESOME), so you would think this $5K Korg could. Help, please!! It seems to me the 5X took a lot of its information from the 3X (which I've used for years) and basically upgraded some of the sounds and downgraded it by losing the EC5-foot switches. Also, intro/endings have basically always been terrible for live play and the 5X is no exception. Again, Korg "borrowed" a lot from the 3X.
Hi everybody! It seems, that the author of this video does not answer to the questions, - may be to busy. I will try to help to configure the upper footswitches. Yesterday I received my FCB1010, watched this video and had the same problem with the upper switches. It is something about the way we must think about the device. You know about the concept of the banks. Yes, you have ten of them. You have 10 switches in every bank. They are called presets. Think about every preset as a complete setting for your keyboard or any devices you have connected to the FCB1010. You may have more than one device connected in your MIDI-chain. Every preset (e.g. switch) may send 5 programm change messages to your devices. It can also send 2 control messages and a MIDI-note. Even the two pedals are part of each preset. When You start to program the behaviour of a switch you should imagine, which commands You want to send. All above may be sent simultaniously (logically the are in a chain). The first step in programming is to choose your footswitch. Next you decide which function (choose one or more) should be active: 1 Program Change1 2 Program Change2 3 Program Change3 4 Program Change4 5 Program Change5 6 Control Change1 7 Control Change2 8 Expression Pedal A 9 Expression Pedal B 10/0 Note You may also decide to manipulate the two swtches on the back side of the FCB1010 In the next step you give the arguments for all choosen functions. In the last step you store everything and will hopefully be happy. Do You have the original manual? See the PRESET-Programming in detail, - do not look at the fast lane! In detail: 1. press the footswitch to program 2. press DOWN for nearly 3 seconds until the leftmost green led will light up. 3. You may decide to do something with the switches on the backside. Press footswitch 1 or 2 to make them active in this preset 4. press up/enter 5. now you may see some red leds light up in the footswitches. These are the choosen functions 1 to 10 as described above. With a long press (1.5sec) you can switch them on or off. Light ON means function active. 6. short press Your footswitch to programm (see point 1.) It will flash. 7. press up/enter 8. for program change give the number you want. Press up/enter. 9. - X. give all desired information for program changes 1-5, control 1-2 and so on, as many as functions you chose. Every time followed by up/enter. Long press DOWN to end the programming session. My advise: Easy programming with Ed Dixon's FCB1010 Midi editor. This helped me to understand the logic behind the FCB1010 too. I hope, this will help you.
I made one mistake here. Step 6: You have to press the button for the desired function (it will flash), - not for the footswitch you want to programm. Step 7: Now you press up Step 8: type in the data for this function. Step 9: -> for next function, if you choose more than one, go to step 6. Step X: Long press DOWS to end programming session. Sorry for my mistake!
Hello. Thanks for the explanation. For some reason. I can only the the 5 switches to work. Do you know why this may be? Could it be to do with the firmware?
As always, Tony, nice video but this is not a true alternative to the EC5 for Korg PA5x - some functions that can be assigned to the single switch pedals (or EC5 in the past) cannot be programmed in a MIDI pedal (e.g. VAR-UP and VAR-DOWN ....and more) - would love to know if this can be done via a MIDI pedal like my Behringer FCB1010 - Korg have not provided its customers with sufficient MIDI Implementation data for over 20 years....
I used your instructions to program my foot pedals. For sone reason, I wasn’t able to program the upper buttons 6-10 using your instructions. Any pointers? Thank you!!!!
The thing I don't understand is that I can't program switches 6 to 10 like I can for only program 1 through 5 and another thing is that you have to press on a switch to get expression? shouldn't you be able to use expression all the time and not assign to a switch? and then control keyboard variations and other things with switches?
Tthank You for the video Using Korg pa5x using a Behringer FCB1010 pedal, cannot get the the epression pedals to work. Using midi 02, volume=07, pedal A Expression=11, pedal B I setup the expression pedals but not communicating, Any ideas? All 10 pedals in banks work, just cannot get the pedal A and pedal B to transmit. Anyone know what could be the issue?
Hello. I can only get the 5 pedals in banks to work. Do you think this may be to do with its firmware? Are you able to tell me which firmware your pedal is on?
Very bad from Korg. This is a nightmare and to much complicated and boring. The EC5 was easy to set even a child could do it. I do not like this one. And also is very expensive too! Also you cannot put another synth to be controlled if you put this switch pedal into midi in.
